How Can the Czech National Bank Eliminate the Zero Lower Bound on Interest Rates? A Case Study
Katinová, Alexandra ; Havránek, Tomáš (advisor) ; Kolcunová, Dominika (referee)
The thesis provides case study research on the feasibility of the negative in- terest rate policy in the context of the Czech Republic. No major obstacles opposing the policy itself were found in the bases of the Czech legal system, however, a list of acts explicitly affected by the value of policy rates needs to be adjusted to prevent misinterpretations. Moreover, it was identified that tax prepayments held by the Tax Authority and free reserves kept at the Czech National Bank at zero interest rate create room for escaping from the policy. Additionally, debt repayments in cash and interest-free accounts of government and public institutions administrated by the Czech National Bank could lead to undesirable advantages. A complementary VAR model analysis of the interest rate transmission under negative policy rates was performed to evaluate quan- titatively the experience from European countries, however, short data series available provided merely indicative results.

Road to Camp David and beyond: Ripeness and Third-party Mediation of the Israeli-Egyptian Conflict
Nemčovská, Ľubomíra ; Kalhousová, Irena (advisor) ; Soukup, Jaromír (referee)
This thesis analyses the conflict resolution process between Israel and Egypt and provides a new angle for explaining the signing of the first Arab-Israeli peace treaty. Author uses a case study research method that facilitates an in-depth analysis of the topic and answers to three selected research questions: Why did long-lasting hostile countries engage in the negotiations to resolve their conflict?, How did Jimmy Carter mediate the Camp David Summit? and What persuaded Israel and Egypt to finalize the peace treaty?. The thesis is divided into two main analytical parts, according to the theoretical model used for its examination of the research questions. The first part makes use of William I. Zartman's theory of ripeness and its concept of a "mutually hurting stalemate" to explain why two opposing parties might become gradually open towards finding a "way out" from their protracted conflict. By analysing these conditions to reach a "ripe moment", the third-party may produce substantial proposals to resolve their dispute. The second part of this thesis focuses on the mediation process of the U.S. President Jimmy Carter between September 1978 and March 1979. The umbrella theory of third-party mediation is employed to elucidate the mediation strategies, potential biases and leverage of Jimmy...
Branding The Artist: The Case of Jeff Koons
Legáthová, Lucia ; Ježková, Tereza (advisor) ; Katz, Philip (referee)
The general objective of this thesis is to develop the idea of an artist as a brand through the lens of contemporary theories on the relationships between branding and art. Over the last years, there has been a noticeable shift in the global art market, and art has become a subject to market forces and product life cycles, just like brands. This thesis attempts to provide new insights into the practice of branding within the art world, drawing from the case of Jeff Koons. The first part of the thesis offers a theoretical framework which will develop the understanding of art within the context of brand management. Building on the research outputs, the notion of the artist as a brand manager is proposed, placing the artists in the middle of the branding processes as creators of their own brands through the utilization of various marketing activities. The second part of the thesis analyzes the artistic career of Jeff Koons within a branding perspective. The case analysis provides the reader with a detailed description of the artist's career, public image and use of four selected branding practices. With the aim to expand the theoretical knowledge of branding within the art world, contribute to its generalizability and stimulate further research in this matter, this thesis seeks to answer the questions...
