An Impact of Security Situation on the Position of Israeli Right
Seznam literatury: Alexander, Y. (2021). Russian-Israeli Relations after the Dissolution of the Soviet Union
Pavlíková, Klára ; Kalhousová, Irena (advisor) ; Plíštilová, Tereza (referee)
The thesis Russian-Israeli Relations after the Dissolution of the Soviet Union looks at the relations of these countries in the period from the end of 1991 to 2022 from the perspective of the neorealist balance of power theory. The main aim of the thesis is to answer the question of how the geopolitical interests of the two countries are inscribed in their diplomatic relations. At first glance, some diplomatic interactions between Moscow and Tel Aviv may give the impression of very warm relations. However, the two countries are fundamentally at odds over their interests in the Middle East. Russia's interests, as could be deduced from the balance of power theory, derive from its efforts to counterbalance the USA. Israel's interest is to survive surrounded by enemies, which it seeks to achieve through its alliance with the USA. The thesis is based on two case studies: Iran and Syria. I analyze both geopolitical interests and diplomatic relations using qualitative and quantitative research methods. In the case of geopolitical interests, I draw on official government documents, military doctrines, statements by top politicians, the formation of military-strategic alliances, energy cooperation, and Russian, Israeli, and U.S. votes at the United Nations in the cases of Iran and Syria. I analyze...
Hybrid war concept in the context of Israeli state activities
Wildová, Tereza ; Horák, Slavomír (advisor) ; Kalhousová, Irena (referee)
The bachelor's thesis focuses on Israel's involvement in the Syrian Arab Republic in the context of the concept of hybrid warfare. The text of the thesis is divided into three parts. The first part outlines the theoretical grasp of the concept of hybrid warfare, and how the concept is treated, scholarly discussion about the concept, and which tools and actors are considered relevant. The second part traces the Israeli engagement in Syria itself, in terms of the various methods employed, as well as the motives and interrelationships, and the legislative anchoring of Israeli activities. The third part attempts to answer the research question : "Why does Israel resort to the use of hybrid warfare against the Syrian Arab Republic and what tools does it use to do so?" with the following sub-questions "To what extent is this use offensive or defensive?", "What does Israel use to justify its actions in Syria in the context of international law?". Using theoretical analysis and a single case study as methods to develop the thesis, it was found that Israel resorts to its actions for several reasons, the main one being the issue of its security. Israel fears the deeper involvement of Iran and its allies and seeks to maintain its regional hegemony. Israel's actions in Syria can be seen as both offensive and...
Transformation of Jewish identity in post-war Czech and Luxembourg generations
Bronec, Jakub ; Koura, Petr (advisor) ; Brüll, Christoph (referee) ; Kalhousová, Irena (referee)
The aim of the thesis is to analyze and compare the development and changes of Jewish identity and Jewishness in post-war Jewish generations in the years 1945-1990 born or living in the Czech lands (Czech, Moravia, Silesia) and Luxembourg. The research focuses only on the territory of the Czech lands (Czech Republic) and Luxembourg; it does not include the current Slovak territory. The author's intention is to compare the development of Judaism and Jewish identity between members of the second and third post-war Jewish generations who were influenced by two different political systems - the Western Liberal Democracy and the Eastern Communist regime. The work aims to find similarities and differences in predetermined aspects that directly and indirectly have influenced the life of both Jewish communities in Luxembourg and the current Czech Republic. Individual aspects and factors were determined as follows: the path to Judaism and its formation in two different political regimes; attitude towards the state of Israel; antisemitism. The work seeks to find different comparative parameters for intergenerational analysis of different attitudes towards Israel, influence of antisemitism on post-war Jewish generations and understand the processes involved in the formation and transmission of Czech and...
Arab Political Representation in Israel: Goals and Obstacles
Vlčková, Lýdie ; Kalhousová, Irena (advisor) ; Plechanovová, Běla (referee)
This bachelor's thesis puts into context the current development of Israeli Arab political representation. It builds upon the existing situation in Israel, where Arabs and Jews do not enjoy equal positions on many levels. The thesis then poses the question, what are the goals the Arab representation seeks to achieve, and what are the obstacles it faces in the Israeli political system. The thesis follows the historical development of Arabs' position in Israel and then continues by examining the goals and behavior of four Israeli Arab parties present in the Knesset. By presenting each party separately, the thesis shows their different positions toward the State of Israel and the strategies they use to advance their goals, which are then categorized as national and civic. The thesis then observes the existing or potential challenges the parties face, identified as legal obstacles, as presented in reports of Adalah or Amnesty International, and delegitimization. The thesis then evaluates their effect on achieving the parties' goals. The limits of Arab political representation are further highlighted in two case studies dedicated to one of its greatest potential obstacles on the one hand and one of its most important achievements on the other. As a result, the goals on the national level were identified...
Jewish Identity of Czechoslovak Jews and Its Influence on Motivation to Join the Hagana Brigade
Piskač, Jan ; Kalhousová, Irena (advisor) ; Kocian, Jiří (referee)
The present bachelor thesis deals with the relationship between the Jewish identity of Czechoslovak Jews and their motivation for joining the Haganah volunteer brigade. The thesis focuses on the period before and after World War II, tracing the development of Jewish identity and the relationship of the Jewish population of that time to the Czechoslovak state. The thesis aims to find out the motivation of Jews to join the Haganah military unit, which was to help the nascent state in its struggle for independence. This motivation is contextual with the Jewish identity in Czechoslovakia at the time. The thesis is divided into four parts, the first defining the concept of identity itself. The second part deals with Jewish identity in the period under study in Czechoslovakia. The third part describes the actual formation of the Volunteer Brigade for Israel and, in particular, the testimony of the motivation of the brigade members. The final chapter of the thesis analyzes the influence of Jewish identity on the motivation of brigade members to join their ranks. The thesis is a case study that uses primary and secondary sources to find the relationship between identity and the motivation of Czechoslovak Jews to join the Haganah Brigade.
A Deterrence Strategy: The Case of Israel
Syruček, Václav ; Kalhousová, Irena (advisor) ; Hornát, Jan (referee)
This bachelor's thesis deals with the State of Israel and its deterrence strategy by measuring the question of how the deterrence strategy of the State of Israel changed between 1967 and 2014. The theoretical part of the thesis first presents the concept of grand strategy. The following chapter presents the strategy of deterrence in more detail, possible approaches to creating deterrence, and the general goals of actors in trying to deter other state and non-state actors from their behaviour. The practical part of the work presents the development of Israel's approach to deterrence in individual historical periods, focusing on the period between years 1967 and 2014. For context, shorter chapters also cover the period between the War of Independence and Israel's security outlook after 2014. The examples show that Israeli deterrence has shifted from disproportionate retaliation to greater restraint.
Israel's security as German national interest: German historical commitment to Israel
Suk, Adam ; Kalhousová, Irena (advisor) ; Handl, Vladimír (referee)
This thesis analyses the connection between Israel's security and Germany's reason of state and examines the historically derived moral commitment of Germany to Israel. Despite the dark historical background, Germany and Israel have managed to develop close bilateral ties and intensive partnership. Nonetheless, the relationship remains very complex and the role of the past is still very significant. Germany still feels a strong sense of responsibility for Israel's security, and its moral commitment to Israel remains to be one of the most important factors determining Germany's policies towards the Middle East. The thesis provides answers to the following research questions: What is the role of Israel in Germany's reason of state? And What does the connection of Israel's security and Germany's reason of state mean in concrete terms, with a special focus on Germany's position towards the Israeli-Palestinian conflict? The theoretical and conceptual framework of the thesis is built on the constructivist approach to international relations. Working with the constructivist definition of national interest, it examines the connection between Israel's security and Germany's reason of state. The thesis also employs the role concept of civilian power to offer a better understanding of German foreign policy,...
