Monitoring the condition of the archaeological sites of Prague Castle
Válek, Jan ; Kozlovcev, Petr ; Kotková, Kristýna ; Fialová, Anna ; Svorová Pawełkowicz, Sylwia ; Frankl, Jiří
In order to study microclimatic conditions, monitoring of selected archaeological terrains of Prague Castle was carried out in the period from August 2020 to May 2023. The internal climate of the area under the third courtyard of Prague Castle, also called Great Excavations, was monitored in the given time range. During the monitoring campaign, sensors were also placed in the area of the Small Excavations and the archaeological terrain of St. George's Monastery at various times. In particular, relative humidity, air and materials temperatures, moisture content of building materials, etc. were monitored. Samples of building materials were also taken and analysed, and the presence of biological degradation agents was monitored. The research focused in detail on describing the temperature and relative humidity of the indoor environment in relation to the moisture content of the materials and their potential degradation agents. These are primarily represented here by water-soluble salts. Their hazardousness in terms of damage to historic materials is influenced by variations in relative humidity and evaporation of water from capillary pores in combination with temperature. Research has shown that the most significant problem for sites is flooding or water seepage through the ground, surrounding structures or ceiling.
Survey of the Přibyslav underground corridor by ground penetrating radar
Válek, Jan ; Kotková, Kristýna ; Kozlovcev, Petr
A non-destructive survey of the Přibyslav underground corridor using ground penetrating radar was carried out. The aim of the measurement was to verify the existence of possible structures hidden under the current surface of the corridor. The survey located the backfill above the bedrock of the underground corridor and other changes in the structure.
The process of identification of segments of the pre-industrial landscape in the Czech Republic
Kolejka, Jaromír ; Kirchner, Karel ; Ondráček, Stanislav ; Zapletalová, Jana ; Batelková, Kateřina ; Krejčí, Tomáš ; Nováková, Eva
The identified segments of the pre-industrial landscape represent a valuable cultural heritage of the countryside. They represent the subject of landscape and landscape protection. They can become an attraction of tourism and a source of income for rural communities. The novelty of the methodology is based on the use of the latest• and at the same time the oldest reliable cartographic data to identify the landscape cultural heritage segments. The methodology presents the identification marks of the segments in the current landscape and of their verification based on historical maps. The results of the methodology should contribute to the evidence and to the maintenance of this less known cultural heritage.
Restoration of the monastery in Šternberk
Pecháčková, Lucie ; Kocourek, Tomáš (referee) ; Guzdek, Adam (advisor)
The subject of the thesis is an architectural study of the restoration and new use of the historic building of the former monastery in Šternberk and the surrounding garden. The monastery is owned by the city, which is looking for a usage for it. The goal of the proposal is to give this monument a new life, i.e. to make it town‘s living part, which will have not only historical, but also contemporary social significance. And thanks to this, it also will have the means for its maintenance and preservation of historical values for future generations. This purpose of the study is solved by creating a pleasant and easily accessible garden environment and by choosing the content of the building, which will give people a reason to visit and use the monastery grounds more. The architectural design is based on an analysis of the current situation and freely reflects the ideas of the town management. And at the same time, from the point of view of historic preservation, the proposal strives for the greatest possible degree of preservation or restoration of valuable historical building constructions and details. The new content of the building is a hotel with wellness, a restaurant, a cafe, offices and a coworking center, exhibition spaces, art studios and a multifunctional town hall. The building is complemented by new architectural elements of the central staircase with elevator and the atrium roof, which, like the park arrangement of the garden, combine contemporary architecture with the concept of baroque morphology.
Cultural heritage education in selected programmes of the Archeoskanzen Březno
Fuksová, Johana ; Hanková, Zdeňka (advisor) ; Linková, Marie (referee)
The thesis focuses on the development of a concrete proposal for categorizing the objectives of the activities that take place within the educational program of the Archeoskanzen Březno Living Prehistory. This proposal is preceded by the definition of those areas of pedagogy in which we classify museums in general and the educational programmes of archaeoskanzens in particular. An integral part of this work is also a general categorisation of educational objectives in terms of the framework educational programmes, their cross-cutting themes and educational areas, and in terms of taxonomies of objectives. In the proposed categorization of objectives, the objectives from these areas are categorized and defined in order to make the educational programs of the institution clearer for primary school teachers and to set appropriate conditions for the evaluation of these programs in the context of regular teaching. The thesis also includes an analysis of the submitted proposal, which was created in order to further clarify the expected objectives of the educational programs and to find areas with the potential to improve or increase the educational impact of the educational programs on primary school students.

Calcareous nannofossils assemblages for provenance analysis of European paintings: From the sample preparation to the assemblage comparison
Jaques, Victory Armida Janine ; Holcová, Katarína (advisor) ; Caruso, Francesco (referee) ; Oszczypko-Ciowes, Marta (referee)
This PhD thesis is a commentary of four studies published and a fifth study submitted in peer reviewed and impacted scientific journals. Three studies are methodological work for the preparation of painted micro-samples to improve the measurements accuracy, the samples visualisation, and the combination of measurements methods. The two other papers focus on the fossil assemblages determination and comparison between reference historical areas and original paintings. This work is divided into three main parts, namely the introduction, the methods, and the calcareous nannofossils assemblages. In the introduction, detailed explanations are given about the paintings, historical materials, trade roads, what are nannofossils, how and why to use them. In the methods section, developed preparatory methodologies are summarised, and the most important results are explained. In the third part, the nannofossils assemblages, the differences between the assemblages from different areas in Europe compared to original paintings are explained and correlated to the literature. The impact of the preparatory methods on the results is discussed, and a conclusion is drawn from it in the context of painted artefacts in the Cultural Heritage field are unique, and so are the micro-samples from them. To extract most...
The Folk Song Cultural Heritage in the Context of Political Correctness: When hep, hep is not hop, hop
Uhlíková, Lucie ; Pavlicová, M.
The paper explores folk songs written down in what is present-day Czech Republic from roughly the beginning of the 19th century to the 1970s. It shows how song lyrics were treated in the past when they did not conform to the social conventions, aesthetics, ethical ideals, and patriotic goals of the time. When such songs were written down by collectors, their lyrics were often modified, some parts being omitted, others changed. This practice was followed from the early 19th century until the fall of the communist totalitarian regime in 1989. At present, these authentic folk song lyrics seem non-controversial by some performers, but many lyrics are far from it. One of the components of tradition is social memory, which is associated with cultural stereotypes—the generally fixed ideas that people have about themselves and members of different groups. These “Others” are usually members of a different ethnicity, religion, or social class. Their image in folklore involves certain ideas, ideological views, evaluative attitudes, and historical experience. Using the example of otherness, which in Czech folk songs is mainly associated with the negative image of members of the Jewish minority, the paper shows the possible results of misunderstanding the historical context: the anti-Semitic motifs of some older songs and dances resented in public may not be evident to those who perform them today.
