Reexports and indirect exports of Visegrad countries to China via Germany
Wlazel, Marek ; Semerák, Vilém (advisor) ; Želinský, Tomáš (referee)
Export of Visegrad countries to China is not only direct but is often realized via third countries. Sometimes this export is simply reexported, sometimes it enters the domestic economy as an input in production of exports of the third country and then we speak about indirect export. Due to data availability, however, it is very difficult to accurately track these flows for every single product and therefore they must be estimated from national input-output tables. This paper calculates the reexports and indirect exports of Visegrad goods led through Germany, as it is the most dominant export destination of all the Visegrad countries and also the main exporter to China in the whole EU. The results show that the V4 exports to China in fact more than suggested by the official statistics. Attributing reexports and indirect exports via Germany increases total exports by 68%. Measured values also show that 55% of Visegrad exports to Germany are not intended to cover domestic consumption but for further exports. Keywords Export, reexport, indirect export, Visegrad countries, Germany, China, statistical discrepancies, Rotterdam effect, input-output analysis
Analysis of the Commitment to Development Index
Syrovátka, Miroslav ; Hák, Tomáš (advisor) ; Nováček, Pavel (referee) ; Šauer, Petr (referee)
Analysis of the Commitment to Development Index Miroslav Syrovátka ABSTRACT The Commitment to Development Index aims to measure the effects of wide range of rich countries' policies that support or limit development prospects of poor countries. These policies are grouped into seven components of the index. The thesis analyzes and assesses the methodology of the index construction with the main focus on its environmental component. It is argued that although the environmental component is a legitimate part of the concept behind the index, the difficulties of its implementation limit its information value. This is due to the specific shortcomings of component indicators and the necessity to combine environmental policy indicators with indicators of exploitation of global environmental resources. The scores of Visegrad countries and correlation analysis show the specificity of the environmental component within the whole index and indirectly support the conclusions about its reduced information value. The thesis discusses the options for modification, both at the level of composite index construction and presentation, and at the level of individual indicators of the environmental component.
Enemies, Rivals or Friends - Chinese Economic Diplomacy in Visegrád countries since 2012
Zhao, Di ; Svoboda, Karel (advisor) ; Cibulková, Petra (referee)
This dissertation aims to interpret Chinese economic diplomacy in Visegrád countries since 2012. An accurate cognition of China's political-economic stance towards Visegrád countries is vital for bilateral relations. Since 2012, China has promoted a series of economic policies, namely 16+1 and OBOR, to build a closer relationship with Visegrád countries. However, the Visegrád countries are not equivalent to China in the world economy. By combining Constructivist analysis, this article will explain China's motivation, and Visegrád countries' significance. Then, by examining data, this article attempts to demonstrate bilateral outcomes in politics, economics, and cultures. Two major research methods refer to (1) qualitative analysis of data and (2) theoretical approach. Data have been collected from books, journals, credible internet sources and authoritative media. Theory refers to Alexander Wendt's Constructivism. Through these analyses, a comprehensive examination of the causes behind Chinese economic diplomacy in Visegrád countries is achieved. Outcomes of cooperation are both positive and negative. The future relations between China and Visegrád countries depend on mutual interactions. Keywords China, Economic Diplomacy, Visegrád countries, Constructivism, International Relations Range of...

Google Econometrics: Unemployment in Visegrad Countries
Pavlíček, Jaroslav ; Krištoufek, Ladislav (advisor) ; Zeynalov, Ayaz (referee)
This thesis examines the relationship between job-related Google search query indices and unemployment rate in Visegrad countries. We found that the unemployment rate generally moves in the same direction as the search volume index for the job-related term. The series of Google search query indices also proved useful for prediction-making. Models with Google series showed lower MAE and RMSE of static forecast compared to base models in all four countries. However, only models for Poland and Slovakia showed potential for nowcasting. The author deals with a quantitative description of the production and modifications of the primary legislation in the countries V4 and its comparison with the Austria. The methodology is based on the analyze of data from official information systems of the countries above mentioned. It seems, that the countries V4 move in a different direction then the Austria. We can observe the extreme increase in the production of modifications in the countries V4 after 1990. The situation described on the level of simple graphs shows very dangerous trends in the countries V4, which head for the decline of legal orders in these countries.
