Dynamics of Residential Differentiation and Segregation of Foreigners in Czech Metropolitan Areas
Klsák, Adam ; Ouředníček, Martin (advisor) ; Čermák, Zdeněk (referee) ; Uherek, Zdeněk (referee)
Czechia has become a noteworthy case study of international migration within Central and Eastern Europe. With a steadily increasing inflow of international migrants, it is anticipated that their contribution to the societal and urban dynamics will become more pronounced. This influx has led to a rise in socio-economic and ethnic heterogeneity, reflected in spatial patterns where distinctive population groups are localized. The expe- riences from traditional immigration countries indicate that the voluntary concentration of foreigners into ethnic enclaves often serves as an intermediary phase in the integration process. However, it can also pose significant risks in situations where immigrants are not willing to participate in broader society or face exclusion. The primary goal of this dissertation is to enhance the comprehension of the spatial distribution of foreigners across selected Czech metropolitan areas and to explain the related phenomena on multiple scales within the urban hierarchy. The investigation seeks suitable data sources and methodological frameworks to analyze the current state, trajectory, determinants, and particularities of socio-spatial differentiation and segrega- tion. Furthermore, a significant focus lies in the nuanced and theoretically grounded interpretation of results,...

Art therapy with children-foreigners living in the Czech environment
LACINOVÁ, Petra
The bachelor thesis deals with the art therapy support of children-foreigners during their adaptation period in the Czech Republic after resettlement from their country of origin. Specifically, it presents the experience of group art therapy with Ukrainian refugee children arriving in the Czech Republic after the Russian army invaded their homeland in February 2022. The theoretical part describes the circumstances and changes of the immigration situation in the Czech Republic due to the influx of refugees from Ukraine, the legislation applicable to foreign children living in the Czech Republic and the ways of supporting children with a different mother tongue in the Czech education system. One subchapter is devoted to the cultural and historical context of Ukraine, which is essential for the overall understanding of the political and social situation, as it contributes to the formation of the identity of Ukrainian children. The second chapter deals with the usual psychological themes of newly arrived children from another country. The practical part describes the course and focus of art therapy sessions for Ukrainian children, presents four case studies supported by children's artwork and defines the specifics of art therapy work with the chosen target group.

Social work with foreigners from the point of view of the Authority for Social and Legal Protection of Children
FAJTLOVÁ, Tereza
This diploma thesis is part of the project entitled "Selected aspects of the integration of foreigners living in the Czech Republic and their relationship to social work" (reg. no. GAJU 101/2022/S). The aim of the work is to analyze and describe the barriers of social work with foreigners from the point of view of the social and legal protection of children (OSPOD). For the purposes of the thesis, two research questions were chosen. 1. What differences do social workers from OSPOD encounter during social investigations of foreigners? 2. What is the course of social work with foreigners? The diploma thesis is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. In the theoretical part, the terms related to migration are defined, it also deals with social work with foreigners, defines its methods and support networks for foreigners, and last but not least, the definitions related to the authority for the social and legal protection of children, its characteristics, the legal framework and next. The practical part of the work contains the results of research related to social work with foreigners from the point of view of the authority for the social and legal protection of children. A qualitative research strategy, an interview method and a semi-structured interview technique were chosen for the preparation of this diploma thesis according to the instructions. Interviews were conducted with OSPOD managers or with other employees authorized by the manager. The interviews were evaluated using an open coding method and nine domains were created. Based on the research, it was found that social work with foreigners from the point of view of the social-legal child protection can be in many respects the same as with Czech clients, but the truth is that in connection with the outbreak of war in Ukraine, this situation of workers brought a lot of work and which they have not encountered until now, such as working with unaccompanied minors or other education system in Ukraine. The work was mostly time-consuming and psychologically demanding, but the informants' testimony showed that the OSPOD workers here had many positive things and these experiences brought them personal development and insight into another culture. The information obtained showed that the biggest barrier when working with foreigners is the language barrier. A problem related to the language barrier is also the lack of interpreters, which complicates the whole situation when working with foreigners, and social workers had to look for other solutions to communicate with foreigners. Other barriers are for example unrealistic expectations and mistrust on the part of clients, arrogance, non-acceptance of Czech law and reluctance to accept a new environment. On the part of OSPOD employees it is for example orientation in legislation related to the outbreak of war in Ukraine. It was about orientation in temporary protection, asylum law and permanent residence. As a result, OSPOD social workers had to adapt their work according to cultural differences. This work has the potential to assist other social workers in improving their readiness to work with foreigners. It can also be assumed that this work will serve as study and informational material.
Integration of Immigrants from East and Middle East
JURAČKOVÁ, Andrea
The topic of my thesis is the integration of foreigners from the Middle East. I have chosen this topic because of my professional focus on working with foreigners and my personal interest in social work, both in public and non-profit organizations. The aim of my bachelor thesis is to find out how foreigners from the Middle East are integrated into the Czech Republic, and how social workers can help according to their subjective statements. Five participants completed the research, respondents representing different nationalities from the study region. With each of the respondents, I undertook an in-depth semi-structured interview. The study is divided into theoretical and practical parts. In the theoretical part, I focus on statistical data about foreigners in the Czech Republic, the situation of selected national and ethnic minorities, legislation related to foreigners, migration and integration questions, as well as social work in the field of integration of foreigners. The practical part focuses on the research investigation and presentation of the results. The collected data were analyzed using interpretative phenomenological analysis. The research shows that the length of stay and the situation at the time of arrival in the Czech Republic had a strong influence on the process of integration of all participants. All the respondents demonstrated their full integration into the individualistic principles of modern society, and they were mainly interested in a less bonded way of life. On the basis of the collected research results, it can be considered that all the informants have been living in our country for a relatively long time, and it is evident that assimilation is in progress. Their ability to adapt has been demonstrated not only in their rapid learning of the Czech language but also in their adaptation to the local culture and religious tolerance. The results of this work serve as feedback to help us better understand the situation of migrants after their arrival in a new country. The comparison of their fates and the goals achieved in their integration into Czech society provides valuable insights for those interested in the issue of the integration of foreigners.
Inclusion of Ukrainian children into Czech kindergartens
HEYDUKOVÁ, Adéla
This bachelor's thesis is titled "Integration of Ukrainian Children into Czech Kindergartens." The aim of the thesis was to determine the complications that arise during the adaptation of Ukrainian children, the duration of the adaptation process, the number of Ukrainian children accepted by kindergartens, and the measures implemented by kindergarten directors. The theoretical part covers topics such as migration, socialization, different cultures, collaboration between kindergartens and families, bilingualism, education of multilingual children, and adaptation. The practical part is focused on quantitative research. The research conducted through an electronic questionnaire. The results showed that the management of kindergartens and their pedagogical staff did not underestimate the influx of Ukrainian migrant children and conscientiously prepared for the situation or knew how to handle such situations. As a result, the adaptation of Ukrainian children was, in most cases, very fast and successfull.
