The Call of the Wild

This project is a response to the call of the wilderness, and similarly to a trip to the desolate, inhospitable mountains, this work was a departure from the comfort zone of an urban environment. The project deals with an alternative view of the site of a former recreational area located in the protected landscape area of the Jeseníky Mountains, surrounded by mature trees on a hillside below a forest, in the village of Ostružná in northern Moravia. The proposal approaches this site with respect to the character of the Jeseníky Sudeten Mountains and creates a recreational area with a natural structure of buildings, which does not overpower the surrounding nature in its scale but fits in sensitively and unobtrusively. At the same time, the design reflects current requirements and needs of visitors, who seek an escape from a busy civilisation to a peaceful environment. In its essence and form the project seeks to distinguish itself from the former hotel and its forthcoming resurrection. On the contrary, it aims to build on an established morphology, supplementing it only with new elements, so that the new creation is still harmonious with the character of the landscape.

The aim of this bachelor thesis was to elaborate a review of the ecology, ethology and history of the mountain chamois in the Jeseníky Mountains. Another task was to summarize the current situation of chamois; abundance development, hunting management, social significance and its impact on the protected and endemic plant species and on protected landscape areas. Based on the points above, an objective compromise future management of the chamois in the Jeseníky Protected Landscape Area was proposed and conflicting views on its abundance and spatial distribution were defined.

Analýza ecese populací vybraných druhů dřevin ve Velké kotlině (CHKO Jeseníky)

The main aim of the submitted work is to evaluate the ecesis of woody plants at selected localities in Velká kotlina in the Protected Landscape Area Jeseníky. The field data collection took place in 2016. The woody plant age at individual localities was determined by dendrochronological methods. At each locality, the ages of woody plants were compared with records of large-scale avalanches in recent decades. In the work, the woody plant age parameters in different localities were compared and the woody plant succession was evaluated. The results of the research have shown that most of the localities were significantly affected by avalanches. The model mean age of analyzed woody plants at studied localities is 37-86 years. The possibility of the negative impact of climate change on limitation of the fall of avalanches at present is discussed.

Trees growing on the treeline can serve as a sensitive indicator of changes in climatic parameters associated with ongoing climate change. Understanding differences between trees and shrubs growing in this ecotone is a key for understanding the functioning of the treeline. Therefore, the submitted thesis deals with the study climate diameter-growth responseof Norway spruce and Dwarf pine. Samples from Norway spruce and Dwarf pine were collected at the localities at treeline in the National Nature Reserve Praděd in the Jeseníky PLA. Indexed chronologies were developed for Norway spruce and Dwarf pine using various detrending methods of raw tree ring series (Spline, Negative Exponential, Ar, Mean, Friedman). For subsequent dendroclimatological analysis, I used the chronology with their tree ring series were detrended using Spline. Subsequently, correlations of the indexed tree-rings width with monthly climatic variables (average temperature, precipitation total, PDSI – Palmer drough severity index) were calculated. These correlations were investigated both for the entire chronology period and separately for the sliding time sequences within the chronology. It was found that the radial growth of Norway spruce is influenced mainly by temperature in the growing season (May to July) and in November in the year preceding the creation of the tree-ring. In the case of monthly precipitation, their positive correlation with radial growth was recorded only in March and no significant correlations were noted for PDSI. The growth of Dwarf pine is influenced by the temperature at the beginning of the growing season (June) and in October in the year preceding the growth of the tree-ring. Monthly precipitation negatively affects radial growth in October in the year preceding the growth of the tree-ring and no significant correlations were noted for PDSI. The results correspond to the view that the most important factor for the growth of trees at the treeline is temperature, that is not so important for shrubs. The monthly precipitation sums and drought index are not limiting for woody plants of this ecotone.

Roubená dřevostavba v CHKO Jeseníky

The main aim of my dissertation was to create a project for building permit of timbered wooden house in protected landscape area Jeseníky. The construction and building system of the house had to meet the demands placed in the Czech Republic on a year-round habitable family house. Part of the work is, besides the drawing documentation for the building permit, also necessary realization drawings of this timbered building. I also focused on the description of traditional manual technology of massive wooden houses and machine technology.

Analýza stavu a údržby naučných stezek v CHKO Jeseníky

The diploma thesis deals with selected educational trails, which are located in the Jeseniky Protected Landscape Area. The theoretical part deals with the characteristics of educational trails and description of the monitored area. The aim of the thesis was to evaluate the state of educational trails and their maintenance. The evaluation was carried out on the basis of field research, which was realised using the standardized observation method. The terrain was also mapped and educational trails were marked in the maps. At the end of the work, model calculations were created for the maintenance of educational trails with proposals for funding.

Návrh obnovy naučné stezky v okolí obce Branná

This bachelor's thesis contains a design of the educative trail in the cadaster area of CHKO Jeseníky in Branná village. There are many attractive places, natural and touristy sights in its surroundings. The topic of the educative trail is bounded to the arboristics, therefore all proposed information panels contain this issue. The trail goes partly through not firmed forest path and partly through firmed purpose-built forest road. The terrain is more likely variable and hilly in large part. First part of the thesis occupies with literature review concerned the educative trails issue and natural conditions of the selected area. The rest of the thesis is a dendrological research of the alley, which is why the trail goes through this area. As a result, there are information panels designed, with their visualization, content and technical drawings. Furthermore a longitudinal profile, possible funding sources and an accompanying infrastructure were framed. This thesis could be used as a source for the educative trail realization.

Vliv hospodářských zásahů na změnu v biologické rozmanitosti ve zvláště chráněných územích: Vliv mysliveckého chovu sudokopytníků na stav a přirozený vývoj lesa NPR Týřov a NPR Praděd

V této studii se uvádí výsledky provedených šetření na NPR Praděd, CHKO Jeseníky a NPR Týřov, CHKO Křivoklát, které nepřímo, tj. podle počtu okusem poškozených semenáčků a podle nepřítomnosti odrůstajícího keřového nebo dřevinného spodního patra, dokumentují nadměrnou přítomnost chovaných přežvýkavých sudokopytníků. Hodnotí se také současně provozovaný chov zvěře, který je bohužel možný díky nejen současné, ale v případě schválení novely zákona, i budoucí myslivecké legislativy. Závěrem se formuluje obecná představa principů přírodě blízkého mysliveckého hospodaření, kterou by bylo zapotřebí na zvláště chráněných územích v budoucnosti prosadit.

Obsahem práce jsou rešerše literálních podkladů, vztahujících se k managementu NPR v CHKO Jeseníky. Jedná se o práce historické i současné na úrovni studií, expertíz, diplomových prací, invetarizačních průzkumů. V posledním desetiletí vznikly práce, které z hlediska vědy přinesly nezřídka poznatky objevné, dokumentující unikátnost některých lokalit, poznatky využitelné pro zpracování plánů péče, aktivně řešících ochranu nejvýznamnějších lokalit, jimiž jsou zejména národní přírodní rezervace.
