MENTAL LOAD OF TOP MANAGEMENT COPING WITH STRESS

Mental load of top management - coping with stress Ing.Mgr.Martin Pospíchal, The Faculty of Arts of Charel University in Prague, 2013 The topic of this thesis is the issue of mental load, respectively mental load in professions that are increasingly exposed to its influence. From a myriad of professions in which people are under intense mental load, this thesis examines the group of top managers, particularly in companies involved in the sale of information technologies. The objective of this thesis is primarily to capture the methods and strategies for coping with stress in this target group. From a methodological perspective, the semi-structured interview and standardized questionnaire research methods were used to identify strategies for coping with stress. The conducted research confirmed with certain degree of probability that intense mental load is an integral part of the performance of the top manager profession. Its impact is assessed as more stressful in comparison with lower job titles, particularly from the perspective of a wider range of active forms of mental load. Leadership style and job satisfaction

Ocitáme se ve zvláštní a jedinečné době. Ruku v ruce s technologickými revolucemi se proměňuje i sama společnost, a tak je situace člověka v moderních (možná adekvátněji řečeno postmoderních) společnostech výrazně odlišná od jakékoliv situace v minulosti. Člověk v západních společnostech na jednu stranu požívá výhod, jaké v minulosti byly vyhrazeny jen pro nejužší špičku společnosti (namátkou třeba pravidelná strava, svoboda pohybu, soukromí), na druhou stranu nijak neklesá závislost na ostatních lidech a nutnost spolupráce. Každý člověk se někdy v průběhu svého života, někteří dočasně, jiní dennodenně po celý život, ocitá v situaci, kdy je někým veden nebo naopak někoho vede. Mohli bychom tedy mluvit téměř o antropologických konstantách. Pro pracovní oblast, organizace, které jsou nutně hierarchizované, to platí o to více. Je tedy pochopitelné, že tato oblast je v ohnisku zájmu pracovní psychologie jako aplikované vědy. Současně sledujeme zvýšený zájem o spokojenost zaměstnanců. Ve vysoce konkurenčním prostředí, ve kterém se firmy v současnosti pohybují, je nutno klást důraz na efektivitu. I když vazba spokojenosti například na výkonnost není zcela jednoznačná, zcela jistě souvisí s fluktuací a absentérstvím zaměstnanců, jejichž ekonomický dopad zanedbatelný není. Difficulties in career decision making

The theoretical part of this diploma thesis consists of four basic areas which are crucial for better understanding of profession choice difficulties and subsequently provides an introduction to the second part of the thesis - the empirical part. In the first chapter, the reader will be informed about the definition of the profession choice, its historical development, which covers a pretty wide context, in which the profession choice is being accomplished. The following chapter deals with career development theories focusing on personality, development theories targeting career and theories solely focused on social influences effecting the career development. The last two chapters deal with an adolescence period which plays the key role in the further career path of the individual. There is also a chapter describing and sorting difficulties while choosing a profession. The aim of the empirical part is to describe the development of profession choice difficulties at the end of secondary education - the period of life which is considered by many authors to be vitally important for the adolescent profession development. Work-related satisfaction - causes and manifestation

Bachelor thesis summarizes knowledge from the psychology of work and organization field, in particular from the field of job satisfaction. The theoretical part covers different approaches to job satisfaction and its characteristics. In introduction apart from basic terminology important theoretical approaches to work satisfaction (e.g. single-factor and double-factor theories) are presented. Further the main focus is on factors related to job satisfaction such as age, seniority, gender, education and salary. Also the effect of job satisfaction on phenomena such as work motivation, work performance, fluctuation and absenteeism is mentioned. The final chapter of theoretical part of the work is focused on the methods of job satisfaction evaluation in the Czech Republic as well as in the world. The theoretical part of the work is followed by empirical part which designs a research project of job satisfaction in actual organization. Research project is divided into two parts. Coaching and typology of personality

This work describes theoretical background of coaching and it compares coaching with other methods in human resources development areas. The main context is the usage of coaching in corporate organizations. This work also combines coaching methodology with personality type approaches, in this case through the lenses of MB TI. Description of a developmental project implementation for an IT organization in the Czech Republic provides a framework in which coaching is shown as a main component of such a developmental project. It also explores the relationship between theoretically derived developmental needs of individuals and those of empirical origin. Assessment Centre Method Validation - Approaches and Options

The subject of this thesis is a validation of an assessment centre for employee selection, e.g. examining the validity of this method. Currently, the assessment centre represents an often used method of employee selection. At the same time, however, its implementation is demanding from the financial, time and personal perspective. If the assessment centre shall be considered an effective employee selection method, it is essential to pay attention to its psychometric aspects, especially the validity of its findings. First, the terms "assessment centre" and "validity" are defined and explained. Then, the thesis presents approaches and options of validation of the selection assessment centre based on scientific literature, articles and researches. Prevention of unemployment. Developing key competencies

This thesis deals with the issue of unemployment and its possible prevention by developing key competencies such as knowledge, skills, attitudes and personal characteristics. These are not only universally applicable when looking for a job, but are generally useful considering present demands. In the general part this thesis brings closer some theoretical solutions explaining the relationship between humans and work and it sheds light on the present understanding of unemployment as a social problem that has considerable impact on certain, perhaps socially challenged or vulnerable, groups of people. Here are presented facts about the impact unemployment has on human beings and their interaction with demographic and personal characteristics. Furthermore the reader becomes acquainted with thus far used approaches to conceptualizations of competencies and their effect on successful merging into the work life. The conclusion of this section attends to the possibilities of preventing unemployment on the primary, secondary and tertiary level. Psychological aspects of sales skills development

The topic of the diploma thesis is the case study of the business conversation with the client for persona! bankers and its psychological aspects. There is described the training programme, which has to develop the sales skills of the persona! bankers. The first part of the training is divided into six steps of business conversation with client and includes also the development centre. lt means there was also evaluation of the sales skills level of the participants. Then the second part of the training should take place - the advanced sales training - systematic six modules training, designed to eliminate the identified sales skills deficits. But only the first part of the training programme was realized, because the different training priorities were identified for the next year. Only part of the persona! bankers took part in this training. The theoretical part of the diploma thesis describes the communication theory and the training preparation problems. The empirical part of the diploma thesis describes the persona! banker position and then concerns on the first part of the training programme. There is also the methodology of the evaluation of the sales skills Ieve I.
Intercultural aspects of cooperation in an international company. Social psychological approach

The disertation work focuses on currently highly observed issue of intercultural cooperation. Following the change of social situation the topic has become both a practical issue and a subjekt of research study. It compares and analyzes crosscultural and intercultural approach and criticizes both approaches for supporting social stereotypes, especially thein negative aspects. It further emphasizes social psychological aspects of the issue, particularly social perception, social groups, hierarchical structure and organization of joint activities as systemproducing and meaningful source of mutual relationships. Supporting this by own research in ŠKODA AUTO it perceives such perspective as very efficient since it is based on practical experience and it also aims at practical problems.
