Šťastná, Lucie ; Jirák, Jan (advisor) ; Pavličíková, Helena (referee) ; Vrabec, Norbert (referee)
The topic of the dissertation is media literacy as perceived by key agents of the media education of adults. Media literacy is a term that can be viewed differently and whose content changes over time. For this reason, the term is introduced in its entirety. While the views of politicians and theorists can be derived from published legislation and scientific literature, the views of people most engaged in the development of adult media literacy in practice are not known. Therefore, the dissertation focuses on how the individual agents of adult media education (organizers, participants and officials) perceive the concept of media literacy, whether they share a common perspective on media literacy and whether it is possible to characterize representatives of individual concepts. The prelude to this phase of the research was a qualitative content analysis, which provided a typology of opportunities for adult media education in the Czech Republic. This was then used to select the most diverse sample of educational events and informants for the main phase of the qualitative research. Semi- structured in-depth interviews were conducted with informants. As a result of the data analysis, seven dimensions of media literacy were identified, the various combinations of which formed different concepts of media...

Australian journalism students'expectations of the employement market they are about to entercompared with empoyement opportunities
Schejbalová, Tereza ; Jirák, Jan (advisor) ; Pavličiková, Helena (referee)
Media, being a strongly cultural specific phenomenon is always closesly connected to society. The role of a journalist is influenced by the same process. This thesis is focused on the evolution of the journalism profession in a young and unfamiliar Australian environment and it's differences to a European journalstic environment where the profession has been evolving for a much longer period. Journalism was "imported" to the Australian Continent during British colonisation. This diverse evolution of the journalism profession post colonisation has influenced contemporary journalism education at Australian Universities. Analysis of the study curiculums of Six Universities (Three Czech Universities, which represent the academic model for European academic traditons, and three Australian Universities) will show that differences in journalistic education have strongly influenced the preparation of students into the journalism profession. The thesis will aim to show that Australian Universities are strongly oriented toward practicing skills. This will be shown to be in comparrison to the Czech Universities which focus on principles of general academic knowledge and understanding in the wider context of the journalism profession.

Šebešová, Petra ; Strouhal, Martin (advisor) ; Pelcová, Naděžda (referee) ; Pavličíková, Helena (referee)
Title: How to teach philosophy at secondary schools? A contribution to the didactics of philosophy Author: Mgr. Petra Šebešová Abstract: The thesis presents a first attempt to propose a complete didactic conception of philosophy education at secondary schools in the Czech Republic. The author thus responds to the unsatisfactory correspondence between the key competences and the content of the teaching subject area called Civics and the introduction to social sciences as they are defined in the Czech curricular documents for secondary schools, as well as she responds to the lack of Czech literature concerning the didactics of philosophy. The development of students'philosophical thinking is taken as the main teaching aim of the presented conception. This claim is supported by arguments based on the specific nature of philosophy and on literature on didactics of philosophy from abroad. Philosophical thinking is for teaching purposes divided into the following philosophical competencies: text understanding and interpretation, text writing, discussion, work with concepts, argumentation, problem solving, reflection (including critical examination and evaluation), responsible decision-making and action. These competencies are elaborated into partial skills enabling their gradual training. Means recommended for...
