The Theology of Creation according to Julian of Aeclanum and its Sources
Outrata, Filip ; Karfíková, Lenka (advisor) ; Hušek, Vít (referee) ; Ventura, Václav (referee)
The thesis focuses on the theology of Julian of Aeclanum, the most persistent adversary of Augustine of Hippo in the so-called Pelagian controversy. The aim is to present Julian's theology as a whole and trace its sources, especially in the anti-manichaean works of a group of authors of the Christian East (Titus of Bostra, Serapion of Thmuis, Basil of Kaisareia, Eusebios of Emesa) as well as authors of baptismal catecheses of Antiochian tradition, notably John Chrysostom and Theodore of Mopsuestia. In the first chapter, the personality and oeuvre of Julian of Aeclanum, characteristic traces of his polemic, connections with his important predecessors and his philosophical and exegetical profile are sketched. The core of the work, overview of Julian's theology, concentrates successively on sin and free will, polemic against the notion of inherited (natural) sin and the positive concept of baptismal grace, justice and law in its twofold form, natural as well as written Mosaic law, natural character of physical mortality, christology and soteriology stressing the human nature of Christ and his role of example, and finally, ascensive concept of grace beginning on the level of creation and rising to the redemptive work of Christ. The comparison of Julian's theological concepts with its eastern sources and...
Active and Passive Freedom in the Works of Pelagius and Augustine
Outrata, Filip ; Noble, Ivana (advisor) ; Karfíková, Lenka (referee)
Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Theological anthropology in the worlds of J. R. R. Tolkien, C. S. Lewis and George Lucas
Michálek, Ondřej ; Outrata, Filip (advisor) ; Hošek, Pavel (referee)
In this work I explore the subject of theological motives in the worlds of John Ronald Reuel Tolkien - Middle-earth, Clive Staples Lewis - Narnia and George Lucas - Star Wars. In the world of the Middle-earth, it will be the whole canon, which contains stories from the Middle- earth focusing on The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. I will use all seven books from the world of Narnia. In George Lucas's world, I'm mainly using the so-called G-canon. If there's a topic that's not covered by this canon, I'll look into the so-called T-canon, or the C-canon. I will compare the different theological questions in the approaches of an author influenced by Anglicism, Catholicism and Methodism with Buddhism. The most important questions for me will be creation, sin, grace, hope, forgiveness and redemption. For each topic, I compare the approaches and compare them to the biblical narrative. The aim of the work is if and howt extent these stories reflect a biblical view of man and of history.
Evil and The Original Sin in the Work of Pierre Teilhard de Chardin
Zeman, Vlastimil ; Kočandrle Bauer, Kateřina (advisor) ; Outrata, Filip (referee)
Zlo a prvotní hřích v díle Teilharda de Chardin Vlastimil Zeman Summary This thesis deals with the genesis of evil according to Teilhard de Chardin and his view on the issue of the interpretation of original sin in the sense of evolutionary development as he was led by his natural science and theological knowledge. The work is divided into three chapters. The first chapter contains a biography of Teilhard de Chardin. The second chapter is devoted to evil and its logical development consistent with natural laws. To understand his thought processes, basic concepts and relationships connected to the evolutionary process are clarified in this chapter, as well as concepts and relationships introduced by Teilhard de Chardin. The third chapter explains Teilhard's interpretation of original sin from the view of original sin on the axis of the evolutionary development of evil. The second and the third chapter also introduce the official point of view of the Roman Catholic Church on the topic. This clarifies the differences between Teilhard's theory and the official viewpoint of the Roman Catholic Church and the consequent conflicts with representatives of the Church.
Hans Urs von Balthasar's Theology of the Holy Saturday: Christological and Eschatological Aspects of "Descenoit ad infera".
Hejzlar, Štěpán ; Outrata, Filip (advisor) ; Noble, Timothy (referee)
This thesis discusses Hans Urs von Balthasar"s theology of Holy Saturday. In the first part, I provide a short overview of Balthasar"s life and seminal works. I confine myself to those themes of his theology that are important for our profound pre-understanding of his interpretation of Lord"s descent into hell. A thorough look on Balthasar"s Decendit ad infera scheme opens up into a wider discussion, both from contemporary theologians, and from the author of the thesis himself. The debate is contextualized by a closer examination of the history of interpretation of the corresponding article of the Apostles" Creed. The historical synopsis reviews both biblical and patristic sources, and describes its encapsulation in major Christian traditions (Eastern Orthodox, Roman Catholic, Lutheran, and Reformed).
