Divison of the region of the Šumava/Böhmerwald Mts. in terms of heavy precipitation Abstract This thesis deals with the spatial and temporal distribution of heavy precipitation in the Šumava region. The first part of the work is devoted to literature review regarding precipitation conditions in mountainous areas and a brief description of the Šumava mountains. The second part is initially devoted to the analysis of a total of 683 heavy precipitation events at the 64 stations spread evenly between Czechia, Germany, and Austria. The 50 largest daily precipitation totals at individual stations in the period 1971-2018 were always selected as strong precipitation events. The analysis was focused on the seasonal division of these events into four periods, namely spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Here, a strong link between the winter period and the westerly flow and the summer period and circulation types B, Bp, SWc and C is shown, and it is also confirmed here that spring and autumn are rather transition periods between the warm and cold part of the year with regard to heavy precipitation. Furthermore, an analysis of strong precipitation events was conducted based on the location of the geographical midpoint of the Tu event in quadrants I-IV, which were defined using the created vector space. The New Regionalism and the institutional framework of the regional cooperation in the Western Balkans
Šindelář, Jan ; Králová, Kateřina (advisor) ; Šístek, František (referee)
The presented thesis is analyzing the regional cooperation in the Western Balkans (WB) focusing on interactions of local actors. Theoretical background is based on the new regionalism, a theoretical approach to regional interactions. Contemporary studies on New Regionalism (NR) actually do not consider the Western Balkans to be part of this process and as a result we lack sufficient information about the basic characteristics of this region. The author proves that the WB is engaged in the process of the new regionalism and in fact by focusing on the institutional structure he demonstrates that several parallel processes are ongoing in the region as for example regional cooperation, integration or cooperation with another region. For the purpose of this research two projects of regional cooperation were chosen, South Eastern European Cooperation Process (SEECP) and the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) which are regarded as the main pillars of the political cooperation in the WB. By examining their structure we may understand the relevance of the region as an independent actor and the general aims of the regional cooperation.

It also tackles the question of whether the Musy-transport was intended to be a liberation campaign or whether the people involved in organization of the operation had their own self-serving intentions.
Creating and Preserving Community: Czech Americans in Omaha, Nebraska.
Shattuck, Stephanie Marie ; Králová, Kateřina (advisor) ; Perutka, Lukáš (referee)
Czechs are one of the many diasporic communities that exist in the United States. The state of Nebraska contains one of the largest Czech diasporas in the country. This thesis looks at the Czech diaspora in Omaha, Nebraska - the largest city in the state. Through the use of interviews and archival research, a fragmented microhistory of the community is created answering the questions of how the community has changed since its founding, how it maintains its ethnic heritage, how it represents itself to the public, and what its future holds. This thesis argues that the key challenges to the vitality of the community are generational shifts, conflicts and lack of cooperation between community organizations, and finances.
