Brummer, Martin ; Štech, Stanislav (advisor) ; Čermák, Ivo (referee) ; Kučera, Miloš (referee)
The evolution of the traitor: A psychological analysis of Emanuel Moravec personality Martin Brummer Abstract The dissertation aims to describe the personality of the World War II collaborator Emanuel Moravec. The psychobiographical study applies qualitative methods to gather and interpret the data. Secondary literature, primarily two monographs (Pernes, 1997; Vytlačil, 1993) and several other studies, constitutes the first source of data. The compiling biography of Moravec based on the analysis of the secondary sources was written and attached to the addendum of the dissertation. Books written by Moravec or transcriptions of the speeches of Moravec within the years 1918 and 1943 were the second main source of the data. The total of page of analyzed books amounts to over 4000. The investigation of sources was based on the method of desk research using selective and axial coding. As a result the main categories were established, to which following theories were applied: a) depth psychology of Donald Winnicott and Karen Horney; b) narrative analysis of Dan McAdams and Kevin Murray; c) cultural-historical activity theory of Yrjö Engeström. The dissertation presents three main types of findings. Firstly the personality of Emanuel Moravec, including the explanation of the main motive of Moravec's collaboration,...
Therapists' in-session experiences with a depressive client: A grounded theory
Roubal, Jan ; Bob, Petr (advisor) ; Jakubů, Jiří (referee) ; Čermák, Ivo (referee)
Objective: Empirical literature on the interpersonal reactions elicited by exposure to a depressed individual identified two basic reactions: depressed mood induction and rejection of the depressed person. Relatively not many empirical studies is devoted to the topic of therapists' own experiences when working with depressive clients, although working with depressive clients burdens therapists themselves significantly. This study explores how therapists experience psychotherapy sessions with a currently depressive client and presents a processual theoretical model of the researched phenomenon. Method: Individual and focus group interviews were conducted with 30 therapists of various theoretical orientations, yielding a set of 22 in-session event descriptions. The grounded theory method was used as a methodological framework for the analysis. Results: The therapists' experience was conceptualized as Experiential oscillation between gravitating towards a client's depressive experience and moving away from it. It's evolvement over the course of a session is depicted by a model of Depression Co-experiencing Trajectory with six phases: 1. Sharing depressive experience, 2. Turning to oneself, 3. Striving for symptom change, 4. Distancing from depressive experience, 5. Turning to a client, 6. Focusing on...
Play style as intentional model in video game players
Hrabec, Ondřej ; Chrz, Vladimír (advisor) ; Klusák, Miroslav (referee) ; Čermák, Ivo (referee)
The present doctoral thesis addresses the insufficient exploration of the concept of play style in current video game player's research. To reach the goal, theoretical framework of style as an intentional model of player's believes and desires is used. The main proposition of this particular paper is based on the presumption that play style works as a tool for predicting opponent's behavior. The research consists of two parts. The first one proposes a categorization which might in greater accuracy explain existing forms of play. The second part researches the topic of intentionality further through the procedural model of style prediction in progaming area, which is exemplified by the video game League of Legends. The results are based on extensive analysis of players' texts, interviews with semiprofessional players, commentators and game journalists. The conclusion implies a significant number of play styles and procedural complexity of recursive theory of mind ("I think about what you think that I think") in the field of video games. Keywords: Play Style, Intentionality, Intentional Model, Metagame, Metacognition, Mindgame, Progaming, Theory of Mind, Player Typology, Video Game

System for Dust Grain Levitation
Beránek, Martin ; Němeček, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Čermák, Ivo (referee)
Laboratory simulations of dust grain charging can provide an unique data about inuence of the separate charging processes, which are inseparable otherwise. Knowledge of the inuence of individual processes is important for understanding charging dust grains in real conditions. For laboratory experiments the electrodynamic trap, in which is captured single dust grain, is used. We have analysed several particular trap geometries and their inuence on the accuracy of measurements in this work. We deale mainly with nding of the electrode layout, which forms an open trap and therefore minimises unwanted electron emission from electrodes. We have found such modication of a linear quadrupole, which allows to trap the charged grain in the axial direction too. The calculation shows that the modication should not have a negative inuence on the electric eld with respect to the measuring of the grain specic charge.
Psychometric characteristics of Youth Self-Report in clinical sample
Urbánek, Tomáš ; Čermák, Ivo ; Štěpánek, Petr ; Schmidtová, Jana
The paper deals with reliability and validity analyses of the Youth Self-Report questionnaire by Thomas M. Achenbach. It is a method comprising eleven subscales, mostly syndromes of pathological conduct of children and adolescents. The data were obtained from the psychiatric patients (girls) from 12 to 18 years, most of them were exposed to family violence and abuse. The analyses of internal consistency and correlation analyses supporting the empirical validity of scales were conducted.
Artwork and storytelling in art therapy: emerging narrative identity
Štěpánek, P. ; Čermák, Ivo
Art therapy approach, in which visual and narrative imagination are, used to expression of important life themes, is presented. The authors suppose that imaginative creation in both modalities facilitates understanding of trouble experience and also narrative identity emerging, which the individual has not reflected till now. Therapeutic change is connected with this complex process. The case study illustrates the shift in form of pictures and narratives inspired by them during art therapy. Change of artistic style and storytelling genre indicates identity emerging. Re-configuration of painting style and story genres can refer also to identity re-configuration.
