Štěpánková, Irena ; Nejedlý, Martin (advisor) ; Žůrek, Václav (referee)
This diploma paper introduces as a historical source the work of French poetess Christine de Pizan who has been distinguished as a first "femme de lettres", i.e. the first professional writer. In the first chapter is outlined Christine de Pizan biography. An emphasis is placed on Christine's Italian roots and then on a difficult period after her husband Etienne Castel death combined with a decision to become a "professional" court poetess. A development of the way how Christine as a person was received from 15th to 21st century is also supplied in this paper. The development of Christine's work and especially its main aspects (and thus the areas of interest to which a study of her works could contribute) is a theme of the second chapter. After the introduction to development of Chtristine's work and its brief characteristic of individual works, the author of this paper goes to detailed analysis of Christine's book called Le Livre du Chemin de longue étude, on which she illustrates the most significant traits of Christine's writing: wide knowledge of philosophic publications, the Bible, close relationship with her father, building her own renown and being concerned to have a competent (and right) self-presentation in the court milieu, love to her studies and especially an advocacy of her female...

Childhood in Zbraslav in the 1930s and 1940s
Šuchmanová, Barbora ; Dvořáková, Michaela (advisor) ; Havlík, Radomír (referee)
The diploma thesis entitled The Childhood in Zbraslav in the 1930s and 1940s aims to answer the question what made childhood in Zbraslav in this time period distinctive and what features were the most influential. The first part is rather theoretical and describes the concept of a family based on the findings of sociology and history. As the concept of childhood is closely intertwined with family, we cannot separate the two from one another and need to focus on both. Overview of the most important scientific findings made by prominent experts from the field can be found in this section. The second part is practical; based on four distinctive components of children's lives which the author regards as important due to their influence on the childhood as well as on the future development of the child's personality and life in the adulthood. Those features are family life, school, reading, and free time activities. Although there has been a number of books and articles written about Zbraslav, only a small amount has focused on the 20th century and even less on childhood. As a result, the diploma thesis is based mainly on interviews with contemporaries from Zbraslav. Each one of them grew up in a quite different environment; that is why their statements could be only partly generalized. In conclusion, it could...

The Dangerous Method # 19
Staněk, Jiří ; Kowolowski, František (referee) ; Mikyta, Svätopluk (advisor)
I'm working with photographs of Sigmund Freud's apartment and creating their pseudo reconstruction. I'm trying through technique of linocut uncover light from black and white photos taken by documentarist Edmund Engelman in Vienna in 1938. I'm revealing volumes of individual fragments, which light falls on. Exposed light I keep for myself, for some melancholy reasons, and store it in glass jars. It is negative and final linocut represents positive. Atmosphere of pictures from Edmund Engelman's book has a big influence on me as well as Robert Longo's cycle Freud Drawings. Their atmosphere is catalyst for my own art solution.

The Map of Brno
Pulicar, Martin ; Klímová, Barbora (referee) ; Kögler, Žaneta (advisor)
„Hic sunt leones“ is a printed publication that represents the outcome of diploma thesis Map of Brno. It is a pocket-size map in a form of a book describing the dark side of Brno, fitting contextually within the scope of urban exploration. Locations described within the publication are far beyond the general interest of the majority, and even the alternative minority, of population within the city. These are locations whose visit may result not just in dirty pants or possible conflict with the police, but also in injuries or even death. The inaccessibility of these places is emphasized by the inaccessibility of the map itself, which is being tested at it's very edge of usability. Accurate cartographic mapping is not the intention of this project, neither it is the process of making these places easily accessible. Mediation of their unique atmosphere and providing the evidence of their mere existence is the primary intention here. More so because of the fact that such places are subjects to very fast perdition.

Three critical voices of post-war American literature
Malá, Kateřina ; Hanuš, Jiří (advisor) ; Calda, Miloš (referee)
The thesis deals with critical views of the post-war American society as found in three literary works: Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman, J.D. Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye and Jack Kerouac's On the Road. The thesis's aim is to introduce briefly the post-war society and then, on basis of text analysis, to provide criticism expressed by each book mentioned above. Divided into four main parts, it describes the post-war situation in the United States (political, social and cultural) and thereafter it focuses on the books itself. It provides a short biographical summary of each author's life but it mainly targets the criticism the book contains. The post-war period was significant because of the change it brought. The society of the 1950s was characterized by many "booms" that contributed to its development. The main features of this period were consumerism and materialism; these were also the principal things subjected to criticism. The question the thesis wants to answer is whether this criticism was justified or not. This objective is realized in the conclusion. Based on all facts provided by the thesis, the answer is that the criticism was justified; however, it is not so easy and it is necessary to read the whole thesis to understand all reasons that led to this conclusion and to think over...
