Mirth and matter
Barriere, Alexandre ; KORČÁK, Jakub (advisor) ; NEUMANN, Julius (referee)
This thesis is based on the author?s experience of directing J. Ford, Th. Dekker, and W. Rowley?s play The Witch of Edmonton (1621) in Divadlo DISK in February 2012 as a final performance in his Directing Master Studies at the Theatre Faculty. What is at stake in reviving such a little-known play of the Jacobean era, and performing it in Czech Republic? Can a text written as a reaction to a precise event (a real witch trial) and built as a quasi-documentary depiction of the society of the time, within the aesthetic codes of the time, be relevant material for a lively performance today? This thesis argues that yes, and that The Witch of Edmonton can actually be the starting point of what can be ?political theatre? in a form not only belonging to a long tradition of committed entertainment (the play?s prologue promising us ?mirth and matter?), but especially relevant to today?s audiences and artistic stakes. The first part of the thesis is a detailed contextual analysis of the play, the historical period in which it was written, the conditions of performance of the time, the material it is based on and the way it was dramaturgically built as ?political?. The second part focuses on the author?s analytical attempts to extract the text from its historical context, in particular through comparative history and history of ideas and using the concepts of Brecht?s epic theatre, depicting also how this research served as a preparation for the concept of his performance, a concept that is then explicated in detail. The third and last part is a short account and reflection about the rehearsal process and its outcome from the director?s point of view, making a final statement on the achieved practical work.

Abstrakt_Diplomová práce_Kamil Hilbert, architekt - památkář.txt Kamil Hilbert, An Architect - Conservator The main terms: Kamil Hilbert, preservation of monuments, St. Vít's cathedral, historismus, secession Kamil Hilbert (*12. 2. 1869 Louny - †25. 6. 1933 Praha) was a Czech architect in the late 19th and early 20th century, most widely known as the last master builder of the St. Vít's cathedral in Prague. His work was mostly focused on historical monument preservation. At the same time, he worked as an architect and builder himself. He was not only creator and preservationist, but also an archeologist and, in its way, even an art historian. He published several interesting studies covering results of archeological excavations at building sites; he was also keen on art topography. Furthermore, he was one of the founding members of "Ústřední památková rada za české země", an agency established in 1911 in Wien whose mission was protection of historical monuments in Czech kingdom; he also acted as a supervisor and advisor at individual restoration projects. Working closely with an important Czech art historian Max Dvořák (a student of Riegel who introduced the modern historical monument preservation concepts), Hilbert built the foundations of modern historical monument preservation in the Czech lands. Adamec, Martin ; Beneš, Pavel (advisor) ; Bílek, Martin (referee) ; Šmejkal, Petr (referee)
The use of information and communication technologies, including computer graphics, in teaching chemistry is one of the frequent issues of contemporary chemistry didactics. Current publications are mainly focused on displaying structure of chemical compounds and symbolic form of chemical reactions. This thesis offers a more complex view on the computer graphics and other means of information and communication technologies - their possibilities and limits of use in teaching. The goal of the thesis is to provide an overview of selected computer-graphics technologies and to discuss their role during current curricular reform, based on current problems identified by students attending chemistry-teacher training courses and chemistry teachers. Usability of selected elements in pre-teaching and teaching phases was checked. Innovations of contemporary teaching methods were proposed using computer graphics. The thesis is focused on the area of visualization of educational content with use of computer graphics, computer-assisted innovation of methods and educational content, computer games and the role of computer graphics in didactic transformation. Two textbooks for lower-secondary and upper-secondary schools were created. These textbooks contain newly developed parts using computer graphics. According to...

THE PREVENTION OF SPECIFIC DISORDERS OF LEARNING IN KINDERGARTEN
ZÁDILSKÁ, Jana
This work is focused to the specific learning disorders prevention, which should start as early as in a child's preschool age. Problems of a child with a specific learning disorder are not limited only to school lessons, however, they project to the whole social system, in which the child lives. To mitigate such problems, various stimulating programmes may assist that feature a preventive effect in the case of preschool children. The main objective of the thesis is to map a situation of a country kindergarten as related to the preparation of preschoolers to the performance of the compulsory school attendance. Thus the investigation sample consisted of preschool age children. For the investigation part I have selected the qualitative research method. The preparedness level of the preschool children for their successful school integration I investigated by means of the direct work method, in the form of a specific game applied to a sample of 27 children. As a research technique a questionnaire was selected, which was intended for the children's parents, as well as direct observation of work with the children, and a content analysis of adequate documents data. Having evaluated the obtained data, I was able to assess to what extent specialists from the kindergarten co-operate with parents, when preparing their children to a trouble-free integration to school, for how many children a possible disorder development may be expected, which would make their compulsory school attendance difficult, as well as to what extent the education level of parents is related to the preparation of a child for school. By my research I have thus investigated that the co-operation of parents and educators is on a quite well level in a country kindergarten. Nevertheless, the knowing of the parents on the means how to prepare a child well for its entry to school is insufficient in some cases. In the case of 10 children, development deficiencies may be expected, from which specific learning disorders may form after their entry to school. However, the specific learning disorders may be affected, to a varied extent and quality, by the background in which the child grows up. By my work I would like to contribute to project a solution that would enable to work, in a more systematic manner, with parents of the preschool children.

Analysis of the determinants of spending on gambling in Slovakia
Brodanský, Martin ; Chytil, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Babin, Jan (referee)
Which macroeconomic variables influence aggregate spending on gambling in Slovakia? I use data from 2001 to 2013. The basic hypothesis is that aggregate spending on gambling is positively correlated with growth of the GDP of the country. I provide an overview of the existing literature on the topic in the theoretical part of the thesis. Based on this, I choose other variables that might influence the amount of spending on gambling. The practical part of the thesis introduces two models with identical explaining variables. The first model uses net spending on gambling provided by the Ministry of Finance of the Slovak Republic as an endogenous variable. The hypothesis of the growing gambling expenses twined with growing GDP was successfully confirmed. Moreover, gambling spending grow with falling unemployment and falling income inequality. The second model uses gambling spending provided by the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic as an exogenous variable. All variables used in this model are, however, insignificant due to low quality of the data.

My doctoral thesis is actually divided into three parts. In the first one called The Theatre Context I am trying to prove the exclusivity of this living art form among other artistic forms. I am looking for new essential reasons to vindicate validity of theatre work in the age of electronic medias and virtual reality. On the base of a playfulness I examine the border between the real reality and the theatre one. I focus on the audience?s point of view, on their ability for active imagination ? the basic element creating the theatre performance.

Expérience Grand-Guignol: a project description from the viewpoint of the dramaturg
Kebrtová, Helena ; HANČIL, Jan (advisor) ; SCHEJBAL, Milan (referee)
This Master Thesis describes the Expérience Grand-Guignol project, consisting on the one hand of research of the texts preserved in the Parisian Theatre Grand-Guignol (1897 – 1963) and on the other hand of a graduation performance in Theatre DISK which staged four plays from the repertory of this famous theatre of horrors. The Expérience Grand-Guignol project explored in practice various approaches to the historical material of Grand-Guignol placed in a contemporary context. It examined limits of the genre and methods of staging favorable to the Grand-Guignol experience today. The thesis is structured in three parts. The first part presents the Grand-Guignol theatre phenomenon, its history and theory compiled from accessible literature. The second part is dedicated to a detailed preparation and realization of the project. It presents four performed shows, including the overall set design and storyline, which provides the frame for the cycle. The last part presents a short reflection on fear as an effect of a theatre performance, a summary of observations from the practical examination, and an evaluation of project.
