Artist as a gender related issue: gender stereotypes in aesthetics
Šlaufová, Markéta ; Ševčík, Miloš (referee) ; Heczková, Libuše (advisor)
The Thesis Artist as a Gender Related Issue: Gender Stereotypes in Aesthetics considers the problem of gender stereotypes included in aesthetic theories and concepts which are often used in Aesthetics. Gender (as a social construct of sex) functions as a deep factor in all theories of art, art production and artist. The problematic connotations of masculinity and femininity aren't based on the facts but on stereotypes; significant is the example of the myth that man is "creative", woman is "procreative". All of these gender related stereotypes lead to the fact that art and artist are usually seen as a male domain. That is why a reflection of Aesthetics from the feminist point of view is needed, to help to destroy the barriers that still remain in art and aesthetic theories.

Attitudes toward domestic violence in the Czech Republic and in the United States of America
Soudková, Šárka ; Buriánek, Jiří (advisor) ; Vinopal, Jiří (referee)
The work to be presented refers to the comparison of attitudes towards domestic violence in the Czech Republic and the United States of America. It surveys professional and public approaches to the domestic violence - the theoretic conceptions, reflection of this topic by the legal system, by nongovernmental organizations and by the public opinion. Consequently it brings the comparison of the perception of the domestic violence in the Czech Republic and the USA. Although domestic violence is not a new phenomenon at all, it was explicitly first labeled by the women's movement in the USA in 1960s or 1970s and later on in other Western countries. In the Czech Republic a discussion on this topic was initiated only in the 1990s. This diploma thesis shows first that for the researchers the domestic violence is not a simple problem to deal with. This can be ilustrated by different definitions, theories and approaches to this issue as well as by the specific difficulties accompanying empirical research. There is no clear conception of domestic violence in the legal systems of particular countries - more or less efficacious devices co-exist there, but it is possible to say that the best way of dealing with domestic violece is still to be found. In the mirror of public opinion we can see that some of the myths and...

Anthropogenesis of consciousness
Bažant, Jan ; Kebza, Vladimír (referee) ; Šípek, Jiří (advisor)
What is a development of consciousness of modern human being, i.e. with species Homo sapiens sapiens? The beginning step alone, how to define the inquired object in the research, brings considerable problems and discrepancies in different conceptions and approaches, there is the reason why it is important to answer another question at the first. How to qualify consciousness? In the part "Theories of consciousness ", in the chapter "Formation the term" I try to give a brief succession of particular conceptions about consciousness and a view of contemporary theories of consciousness posted up with the critical reflection. I am interested especially of the development so in the chapter "Development of consciousness" I summarize the up to now findings about evolution of hominids till the top species Homo sapiens. I mention some theoretical approaches there and critical survey of terms. In the last chapter of the first part, I inquire after reasons to qualify the culture as potential equivalent of consciousness. I appoint the culture as an expression of consciousness in outer world that is comparable as well as deducible into history and pre-history. What is possible to deduce from consciousness is possible generally to describe as products of psychic behavior (not only in pure behavioral sense).

Vojtko, Tibor

The introductory part of the text is concentrated on the definition of the scientific field which is the eugenics and the classical eugenism. The research is inspired by the eugenics of Francis Galton (1822-191 I) the English scientist who qualified the eugenics as a relevant scientific discipline which studies social factors which either make better or make worse gender characteristics of next generations of a human being. Eugenics came out of the synthesis of three ways of recognizing: a presumed idea about biological degeneration of people and social and cultural failure of a human society, Darwin's theory of natural selection as a universal mechanism of evolution and revealing of essential rules of heredity and development of modern Mendel's genetics after the year 1900....

Reflection of “otherness” in international relations
Kvašňák, Daniel ; Rolenc, Jan Martin (advisor) ; Doležal, Tomáš (referee)
The current migration crisis has put significant strain on the European Union and its member states. Immigration has always been a contentious issue in societies, most often facing significant opposition. By drawing on postmodern theories of international relations and Discourse Theory, this paper analyses how immigration is being increasingly securitized by the European Union and its member states along with what makes securitization the hegemonic discourse. This is done primarily with reference to identity construction through the framing of the Other, in this case the migrant, as an unwanted and externalized element. Furthermore, the paper details how the framing of the migrant as a threat to the internal security of a country strenghtend identity politics across Europe. Finally, using the Brexit campaign in the UK, the paper analyzes how the rise in identity politics in turn raises the possibility of a successful fusion of the anti-immigration discourse with the anti-EU discourse through the exploiting of societal unease.
