Raimon Panikkar (* 1918) is one of most famous thinkers current intercultural dialogue. Family background his father was an Indian Hindu and his mother a Spanish Catholic destined the direction Panikkar's intellectual activity. After studying chemistry, philosophy (Barcelona, Bonn, Madrid) and, consequently, theology (Madrid and Rome), he worked in India, where he became one of protagonists of dialogue with the Christian Orient thinking, in particular the Indian culture. In his efforts he continued, as professor at prestigious American universities. Labor initially pursuing theological and philosophical background Panikkar's thinking. Panikkar gradually develops in his works the idea of need for complementarity between East and West. He began by comparing the basic religious and phílosophical concepts using functional analogies (comparing the perception of reality, of God, of metaphysical's concepts such as transcendence, immanence, etc.). Very quickly switched to an existential plane, which culminated in the conviction of relativity of the all reality and the provisions of the relation as constitutive element of being. For the expression of Panikkar used the term "non-duality" (Jater "a-duality"), the concept i s inspired by Indian philosophy, Advaita-Vedanta together with the Christian doctrine of Goďs...

Miloš Urban versus literary reviewers
Prokop, Daniel ; Jonáková, Anna (advisor) ; Halada, Jan (referee)
The bachelor thesis analyze works of contemporary czech prose-writer Miloš Urban and response of literary critics to Urban's novels. The papers are focused on three novels, in particular: Sedmikostelí (1999), Stín katedrály (2003) and Santiniho jazyk (2005). Gothic and gothic-baroque architecture play essential role in all of them, so they are defined as "architectural trilogy". The thesis distinguish two components of Urbans postmodern novels: high-art and low-art. The aim of the study is to analyze both of them. The high-art component of Urban's novels is a dualism of racionality and iracionaility, modern and traditional society. The low-art component of his work is a brutality, a violence and homicedes. Two central reviewers hypotheses are presented and discussed: a) the philosophy of Urban's novels is just a postmodern mystification, b) the fuction of the low-art component is taken from horror and detective stories. Study of alternatively spliced variants of estrogen receptor alpha in breast cancer cell lines
Lhota, Filip ; Kleibl, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Souček, Pavel (referee)
Filip Lhota: Study of alternatively spliced variants of estrogen receptor alpha in breast cancer cell lines Abstract: Estrogen receptor α (ER-α) is a transcription factor responsible for mediation of the activities of its natural ligand 17-β-estradiol (E2), the hormone that together with progesterone belongs to the key regulators of mammary epithelial as well as breast cancer cells proliferation. Except to the major gene product consisting of all eight coding exons of ER-α, numerous qualitatively and quantitatively different spliced variants originated from primary transcript by activity of alternative splicing is expressed. Despite that some of these spliced variants have been functionally characterized, their precise role on final ER-α cellular activity remains to be elucidated. The functional characterization of individual alternative forms of ER-α and description of its participation on the overall ER-α activity is important for our understanding of their biogenesis and is also critical for the delineation of molecular bases for ER-α regulation during anti cancer chemotherapy. This work aimed to study the influence of alternatively spliced ER-α variants on the growth characteristics of clones constructed from stable mammary tissue cell lines in regulation to cultivation conditions and cellular...

Nunneries of Upper Lusatia between spiritual and secular power in the 16th and 17th century
Zdichynec, Jan ; Bobková, Lenka (advisor) ; Maur, Eduard (referee) ; Hrabová, Libuše (referee)
Convents of Upper Lusatia in the 16th and 17th century between sacral and secular power Out of the various religious and church structures of Upper Lusatia, the presented thesis focuses on the local women's religious Catholic houses, on the Cistercian convents of Marienthal and Marienstern, and the penitent sisters of Mary-Magdalene's convent in Lauban and on their domains. The period of interest is mostly 16th and 17th century. These abbeys are the only catholic institutions which have survived up to this day in the mainly protestant area. The introductory debate about monasteriologic research and about the possibilities of applying modern historical methods to the field are followed by an overview of the research dedicated to the area - both from the local and general German, or even Czech point of view. Careful analysis of the utilised resources follows. In assessing the factors that allowed the coexistence of institutions firmly tied to the Catholic Church and of the Protestant majority, it was first necessary to investigate the role of convents in the local society and to explore the earlier pre-reformation events. For the existence of monasteries of traditional orders was, in the early modern era, determined just as strongly by politics, (church) administration and by social and economical...

Němec, Jakub ; Stöcklová, Anna (advisor) ; Souček, Jiří (referee)
V úvodní části diplomová práce shrnuje nejvýraznější výhody a úskalí publikování elektronických dokumentů. Hlavní část práce pak mapuje vývoj v oblasti elektronických knih od jejich počátků až do dnešních dnů. Práce sleduje historický vývoj a současnost softwarových a hardwarových čteček elektronických knih, včetně popisu nejvýznamnějších formátů, programů a modelů.

This theoretic-historiographical thesis deals with the personality of the Slovak scholar Anton Popovič (1933-1984) and his contribution to translation studies between the late 1960s the early 1980s. The thesis examines the theoretical and methodological underpinnings of Popovič's theoretical work (especially Jiří Levý and František Miko), analyzes his most important publications within the field of translation studies, and discusses criticisms as well as inspirations of his conception of translation. The thesis concludes with an evaluation of Popovič's role in developing Czechoslovak and international translation studies, most importantly of the so-called descriptive translation studies, or the manipulation school. Three essays on public procurement
Skuhrovec, Jiří ; Janda, Karel (advisor) ; Mejstřík, Michal (referee) ; Tóth, István János (referee) ; King, Lawrence (referee)
The core of thesis lays in quantitative analysis of microeconomic data on public procurement and alternative forms of dealing with public money. It consists of three essays with one common attribute: extensive groundwork with data, including overlaps into legal and technical disciplines. The fist essay examines the relationship between transparency of ownership structure and (i) profits of firms winning public procurement contracts and (ii) competition for the contracts and savings of the public authority. It identifies a significant advantage of firms with opaque ownership structure in terms of access to public money. It concludes with a possible explanation of conflict of interest and corruption, which might channel such advantages. The second essay proposes and tests a novel methodology for benchmarking of contracting authorities. The proposed rating measures a deviation from best practice recommendations in the areas of openness, competition and transparency. Indirectly it measures efficiency and corruption potential in public procurement. The pilot results of the methodology are provided and extensively discussed for a group of Czech municipalities. Third essay investigates issue of crowding out effect potentially introduced by EU funds provision. It studies direct budgetary impacts of...
