New Strategic Concept of NATO: Czech debate
Pešulová, Hana ; Střítecký, Vít (advisor) ; Karásek, Tomáš (referee)
aj Two years ago there was a need to re-define the position of The North Atlantic Treaty Organization in the system of international relations and to identify it`s main threats and their perception. The strategic concept from the 1999 has become obsolete document which couldn't adequately react to new threats. In the 2009 the process of creation new strategy started. There was assembled a group of experts under lead of Madeleine Albright to stimulate a discussion across member states about the nature and task of NATO and the current perception of security through a number of seminars and conferences. Subsequent analysis of the current security discourse served to NATO Secretary General as a form of recommendations for the preparation of the new strategy. The process of creation was as important as its outcome document, because it included the general professional public in addition to national governments. In my diploma thesis, besides the main themes of the new strategy, I will focus mainly on reflection of Czech debate on the new strategy. I introduce the concept of epistemic communities by Peter Haas, through which I define epistemic Czech group that dealt with the creation of a new NATO strategy.

The arrival of new spirituality, Hinduism and spiritual Masters in the Czech Republic
Nykodýmová, Iveta ; Štampach, Ivan (advisor) ; Vojtíšek, Zdeněk (referee)
This text refers to the Indian religious beliefs, Hinduism in particular, that we can meet in the Czech Republic. Many people are interested in these religions and my question is 'what makes present man so interested in these religions and what is so attractive to them?' Foremost in my text there is basic information about Hinduism, including the myths, Gods and Goddesses and creeds. As the Indian culture is very diverse and rich I have only mentioned basic information for understanding the text well. Then I have described yoga in the text, Bhaktiyoga in particular. This type of yoga forms part of the Hare Khrisna movement. Both Yoga in Daily Life and the Hare Khrisna have already worked for many years and both have continuity with their Indian founders and came into our subconscious through their spiritual pursuit. I have described their influence in the Czech Republic on the basis of my questionnaire and even on my personal experience. Apart from these two movements this text refers to individual persons who are active in this kind of lifestyle. My conclusion is that these religious trends do not signify any danger or threat for our society; on the contrary it means that by helping us to find our way to God this enriches our daily lives. Suchardová, Hana ; Karásek, Tomáš (advisor) ; Bureš, Oldřich (referee)
Changing environment of international relations, changing conflicts character, and new threats and risks influence North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and its role in international system. Clear structure of international system ended with end of bipolar division of Cold War. Unclear political equilibrium brought the question of future of NATO. Political concept that was used during Cold war was not sufficient and the Alliance stated again in front of transformation needs. Also during the Cold War the role of national security had been changing. Subject of this research is character of transformation of NATO and its adherence to theoretical premises of neoliberal institutionalism. International institutions are often subject of research in international relations. This thesis reacts on the deficiency of interest about changes and survival of institutions in literature. The thesis works with the theory of Robert O. Keohane that is rooted in the end of the Cold War but has been modified by further author's works. After basic analysis three variables were identified. These are three transformation areas - institutional development, and mission conduct. On the base of theoretical approach analysis three independent variables were added. These were - level of institutionalization, character of...

Štulcová, Iveta ; Karásek, Tomáš (advisor) ; Karlas, Jan (referee)
Diploma thesis "NATO in the fight against terrorism and the formation of collective identity" deals with the impact of the threat of international terrorism on collective identity of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. The September 11th terrorist attacks on the US soil constitute a milestone in the history of NATO. The article 5 of Washington treaty was invocated for the first time. The main argument of the thesis states that, despite disagreements among allies about the role of the Alliance in the fight against terrorism after the September 11th , NATO was capable of reinforcing its collective identity and reformulating its purpose. The main goal of the thesis is to define a relationship between the perception of the threat of terrorism within NATO and collective identity of NATO, on the basis of arguments of social constructivism and with constructivist methodology. Discourse analysis of key NATO documents confirms the impact of September 11th on the transformation of strategic consideration of the Alliance, which has led to initiation of several efforts to fight terrorism. Outcomes of discourse analysis of United States, United Kingdom, France, Czech Republic and Poland reveal that terrorism has reinforced collective identity among NATO member states and has become a new threat for Alliance...

The prevalence of overweight and obesity at Secondary School Pupils in the Region in Berounsko.
STEIGEROVÁ, Michaela
In my bachelor thesis I dealt with the topic of the prevalence of overweight and obesity at secondary school pupils in the region of Berounsko. This problem of recent years is much discussed, not only for the increasing number of statistical studies but as well for new threats in the lack of movement, improper diet and other social influences in general. In the practical part I collected anthropometric data from measurements of pupils at 11 secondary schools. Overall, 685 questionnaires were handed down and from that 191 pupils were measured. For the assessment of pupils exempting their weight from tables within standard range was used Body Mass Index method. Six pupils were detected with obesity and fourteen children were overweight. More than half of the pupils from the target group was in the standard range.

Intraspecific diversity in the ichthyofauna of the Czech Republic, its knowledge and protection
Lusk, Stanislav ; Lusková, Věra
At present, 48 fish and 2 lamprey species occur in the waters of the Czech Republic. Of these, 22 fish species are protected by law all over the country or locally, the protection of 3 fish and 2 lamprey species is conditional. For the time being, there are no legal means to protect their intraspecific (genetic) diversity. In this point, one can only utilise certain indirect measures that follow from the limits pertaining to endangered species. The available knowledge of intraspecific diversity of the fish fauna in the Czech republic is fragmentary an incoherent. That is one of the causes of the absence of legislative means to protect the intraspecific diversity. In addition, the apprehension of this phenomenon by the piscatorial public is insufficient although this diversity is the most endangered by the very fishery management. Increased research and knowledge of the intraspecific diversity of particular species is inevitable as the basis for its conservation.
