Villages in territory of medieval Moravia deserted by reason of floods: climatic changes or human impacts
Hrádek, Mojmír ; Kallabová, Eva
Some of villages (Bystřec, Dolní Chlévské) founded in the colonized upland territories in the Middle Ages were damaged by floods soon after their foundation. A question is raised whether the demolition of farmhouses due to high waters relates to the impact of deforestation and agricultural cultivation of soil, or whether it had to do with the climatic changes as often considered today. There in no doubt that from AD 1250 an important role in increasing frequency of floods played LIA.

Enviromental politics in the EU. Comparative study of two member states: Germany and Spain
Garrido López, Silvia ; Riegl, Martin (advisor) ; Plechanovová, Běla (referee)
In a world that is increasingly growing in awareness on the detrimental effects that global warming may have on nature and human population in the short and long run, it seems reasonable to have a look at how the country which is going to be more affected by it in the EU is tackling it. Spain is going to be the country more affected by the increase of global surface temperatures but is going to be the one lagging behind in regards to CO2 reduction as established by the Kyoto Protocol. In order to know the reasons why Spain is at the bottom of the list against global warming among western European countries we have carried out a comparative study with one of the more successful member states on environmental protection in the EU, Germany. By comparing them we wanted to highlight how their different historical past combined with the political choices of their different leaders and participation of their citizens means a lot in their environmental outcome. We have made a research on their historical economic background since after WWII and also had a look at the different government approaches towards the environment and global warming. We have also looked at the evolution of green parties and how the civil society, media and NGOs had a say on this matter. The results we found is that after WWII...

Development of the European monetary integration - involvement of the Czech republic
Veselý, Jiří ; Plchová, Božena (advisor) ; Müllerová, Františka (referee)
In the beginning, the thesis opens a theme of creation and shaping of the European monetary system and passes on the conditions for the adoption of further states. The next chapter deals with the expectation of the Euro implementation and some reasonings, what changes might occur. The middle part is devoted to the relationship of the European Monetary Union and the Czech republic. There is a timetable for the introduction of the euro and its principles outlined here too. Important is also the view of other states and their experience in entering the eurozone. The last chapter describes the theoretical spheres of the changes for entrepreneurs and businesses, and these are then applied to a specific company in the Czech economy.

The American Foreign Policy with the Middle East : from the earliest days to the Obama’s mandate
Petraud, Jean-Félix ; Eichler, Jan (advisor) ; Dubský, Zbyněk (referee)
The following dissertation is an attempt of analysis and understanding of the foreign policy of the United States in the Middle East region and its evolution through time. Considering the fact that the Middle East region is or at least used to be a vital region for the United States national interests, the dissertation presents an exhaustive list of major events that have been major shifts in the US foreign policy in the region. The more or less chronological timeline allows the reader to have a better understanding of the evolution of the US foreign policy. The result of the dissertation is the identification of different patterns of foreign policy and to put the spot on the reasons of the changes of these patterns. Nevertheless, the history of the Middle East region and the incredible number of major events through the 2Oth century and the early 21st century make impossible to deal with all of them. Moreover, analysis and comments are based on academic research, but the dissertation remains subjective and may lead to discussions and debates.

Příhodová, Radka ; Kaplan, Aleš (advisor) ; Vindušková, Jitka (referee)
Title: Motivation of Special Olympics athletes for participating and leaving the Special Olympics Program in the Czech Republic Student: Bc. Radka Příhodová Advisor: PhDr. Aleš Kaplan, PhD. Objectives: The main objective of this project is to explore motivation of Special Olympics athletes for participation in Special Olympics Program in the Czech Republic and the reasons why some of the athletes leave the program. A secondary objective is to learn more about Special Olympics coaches, athletes and their families, and to receive further details about coaches' and families perception ofthe Special Olympics Program. Methods: The thesis is divided up into two sections: theoretical and the results. The theoretical section introduces the subject of mental handicap, different views of the term, the classification of the handicap and its etiology. With regard to common occurrence of Down syndrome among the population of people with mental retardation one chapter presents this chromosomal disorder. The pro:file the Special Olympics Program in the world and in the Czech Republic its philosophy and structure form the next part of the theoretical section. Very important component of the theoretical section is the comparison adaptive sport within the frame of the Special Olympics movement and Paralympics...

Heat and mass balance model of unit for biomass combustion
Tomšů, Ondřej ; Pavlas, Martin (referee) ; Máša, Vítězslav (advisor)
This work deals with the creation of a mathematical model for calculating mass and energy balances of the energy units for utilizing the biomass combustion by computational software W2E and it is engaged in necking the validity of the balance model for the real technology unit for combustion different types of biomass. There are presented basic informations of balances and described the procedure how to solve balance calculations of energy units. Introductory part deals with biomass as a renewable energy source, which has a large potential in energy system. There are presented all its important parameters, its types, methods of treatment and utilization power production. Next chapters focus on biomass combustion devices, theirs classification and theirs technological principles. For the specific type of biomass boiler (of capacity 1 MW with movable, inclined grid) - here was created balance model. The choice of this equipment is preferred primarily by the fact that the middle capacity power boilers can be considered as the most suitable heat sources in terms of efficient combustion of biomass. Another motivation is a key objective of this work, which is creation of balance model of the unit which energy utilizes of biomass, which belong into this category of heat sources and is available for real measurements. There are presented the available computing systems for balance modeling with the preference of the analysis program W2E and MS Excel. They are verified as the best instruments for creation balance model at the practical chapter of this work. The main output of presented thesis is thus balance model developed in W2E program which has been compared and modified to the real characteristics of biomass boiler. For this purpose were used the archived data from previous measurements and new actual measurements, which focused on the acquisition of the missing operational data and verifying the reasons of variance of the model and real status. In the conclusion, there are evaluated the basic operating parameters of the technology in various operating states by W2E analysis model.

Influence of USA on peace negotiation in 1917 and 1918 and attitude to question of indipendent Czechoslovakia
Doubková, Monika ; Stellner, František (advisor) ; Kovář, Martin (referee)
I want to start my Bachelor thesis by studying of peace attempts running before USA entry in the war; by reviewing in facts USA neutrality and by inspecting USA part in these attempts and why peace negotiations came to grief. I also want to analyze the influence of President Woodrow Wilson on foreign policy within the context of peace attempts and then to outline political and economic reasons for the entry in World War I. Further I want to attend to diplomatic negotiations between United States and Austria-Hungary. I will answer the question why the attempts took place at secret negotiations of separate peace with Austria-Hungary. I will also analyze so-called 14 points of President Wilson and I will sum up its meaning for politic and economic development in the Europe. Then I will state the reasons for the turn in USA politics in the spring 1918 when the effort to conclude separate peace with Austria-Hungary were left and American support for Succession State creation was shown. My thesis is based on non-published and published sources (Archiv Ministerstva zahraničních věcí - Archive of State Department) and Czech and foreign special literature.

The position of women and "women question" in late Victorian and Edwardian society
Tumis, Stanislav ; Kovář, Martin (advisor) ; Skřivan, Aleš (referee) ; Halada, Jan (referee)
The position of women in British society at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries was influenced by the traditional conservative ideas which allocated their place in "private (domestic) sphere"; these views continued to have in Britain considerable influence and they were moreover supported by the new ideologies of social darwinism, social maternalism or eugenics. At the same time the influence of representatives of liberal, democratic ideas, the so called new people advocating women emancipation in all spheres of life largely grew. It is not possible to perceive the end of Victorian and Edwardian era as a period in which the modern ideas on women position in society succeeded; on the contrary old conservative concepts though often in new context and another "more moderate" version had the support of the majority of British society, including women. The main reason why the feminists failed to enforce their radical claims at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries lied in the fact that women movement was confined largely to the liberal elites of middle classes and failed to obtain wider support.

English verbal (pseudo-) compounds from a diachronic viewpoint
Vráblová, Zuzana ; Čermák, Jan (advisor) ; Klégr, Aleš (referee)
We attempted to analyze not only the diachronic development of pseudo-compound verbs (or rather tendencies in the historical development because we excluded the Early Modern English period from our research), but also the synchronic problems in the Old and Middle English periods. But a fully consistent and balanced analysis proved impossible due to a variety of objective reasons. First, even though a fairly large number of Old English texts (i.e. 3037) survived into Modern English, we have no evidence as to how much texts were actually compiled in that period. The number of Middle English texts in CME is extremely low (i.e. 146). (What might seem puzzling is that Old English records surpass the Middle English ones. But it is due to the fact that CME has not been finished yet.) This unbalance of available texts makes any comparison between pseudo-compound verbs in Old and Middle English highly inaccurate. Second, Old English literature is to a very large extent homogeneous, consisting almost entirely of religious texts. Middle English writers compiled also other types of texts (e.g. secular prose and secular poetry). Nevertheless, it is impossible to draw a definite conclusion about the use of pseudo-compound verbs in various kinds of literature unless all Middle English texts are incorporated into CME....

"...for their better enjoyment of incessantly praying for us by night and day". Danation in Czech lands in peak middle ages
Vašek, Zdeněk ; Hledíková, Zdenka (referee) ; Bobková, Lenka (advisor)
The theme of thesis is the donations - pious gifts - of czech nobility to church during reign of king John of Luxemburg. I categorize apart from aristocrats queen Elizabeth Richenza, because she was not at king's courat. Also I class too high church worthy, who were born as nobleman. The donations have complicated background. I distinguish several kinds of motivation. The main motivation is religiousness. Item I distinguish economic, political and presentable reason of donations. During of reign king John of Luxemburg we distinguish two types of donations. First it is donations without detail. Donor only says, that he want pratet for salvation him or his familly. That is type pro remedio animae. Second type is donations with details. Donor wants definite numer of service, type of memory (eternal light etc.). In first half of reign of John of Luxemburg predominate first type of donations. In second half of reign predominate second type of donations. The most gifts is in Czech from man from rank of squire. He most gifts in is Moravia from high nobility. The situation in the Moravia is very interesting, because nearly half of numer of donors are women. On contrary, women form only 10-15% of donors in Czech. Explanation is a aktivity of Elizabeth Richenza and descendants of noblewomen Sibyla of Křižanov. The...
