Values and Motivation of Male and Female Social Workers in Social Work
GONDEKOVÁ, Karolína
This thesis contains both theoretical knowledge and empiric research. Since one complements another, the aim of this study is to deeper explore the motivation and values of male and female social workers for employment in social work. The theorethical part of this study defines values, their function, formation and place in society. It describes the term motivation, its development, various models and factors and also focuses on the concept of social work, its objectives, activities, competences and typologies of social worker. Finally, the study points out the role of gender, the differences in boys and girls socialization, the gender aspect in our society and whether this aspect is reflected in field of social work. The purpose of this study is to research the values and motivation of social workers (men) and social workers (women) for employment in social work.

Comparative cytogenetics of bed bug Cimex lectularius (Heteroptera: Cimicidae)
Sadílek, David ; Vilímová, Jitka (advisor) ; Ráb, Petr (referee)
Comparative cytogenetics of the bed bug Cimex lectularius (Heteroptera: Cimicidae) The human bed bug Cimex lectularius has started enormous spreading to all developed countries of temperate climate zone during the last ten years. Bed bug was almost eradicated by a mass use of DDT in these areas until the 70's in the 20th century. This temporal haematophagous ectoparasite occupies particularly human dwellings and bat roosts. Cimex lectularius shows unusual combination of cytogenetic characteristics, general for all Heteroptera, however, not usual for other organisms. The chromosomes are holokinetic, with completely achiasmatic meiosis and inverted meiosis of the sex chromosomes. Especialy remarkable feature is intraspecific variation of the number of the X chromosomes. The variable number of chromosomes of 43 populations of Cimex lectularius from the Czech Republic and 27 populations from other European countries was studied in the present study. The 10 variants of karyotype were found out by using the "hotplate spreading" method and the standard Giemsa staining. There were male karyotypes with 2n = 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 37, 42 and 47 chromosomes and two females with peculiar odd number of sex chromosomes X, 2n = 33 and 43, not complementary with any male. A stable number of 2n = 26 autosomes...

Effect of low doses of herbicide paraquat on antioxidant defense in Drosophila
SÁBOVÁ, Michala
Disruption of cell equilibrium between production of free radicals and antioxidant defence is named oxidative stress. The main component of antioxidant mechanism is activity of antioxidant enzymes, which include superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase. In this study we evaluated the effect of herbicide paraquat on response of SOD and catalase, their transcription level and locomotion activity in Drosophila melanogaster. We exposed the flies to a wide range of paraquat concentration. Our results revealed that transcript and enzymatic levels of both SOD and catalase have a similar biphasic dose response with the peaks at 2,5 ?M paraquat concentration, resembling hormetic effect. Then, males were more sensitive than females. However, females had an increased locomotion activity. We found that paraquat susceptibility is increased in males and mating flies. Therefore, this study supports hypothesis of stress sensitivity elevation as a physiological cost of reproduction.

Non-invasive methods for sex and steroid homones determination in gibbons of the genus Nomascus
Bolechová, Petra ; Bartoš, Luděk (advisor) ; Pavel, Pavel (referee)
The gibbon primates of the family Nomascus are classified as critically endangered species, and, to date, basic understanding and information about their biology is missing. With regard to the status of these animals in the wild and captive populations in zoos, being familiar with their reproduction, may improve captive breeding programs. Data collection in this study was to be carried out by the practical use of non-invasive methods (polymerase chain reaction for DNA extraction and enzyme immunoassays), using faecal samples for analysis. The first method, polymerase chain reaction, was used for sex determination in juveniles, because of their coat colour and visual similarity of secondary sex characteristic in both sexes; it is not possible to determinate sex without handling the animal. Another main purpose of this study is to try and answer the hypothesis regarding the ovarian cycle of females, factors influencing their hormone concentration and also the onset of sexual maturity in females and the timing of their fur colour change. Hypotheses were checked by monitoring the concentration of progesterone and oestrogen faecal metabolites and by evaluation of the composition of breeding groups of gibbons with the ZOO influence. During a four year period (from 2010 till 2014), there were a total of 51 animals analysed from 16 different zoos with a faecal sample count totalling 1618 samples. The results confirmed the use of noninvasive methods for sex determination, and thus ensuring the maximum welfare standards. Endocrinological analysis confirmed the hypothesis of the influence of the environment (ZOO) to the hormone concentrations and female´s pregnancy effect in conjunction with her age on the final results of the male - father hormone concentrations. The initial information in this study is the confirmation of the onset of ovarian cycle in young females without connection to their fur colour change and a significant factor of a mother´s impact and her territoriality. This study is the first to present a long term monitoring of ovarian cycles in females and hormone concentrations of other individuals, both male and female, and from various age groups. The results allow us to understand the possible impact of zoo environments on the reproductive status of these gibbons and contribute to the general improvement of breeding management.

Adaptation of transsexuals after sex reassignment
Bartas, Bert ; Morgensternová, Monika (referee) ; Weiss, Petr (advisor)
The aim of this study was to examine the adaptation of transsexual patients, both Female-to-Male and Male-to-Female after the sex reassignment surgery and during the whole therapeutical process from the moment they asked for the sex change. A series of three questionnaires designed for this special purpose was distributed among the patients who underwent sexual reassignment surgery during a decade 1997 - 2006. It was filled out by 71 respondents in total, 52 FtM and 19 MtF. We extracted the questions relevant to the topic, i.e. adaptation to the new body scheme, to the (formally) new sexual identity, satisfaction or regret, presence of psychopathology, adaptation in personal life, sexual life, in family, in the social environment, in occupation and analyzed them. Additionally we made some descriptive statistic of the examined population. We found out, that the satisfaction rate is extremely high, as well as the adaptation to their new body scheme and formally new sexual identity. We observed also good adaptation in personal life, in dyadic relationships, in sexual life, family and social environment. However we had also to admit that there was a difference between the two subgroups - especially in dyadic relationships, in sexual life and in social environment the MtF transsexuals were doing worse. One...

The phenomenon of a stranger in male and female culture
Kučerová, Jitka ; Czumalo, Vladimír (referee) ; Soukup, Václav (advisor)
Modern society does not support variety. Globalization proves this and it affects gender, as well. Society tends to negate variety and reacts inappropriately - by segregation, ridicule, suspicion, etc. Variety is still understood as something of little value. This work studies the issue of variety in gender, whose problems it compares to problems of a stranger. It analyzes both issues in the perspective of modern Western society and offers the analogy of gender issue and the issue of a stranger. This analogy is outlined in three major areas of social life: family x society, specific male and female occupations, and partner relationships. Our work especially stresses tolerance and willingness to find what is realistic in contrast to prejudices. Any kind of discrimination not only disturbs the discriminated but also the discriminating. The obscurity of gender roles in modern times and difficulties in understanding these roles lead to negative effects for both sexes, including a lack of freedom.

Hindutva and the women's question
Bulvasová, Klára ; Marková, Dagmar (referee) ; Vavroušková, Stanislava (advisor)
In my thesis I have focused on Hindu women adhering to the principles of Hindu nationalist ideology which stems from the notion of Hindutva as described by V. D. Savarkar who has put forward some gender sterotypes of Hindu men and women depicted as substantially different from Muslim men and women. These assumptions were later further developed by the so called sangh parivar. I have suggested that Hindu nationalism has in the late eighties and early nineties succeeded in mobilising Hindu women for the cause of the Hindu Right and brought them into its fold on an unprecedented scale. The mobilisation was successful due largely to the Ramjanmbhumi Movement which was then at its height. Right-wing Hindu women participated in the movement, and communal riots which formed an integral part of it, either as political leaders or perpetrators of communal violence assaulting, among others, Muslim women. This thesis also presents a brief overview of some women's wings of the sangh parivar and their ideology which in certain aspects differs from that of their male counterparts. It also considers the question of female emancipation within these wings and draws a comparison between them and the feminist movement.

A picture of "male" and "female" character in Yukio's literary work
Čtenáři ulehčuji orientaci v nich uvedením do děje. V příloze uvádím seznam vybraných děl a přikládám několik fotografií autora.
