The Building on Obilní trh
Zámečník, Kristián ; Šerek, Jiří (referee) ; Františák, Luboš (advisor)
The Grain market is an unmissable public space in the image of Brno. However, its southern part has not yet been completed and hides a huge potential for the development of the city. The form of public administration and its authorities has long faced criticism. Examples of modern, open, flexible and sustainable public buildings are minimal. The social discourse is calling for them more and more strongly and architects must have a ready response. The aim of the bachelor thesis is to design a modern office building that will adequately complement the Grain Market space with its mass and will be an architectural manifesto for future state offices. The building will provide facilities for 200 civil servants, space for catering, promotion of the office‘s activities, accommodation for 20 guest workers and other necessary facilities to ensure the operation of the building.

Hynšt, Lukáš ; Štěpánek, Martin (referee) ; Kratochvíl, Jan (advisor)
The current appearance of the surroundings of the Obilní trh, a square with a park situated nearby the city centre of Brno, isn’t unproblematic. Above all, on Údolní Street, between the tram stop and the Office of the Public Defender of Rights, there is an inadequate car park and a torso of a terraced building in an unsatisfactory condition. All this is a flaw in the beauty already represented by the park on the Obilní trh and the forest park adjacent to the Špilberk Castle. This work places the building of the Office of the Defender of Children's Rights - an institution that is to be established in the Czech Republic soon to control the progress of authorities, as well as other institutions that may interfere with the child's social and legal status instead of parking lots and neglected buildings. The solution is designed to be modern, open, and sustainable. With its idea and concrete form, it suggests that it welcomes children and their parents with open arms, but it is also a pleasant place for employees who implement the institution's powers daily. In addition to the "office" itself, the building and its surroundings offer parking, spaces for commercial use and for temporary accommodation. Its visual side suitably illustrates the surroundings full of greenery and the bustle of social life.

The grain market is part of the city center of Brno. The grain market is a square with a park that overlooks the Špilberk hill. However, Údolní Street, as a connecting link between the center and the Grain Market, has several shortcomings. One of the key ones is the gap between the Ombudsman's office and the public transport stop. There is currently an unsuitable car park and several dilapidated houses on this gap. These houses are slowly being demolished due to their poor technical condition. An undeveloped gap in the Grain Market is a long-term problem that needs to be addressed. It is currently the property of the South Moravian Region. According to information, he does not currently intend to address this issue in the near future. In the future, he is interested in stopping it. This plan is in sight, but when it occurs, the City of Brno, which is interested in the plot, will also take part in this project. The building for the office of the South Moravian Region, or rather its branch, will be installed in the gap. The current headquarters does not have sufficient capacity and it completely lacks any conference center or place where unions could expand and add to more sections. The proposal and the overall idea to choose a branch of the regional office were created in consultation with the regional office. In the future, it is not expected that the current unions will disappear, but rather that sub-committees may begin to be selected and formed, thus creating the right to additional office space. The proposal also takes into account the space for catering for employees and the public. The idea of transparency allows the interconnection of individual structures. The bachelor's thesis will test knowledge in the areas of design of urban public spaces, office buildings, buildings for temporary housing, interior design and technical design of the building.
Urban Gardening: Motives and the Possibility of Transformation of the Public Space in the City
Papoušková, Kristina ; Illner, Michal (advisor) ; Grygar, Jakub (referee)
This diploma thesis pursues the phenomenon of urban gardening. It especially focuses on urban gardening in the form of community gardens, whose number has multiplied in Prague in the recent years. This trend has also caused an interest of the media and thus its is natural to research the motivation of the people, who participate in this activity, whether it is deeper or if it is just a fad. As a theroretical footing the ideas of Manuel Castells about urban social movements as well as the ideas of Henri Lefebvre about the right to the city were used. These authors believed that in the city the human scale is the most important and not financial value of the urban space. In the next part of the theoretical work the problem of public space and its interpretation in social sciences is presented. The analysis is dedicated to urban gardening in Prague. It aims to find whether it is just a temporary fashion or if the gardens could become permanent part of the public space in Prague. The function of community gardens is analysed with the use of a case study of one such garden. The work also tries to find out if the gardens in public space only bring positives or if they can also cause conficts.

Barešová, Kateřina ; Sládek, Jan (advisor) ; Duffková, Jana (referee)
The bachelor thesis is dedicated to the influence of city environment on the social life of its inhabitants with regards to the design of space. I am pointing to the influence of type of development of the city space and appearance of public ground on forming neighbor relationships among inhabitants. In the thesis, I am focusing on public space in unique city locality of housing development Solidarita. This housing project, which has been designed as a space, which shall support community relationships, does not work according to the ideas of its designers. One of the last public areas in the housing development Solidarita is the Park Na Solidarite, which does not comply with its function. I am suggesting possible reasons why it is so and I inquire into how local inhabitants perceive the space. KEY WORDS Sociology of architecture, social relations, urban space, public space

Statue, location, relation - Bohemia in 80's of the 20th century
Péčová, Kristýna ; Klimešová, Marie (advisor) ; Prahl, Roman (referee)
As a subject to my bachelor's thesis I chose the sculptures and installations made by Czech artists during the period of 1980s, which were created with the aim of exterior placement, out of the traditional exhibition spaces represented by museums and galleries. The keynote of my work will be the relation and interactions between a piece of art and its surroundings as well as the concept of space itself and its overlooked qualities that art may help to reveal. I decided to focus on the exhibition known as Malostranské dvorky, which took place in Prague in 1981. The idea that has led to the organization of the exhibition and its specific circumstances will be my main interest alongside the description of the particular works of art displayed and their destiny during and after the official end of the exhibition. Furthermore, I will compare the exhibition held in the intimate and unique atmosphere of the old Prague quarter with art that was produced in the same period of time within the official state commissions for newly constructed housing estates and public buildings, such as department stores, hospitals and more. Last but not least, both phenomenons of Czech outdoor sculpture will be compared in more global context with site-specific artworks. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
