Music mood and emotion recognition using Music information retrieval techniques
Smělý, Pavel ; Mucha, Ján (referee) ; Kiska, Tomáš (advisor)
This work focuses on scientific area called Music Information Retrieval, more precisely it’s subdivision focusing on the recognition of emotions in music called Music Emotion Recognition. The beginning of the work deals with general overview and definition of MER, categorization of individual methods and offers a comprehensive view of this discipline. The thesis also concentrates on the selection and description of suitable parameters for the recognition of emotions, using tools openSMILE and MIRtoolbox. A freely available DEAM database was used to obtain the set of music recordings and their subjective emotional annotations. The practical part deals with the design of a static dimensional regression evaluation system for numerical prediction of musical emotions in music recordings, more precisely their position in the AV emotional space. The thesis publishes and comments on the results obtained by individual analysis of the significance of individual parameters and for the overall analysis of the prediction of the proposed model.
Extraction of multilingual valency frames from dependency treebanks
Faryad, Ján ; Zeman, Daniel (advisor) ; Lopatková, Markéta (referee)
Multilingual valency dictionaries provide helpful information about correspon- dence of valency frames (verbs and their arguments) across various languages. This work aims at developing a program that automatically creates a multi- lingual valency dictionary, based on parallel treebanks annotated according to Universal Dependencies. This task includes monolingual extraction of va- lency frames and their cross-lingual linking. Various methods for solving the task are analysed and implemented. The work includes both general, language- independent approach and additional language-specific extensions, provided in particular for English, Czech and Slovak. The methods for linking the valency frames include using word alignment, morphological and syntactic information contained in the UD annotation or similarity of verbs between related languages. The quality of the solution is evaluated by multiple established metrics on man- ually annotated data or by comparison with an existing valency dictionary. 1
Valency syntax in teaching practice
JAHODOVÁ, Aneta
The aim of the bachelor´s thesis is to present the basic principles of valence syntax in academic manuals and to map the extent to which these approaches are reflected in Czech language textbooks for the lower-secondary school level. The aim of this thesis is also to compare not only the content of this curriculum, but especially the methodological suitability and imaginativeness of approaches of various textbook series, possibly also design own approaches to teaching this issue at the lower-secondary school level.
ERP correlates of valence in affective priming
MEŠKANOVÁ, Michaela
The bachelor thesis, ERP (event-related potentials) correlates of the valence in affective priming, deals with the affective priming from the point of view of the event related potentials processing by electroencephalography, when it is used experimental presentations with different valence and arousal levels. The aim of this thesis is the approaching of the auditory priming effect on the visual processing impulse. This bachelor thesis is divided into theoretical and practical part, where the theoretical part deals with the general principles of the affective priming, emotions and electroencephalography method, including ERP component. The empirical part deals with the experiment, whose aim was description of the auditory priming effect on the affective processing target by the ERP components. Twenty six respondents took part in the experiment. They saw a presentation made in OpenSesame programme in the total length of sixty minutes. The neural data were scanned from the head scalp by the device Biosemi ActiveTwo with 64 electrodes. In the final processing there were 19 measured samples. After the final processing, I analysed 8 graphs displaying ERP curved lines of the relevant electrodes both the high-arousal and low-arousal processing target level. In the comparison with the studies not including affective auditory priming, all given hypothesis were approved. The final discussion summarizes all possible restrictions that could influence acceptance of the alternative hypothesis.
Valence of verbs in current german language in comparison
RYSKOVÁ, Jana
The theme of my work is the valence of verbs in german language. My work is divided into two parts, the first one is theoretical, the second practical. In the first part of my work, I describe the valence and all the terms related to the topic. After that I concentrated on the valence theories of four noted german linquists, whose works I compared. Based on several german dictionaries I created my own czech {--} german valence dictionary, what was the task of the second part of my work. In the end I summarized the results of my work and made out a statistics.
Automatic linking of lexicographic sources and corpus data
Bejček, Eduard ; Lopatková, Markéta (advisor) ; Horák, Aleš (referee) ; Žabokrtský, Zdeněk (referee)
Along with the increasing development of language resources - i.e., new lexicons, lexical databases, corpora, treebanks - the need for their efficient interlinking is growing. With such a linking, one can easily benefit from all their properties and information. Considering the convergence of resources, universal lexicographic formats are frequently discussed. In the present thesis, we investigate and analyse methods of interlinking language resources automatically. We introduce a system for interlinking lexicons (such as VALLEX, PDT-Vallex, FrameNet or SemLex) that offer information on syntactic properties of their entries. The system is automated and can be used repeatedly with newer versions of lexicons under development. We also design a method for identification of multiword expressions in a parsed text based on syntactic information from the SemLex lexicon. An output that verifies feasibility of the used methods is, among others, the mapping between the VALLEX and the PDT-Vallex lexicons, resulting in tens of thousands of annotated treebank sentences from the PDT and the PCEDT treebanks added into VALLEX. Valency of Verbs in the Prague Dependency Treebank
Urešová, Zdeňka ; Hajičová, Eva (advisor) ; Lopatková, Markéta (referee) ; Ondrejovič, Slavo (referee)
Title: Valency of verbs in the Prague Dependency Treebank Author: PhDr. Zdeňka Urešová Department: Institute of Formal and Applied Linguistics MFF UK Supervisor: Prof. PhDr. Eva Hajičová, DrSc. Abstract: This dissertation describes PDT-Vallex, a valency lexicon of Czech verbs, and its relation to the annotation of the Prague Dependency Treebank (PDT). The PDT-Vallex lexicon was created during the an- notation of the PDT and it is a valuable source of verbal valency information available both for linguistic research and for computer- ized natural language processing. In this thesis, we describe not only the structure and design of the lexicon (which is closely related to the notion of valency as developed in the Functional Generative De- scription of language) but also the relation between the PDT-Vallex and the PDT. The explicit and full-coverage linking of the lexicon to the treebank prompted us to pay special attention to diatheses; we propose formal transformation rules for diatheses to handle their surface realization even when the canonical forms of verb arguments as captured in the lexicon do not correspond to the forms of these arguments actually appearing in the corpus.

Cognitive errors in mass media communication
Zíka, Vojtěch ; Křeček, Jan (advisor) ; Hladík, Radim (referee)
This work is based on an assumption that human decision-making process is following several approximate rules (heuristics) that causes predictable and systematic errors in judgement (cognitive biases). Although this stand point is typical for fields like behavioural economics or behavioural law and economics, there is no reason to not apply this logic also on other discipline like a mass media communication studies. This work offers an analysis of the information market where supply side is represented by producers of information (e.g. media organizations) and demand side is represented by consumers of those information (audience). The analysis is focused on factors that cause perceived description of a particular event can vastly differ from this event. One of those cognitive biases which cause different perception of the same media content is called hostile media effect. In respect to this effect, sympathizers with a socially controversial topic tend to perceive information in the mass media as hostile to their own opinion. Previous research concluded that hostile perception is mainly caused by a reach of information which is explained by the selective categorization - although individuals with different worldview can see the same content, they perceive it with a different valence. The valence of the...
Syntax of Adjective Compounds in a Bilingual Dictionary
Schmidtová, Iva ; Vachková, Marie (advisor) ; Hejhalová, Věra (referee)
The aim of the given thesis is to expound the problem of syntax processing by creating adjectival compounds in dictionary entries for the Large German-Czech Academic Dictionary. Assuming that exactly these words, which belong to the complicated vocabulary items, cause difficulties for foreign speakers with text comprehension and text production. It is based on the nature of German language, which makes many compounds, as opposed to in Czech language. Not only are the meanings of these words revealed to be problematic, but also their usage. The thesis is divided into two parts. The theoretical part deals with characteristics of adjectives as word class, and because each word always has its context, attention will be primarily focused on the adjectival valency. Previously, only the valency of verbs and substantives has been discussed. When a native speaker automatically knows these syntax structures and even when, in case of foreign language, there could exist structural similarities between the source and target language, the structures ought consequently to be given in the dictionary. In some mono- or bilingual dictionary the user should find complex informations for word searched. The practical part involves analysis of ten chosen adjective compounds, which shows how the valency structures are...
