Comparative analysis of News Broadcasting on Czech Television and TV Nova during the fire in Bohemian Switzerland
Dumbrovská, Zuzana ; Kruml, Milan (advisor) ; Štoll, Martin (referee)
The thesis focuses on the comparison of noon and evening news spots in Czech Television and TV Nova. The aim is to find out how much broadcasting time is devoted to the fire in Bohemian Switzerland, which is considered to be one of the largest and worst fires in the Czech Republic. We examine the period from the outbreak of the fire for approximately a week, when the situation is still on going (more precisely 24.7. - 31.7.2022). We analyze the following sessions: Události and Televizní noviny, Zprávy ve 12 and Polední Televizní noviny. We will use a quantitative analysis to provide clear, accurate and verifiable results. In addition to numerical analysis, we will also focus on the order of individual news items in the broadcast and compare events in Bohemian Switzerland with other events that have occurred in Czech Republic and around the world. The aim is to determine whether the media is subject to campaignibility, which means that media favors a particular issue over others, regardless of their actual importance. The results of this thesis could be used for further analyses in the future, which could include a larger research period and more media types.

Kalášková, Jana ; Wolák, Radim (advisor) ; Odstrčilová, Klára (referee)
The compulsory mathematics matriculation is a long-standing topic of discussion among the professional and lay population. The amendment to the Education Act, mandating compulsory mathematics graduation for all secondary school students, was first introduced by former Education Minister Marcel Chládek. For the first time, the matriculation exam was to be compulsory for students taking their matriculation exam in the 2020/2021 school year. Now students can choose between a foreign language and mathematics. The topic of this thesis is the issue of the compulsory mathematics matriculation exam and its media portrayal, in my case in the news coverage of Nova television and Czech Television, where I will examine the coverage of the topic in the main evening news of both media. The aim of my thesis is to find out how the examined media portrayed the issue in the period from June 2013 to June 2020, how many reports were devoted to the topic, how long they were, which people are associated with the topic and which parties expressed their views on the topic.
Analysis of the mixed public-private system of the TV broadcasting in France from the aspect of news
Švihelová, Veronika ; Šmíd, Milan (advisor) ; Trampota, Tomáš (referee)
Diploma thesis "Analysis of the mixed public-private system of the TV broadcasting in France from the aspect of news" deals with the TV broadcasting in France, its development and its present. In the experimental part of this work the author tried to describe the principal TV news broadcast of the two most powerful French TV stations and to compare it to the two corresponding TV stations in the Czech Republic. The goal of this comparison was to find out whether the public and private TV stations news have some features in common, concerning for example its content, types of the reports and other universally established methods, how to attract the TV viewers and to increase the ratings. The author tried to find these principles via the research, to describe them by the comparison of the main evening news broadcast in the chosen nationwide private TV station in France and its corresponding counterparts in the Czech Republic and the subsequent comparison with the parallel pair of public stations. The author of this thesis also deals with the premise, that the private TV stations tend to the "infotainment" - the "funny" way of presenting the news in order to attract the viewers to the screens, often at the expense of its information value. This is also the reason why this diploma thesis deals in one...
Media Representation of Politicians in television Nova news (with a focus on ČSSD congresses and ODS congresses in 1995-2017)
Heřmanská, Lucie ; Štoll, Martin (advisor) ; Nečas, Vlastimil (referee)
This thesis focuses on the topic of Media Representation of Politicians in the News Reporting of TV Nova (with a focus on ČSSD congresses and ODS congresses in 1995-2017) as well as the form of political reporting on the most popular commercial TV in the Czech Republic. Specifically, it aims to introduce how TV Nova changed their approach to prime time news reporting on political events and congresses of traditional Czech political parties - ČSSD a ODS in the period from 1995 to 2017. The thesis is based on the assumption that TV Nova is inherently focused on entertainment and, in terms of reporting, truly political topics are not crucial, nor they are at the centre stage for a typical viewer of TV Nova. Despite this fact, this type of report was not marginalised in the news programme - TV News. In relation to the parliamentary elections in the Czech Republic in autumn 2017 as well as the presidential elections at the beginning of 2018 it is possible to notice a glimpse of an increased inclusion of politically orientated reports in the form of unprecedented continual election broadcast by TV Nova. This thesis observes changes that have occurred in relation to referring to general political topics on TV Nova in the period from the start of its broadcasting to the present time. The presented results...
