New synagogue Teplice

The subject of this diploma project was to design an architectural proposal of The New Synagogue and Jewish Community Centre in Teplice, Czech Republic. The main goal was to design a complex of buildings which would be used not only for the worships but also for cultural and educational purposes. The proposal consists of the design of 3 buildings connected to each other by a cen-tral courtyard. The form is based on the traditional values set into contemporary de-sign shaped by demands of current generations. One of the main design elements - the beam structure above the courtyard implies a symbol of The Star of David as the symbol of Judaism as we know today. The building of New Synagogue represents the first, three storey building on the north part of plot. The second, east part, is building consisting of cultural centre, info centre, museum, gallery and spaces for workshops with it's technical and sanitary facilities. A Kosher Restaurant will be located into the third and last two-storey building. An undeground parking will be used by the staff and visitors of the whole complex.

Architectural study of the sacral object Brno - Líšeň / second stage

The main theme of the diploma is the design of a new Roman Catholic church and parish within the framework of the construction of a panel residential complex in Nový Líšeň in Brno. Due to the fact that Salesian children and youth workers came to the area in 1990, it became necessary to build a church and a Salesian youth center. This proposal is based on an analysis of the urban context. The church is surrounded by prefabricated houses next to a school, a health clinic, a shopping center, and a Salesian youth center in a gently sloping area facing south with the dominant Palava hills.

Chosen Aspects of Light in Sacred Architecture

Different approaches to the light is emblematic reflection of the current era and it´s cultural a social aspects. The materials are still being developped but the light is everlasting participant of the architecture. The light is basic element which each architect or artist must confront and use it. Due to this we can watch the work with light, analyse it´s use during the ages of the sacred architecture. The work of an architect is situated in the intersection of theoretic and technical fields of human activities. It´s necessary that the artist or architect knows the theoretic aspects of the light but also that knows real numeral values of the coming light. It is good to know the reasons why and for what was the light used in the past and it´s also needed to have a knowledge how much of the light was used in the liturgical space. How much of the light was used in the interior in the past and how much do we use it nowadays? Is it possible to analyse the tendency in the use of the natural light? These questions are useful in forming new liturgical spaces also in nowadays. The first part of this work is focused on the theoretic aspects of the light (liturgy, theology, psychology and ergonomics). The second part of the work describes the measurements of the intensity of the natural light in the sacred spaces in the different selected churches. The conclusion compares different measured values in each sacred building and the results are included to the larger scientific and historical context. The aim of this work was to evaluate specific interior lightning conditions by unified methodology and to apply it on the larger scientific experience which regards the architectonical practice and the forming of the liturgical spaces.

Architect Jaroslav Čermák and his relation to sacred architecture on the example of the Church of Saint John of Nepomuk in Prague - Košíře

The diploma thesis " Architect Jaroslav Čermák and his relation to sacred architecture on the example of the Church of Saint John of Nepomuk in Prague - Košíře" in its first part presents the cultural-historical context of the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century in the Czech lands. It also deals with the work of Czech architects in the first half of the 20th century and the issue of sacral architecture. Subsequently, the hitherto minimally known biography of Jaroslav Čermák and his work is reconstructed in the context of the time. Čermák's work is described primarily on the example of the construction of the church of Saint John of Nepomuk in Prague-Košíře, which is subjected to a thorough analysis and interpretation of the means of expression, that where used. The urban context is also observed. The thesis elaborates with the reasons for the need to establish a new church in Košíře and with dificulities, that came during the construction of the church, which was affected by the Second World War and the coup in February 1948 in Czechoslovakia. Part of the work is a pictorial supplement, which is primarily related to the construction of the building and the current state of the church of Saint John of Nepomuk.

The church of Saint Martin in Bernartice. Its building history and typology.

The church of St Martin in Bernartice in South Bohemia is one of the oldest buildings in the area. Despite the assumption that the origins of the church lies in the activity of Milevsko workshop, attempts to determine the time of its construction more accurately have so far been unsuccessful. The aim of this bachelor thesis is presenting a detailed description of the construction history and analysing the architectural elements in order to confirm the Milevsko workshop's activity in the construction process. Historicism in Prague sacral architecture around the year 1600

(in English): This essay tries to, on numerous selected examples, introducted from a wider European context, through specific tasks of Czech architecture to a list of building activity in Prague, general and specific features of religious buildings of the early modern period, depict the overall image and grasp the character of period architectural production, tied with displays of historicism. Historisms follow directly the late Gothic, from which these integrally emerge, and then appear continuously, as a specific stylish modus, represented chiefly by conserved Gothic forms in premises with liturgical function, parallelly to generally prevalent style (Renaissance, Mannerism, Baroque), up to the 18th century. Therefore, yet a moment and a manner of reception of the Reneaissance behind the Alps, with which relates affirmation of character of sacred architecture is observed. Further are discussed particular potentialities of their ideological substantiation and artistic conception. Finally an attempt is made to elucidate their relation with Mannerism, in which context quantitative and qualitative rise of historicism occured, especially the gothicizing.
