Ruffer-Lustigová, Petra ; Ondřej, Jan (advisor) ; Šturma, Pavel (referee) ; Karásek, Tomáš (referee)
This study seeks to explore the phenomenon of different approaches European security organizations (EU, NATO and OSCE) apply in conflict prevention and conflict management, as well as the tools they use in the framework of security governance. The purpose of exploring this issue is to understand why states tend to collaborate through international organizations, what is the role of a hegemon, in what way organizations execute delegated powers, whether the institutional design of international organizations can influence its effectivity, and last but not least, how important are shared values in the process of regional cooperation. Qualitative approach aiming at understanding the causes and their interpretation was picked out to draw relevant conclusions to be later compared with theoretical approaches of constructivism, institutionalism the hegemonic stability theory. A case study approach is used at the methodological level to explore the influence hegemon has (or precisely two hegemons) over the functions of OSCE; the role of shared values in promoting a zone of peace and stability beyond the region borders (European Neighbourhood Policy); or the ability of international institutions to independently act on behalf of member states in line with (or even against) their interests. Bachelor thesis The peacekeeping partnership between the UN and a regional organisation: case of cooperation between UN peacekeeping operation UNOMIG and CIS peacekeeping operation CISPKF Anna Fošumpaurová Abstract The thesis deals with the United Nations' peacekeeping operations. Particular focus is dedicated to cooperation between the UN and regional organisations and what potential benefits and limitations this cooperation offers to peacekeeping. Human rights dialogue between regional organisations: case study EU-ASEAN
Boháčová, Zuzana ; Váška, Jan (advisor) ; Šlosarčík, Ivo (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with human rights dialogue between European Union and Association of South East Asian Nations. It approaches the subject in the context of interregionalism and it aims to answer the question of whether a different membership concept in these regional organisations presents an obstacle to mutual human rights dialogue. While the values of human rights and democracy are a prerequisite for membership in the EU and also a part of its identity, ASEAN does not require any such conditions from its members. There is also a difference in the concept of national sovereignty or the process of socialisation of member states in these organisations. By describing specific examples of East Timor and Myanmar, the paper shows different reactions of EU and ASEAN to human rights violations in these countries. Furthermore, by analysing joint documents from the ASEAN-EU ministerial meetings, the thesis recapitulates the course of human rights dialogue between the organisations from the 1990s to the present day and shows the disagreements that have occurred during this period. The thesis then concludes that the human rights dialogue did not make a significant progress during this period also due to a fundamentally different membership concept in these regional organisations.
A Comparative Analysis of South American Integration: Cases of CAN and UNASUR
Husáková, Gabriela ; Kučerová, Irah (advisor) ; Karlas, Jan (referee)
This thesis deals with the issue of different efficiency between two integrational organizations in Latin America: Andean Community, and Union of South American Nations, by using neoliberal theory of international relations to examine he causes as to why the Andean Community is more efficient than the Union of South American Nations. First, the theoretical definition of neoliberal theory and the concept of cooperation problems are discussed. Then, follow chapters describing integration in Latin America, in general with all its characteristics, and a chapter describing history and basic institutional settings of the two organizations. In the practical part, each cooperation problem is either applied to the organizations and a relation between these problems and institutional setting, number of member states, and homogeneity between member states is examined. In the conclusion, the all three cooperational problems are brought together to determine, whether the main cause of different efficiency is the institutional setting and number of member states, or the homogeneity between members.

One of the mechanism how to prevent the spread of the conflict is the system of multilateral cooperation. Peacekeeping operations are one of the instruments for conflict settlement. Beside the system of United Nations in past years occurs another structure that could be used for peacekeeping missions. For example we can use regional organizations. Many literatures is focused on UN system and its work, fewer of them are concerning the fact of regional organization and just few of them are related to the factor of cooperation between UN and regional organizations. This is the vacancy these papers want to address. Cooperation is the main factor studying in this thesis. To be able to analyze the factor of cooperation we have to take in consideration several different fields of international relations. First of all it is the theory of international relations.
