Title: Success of Evasive Maneuvers in Women's Sevens Rugby Players Objectives: This study aimed to analyse the effectiveness of evasive maneuvers within the gameplay context during women's sevens rugby matches Methods: The research analysed women's rugby sevens matches, focusing on evasive manoeuvres such as side steps, swerves, fake passes, quick acceleration and deceleration, hitch kicks, ducking, and spine moves. We established a scale to measure the success of evasive manoeuvres, taking into account their impact on the game Results: The most frequently used evasive manoeuvre was the side step, followed by the swerve and quick acceleration and deceleration. The cut-back manoeuvre was most associated with overcoming defenders. The ducking manoeuvre was most frequently linked to tackles, exhibiting the highest scoring potential. The hitchkick manoeuvre was associated with the most significant loss Keywords: rugby; agility; decision making; evasive maneuvers

Možnost fyzioterapie u funkčních poruch pohybového aparátu ragbistů
MARTINIAK, Martin
My bachelor's thesis deals with the subject of functional disorders of the musculoskeletal system in a selected group of rugby players and the ensuing options to alleviate or eliminate these disorders, especially using compensatory exercises. The first goal of the bachelor's thesis is to identify which muscle imbalances and musculoskeletal disorders occur in rugby players, while the second goal was to suggest compensatory exercises for these muscle imbalances in the selected group of players. The thesis is divided into two parts - theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part I describe rugby, the rules of rugby and the workload of players during a match. Then I describe the issues of functional disorders and muscle imbalances, followed by the role of physiotherapy in rugby, where I discuss the most common injuries, selected examination and therapeutic methods and compensatory exercises. The practical part is based on qualitative research of three players of the RLC Orli Havlíčkův Brod team. The research started with medical history and initial kinesiological analysis consisting of various examinations to identify shortened and weakened muscles and to detect general movement insufficiency; I summarized the results of the investigation in case reports. On the basis of these examinations I designed compensatory exercises to alleviate or eliminate these problems. The subjects went through the designed exercise module under my supervision once a week for three months - before and after each rugby practice, which they had twice a week. They were also given the option of voluntary individual exercise at home. The results of this thesis show that rugby generates certain muscle imbalances that affect most players, especially in the lower half of the body where functional disorders are the greatest. My objective was to educate players as well as coaches in the subject of muscle imbalance. This thesis could serve as a reference and educational material providing orientation in this area both for professionals and the general public.

The research also showed that researched events didn't have the impact for the knowledge about Czech rugby or women's rugby. Keywords: Rugby World Cup, Summer Olympic Games, rugby, awarness
The effect of shoulder girdle stabilization exercises on muscle activity during direct impact in rugby players with subacromial impingement syndrome
Chytilová, Martina ; Šťastný, Petr (advisor) ; Satrapová, Lenka (referee)
Title: The effect of shoulder girdle stabilization exercises on muscle activity during direct impact in rugby players with sub-acromial impingement syndrome Objectives: Comparison of muscle activity during direct impact while performing the rugby tackle to tackle bag and to player using amplitude analysis of electromyographic signal (EMG) before and after intervention programme for players with subacromial impingement syndrome (SIS). Application of intervention programme consisting stabilization excercises for shoulder complex and activation of deep stabilization muscles of the spine. Methods: Theoretical part contains topics about shoulder girdle, rugby and rugby injuries, mainly subacromial impingement syndrome and electromyography. Mentioned issues are included into the thesis due to the research of current literature from international sources and studies. Practical part regards the aplication of three- months long intervention programme for eight rugby players at junior national level with diagnosis of SIS, when pre-testing a post-testing is realized by clinical tests and EMG measurement. Results: Intervention programme was sufficient for changes of EMG amplitude values expressed as percentage of maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC) in some of rugby players with SIS only for some...

Title: The issue of players' rugby injuries in the Czech Republic. It also determine the frequency of various injuries, duration of treatment and the search for connections with the players position on the field, injuries and game situations. Method: Information was obtained by nonstandardized questionnaire survey of rugby players by all new eight (previously ten) extra league senior teams in the Czech Republic. A total of 133 questionnaires were analyzed. For the analysis of the data obtained was used software Microsoft Excel 2007. Players of scrum most suffered lacerations, but attackers and scrumhalves/flyhalves injury of the head/brain. The overall average duration of treatment was 6.6 weeks. According to various positions: attackers 8 weeks, players of scrum 6.1 weeks and scrumhalf/flyhalf 5.4 weeks. The most injuries occur during defensive tackling (43%) and attacking (31%). Most injuries according to anatomical structure were on head...

Author: Olga Šťastná Institution: Department of Rehabilitation Medicine the Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové Title: Importance of the compensation practice at rugby players Supervisor: Mgr. Ondřej Němeček Pages: 96 Inserts: 4 The year of presentation: 2013 Keywords: Compensation practice, rugby, prevention, injury, physical imbalance The aim of the bachelor work is to evaluate the importance and the effect of compensation exercises on the musculoskeletal system of rugby players. The task is to select suitable compensation exercises and integrate them into the training program. The compensation exercises are designed to eliminate or improve defects of movement stereotypes and prevent injuries. The rugby players were chosen for this experiment according to their playing positions on the playing field. Each player worked to a personal exercise plan based on the results of the kinesiological analysis. After four months follow-up examination, collection of data and data processing were performed.

A Comparison of Somatotype between Female Rugby Union Forwards and Backs
Vacková, Petra ; Vokounová, Šárka (advisor) ; Kinkorová, Ivana (referee)
Title: A Comparison of Somatotype between Female Rugby Union Forwards and Backs Objectives: To compare differences and similarities of somatotype between female forwards and backs of the Czech Rugby Union. Method: A total number of 30 elite female rugby players participated in this study. Somatic measurements necessary to specify one's somatotype and Heath- Carter method were used on all subjects. All collected data was analysed in Microsoft Excel spreadsheets with results demonstrated using bar charts, tables and somatographs. Results: No significant differences were found between selected groups. Mesomorphy was found to have the highest value in both groups followed by the endomorphic and ectomorphic component. The endomorphic and mesomorphic component was found to be higher in forwards, however the value of ectomorphy was slightly higher in backs. In comparison with research of Welsh female rugby players, mean somatotype of this study was more comparable to the elite group of players. Keywords: somatotype, Rugby Union, forwards, backs
