Content analysis of Twitter comments towards selected male and female candidates in the 2023 presidential election
Millková, Tereza ; Svobodová, Tereza (advisor) ; Dvořák, Tomáš (referee)
This bachelor's thesis analyzes Twitter comments under the posts of three selected candidates during the 2023 presidential election. The goal is to map whether there are differences between emotions, gender stereotypes, or topics towards a particular candidate's gender, and whether these variables change reflecting the gender of Twitter users. Thematic content analysis is chosen as the research method. Data are manually collected on the Twitter platform for candidate posts. Three dates during the last month before the first round of elections are chosen for data collection. A coding method is further used for the analysis of the collected data. The results respond to six pre-selected hypotheses. The analysis is divided into three parts - a message emotion, gender aspect and progress in time. In the first part, it is shown that more comments with negative sentiment are aimed towards the female candidate, and it does not matter whether the comment is written by an anonymous or non-anonymous user. In the second part, it is confirmed that more comments with a gender aspect are aimed towards the female candidate, and they are mostly focused on appearance. In contrast, for the male candidate, gender stereotype allusions to ability and sexual innuendo are the most common themes. The last section of the...
Social networks as primary information source during presidential elections - comparison between USA and Czech republic
Social Media and Gender in Political Campaigns: The Role of Candidate's Spouses in the Czech Republic
Gejdošová, Iva ; Soukeník, Štěpán (advisor) ; Švec, Kamil (referee)
This bachelor thesis titled 'Social Media and Gender in Political Campaigns: The Role of Candidate's Spouses in the Czech Republic' is an exploratory work which analyses how potential first ladies were portrayed on Facebook whilst their husbands, candidates in the 2018 Czech presidential election, ran their official campaigns. The objective was to uncover the role assigned to female spouses during the campaigns, how the women were constrained by traditionally feminine roles and to whom is their presence affecting. This thesis utilises the method of content analysis, which is employed not only as a mere data gathering tool to detect the textual side of posts, but also applied visually. A coding instrument which used Goffman's (1979) Gender displays was employed to detect the visual frames of the First lady. The textual portion of Facebook communication was sorted based on the mentioning of a spouse and then further examined using a coding sheet consisting of a total of 13 variables. By analysing Facebook posts published by each candidate during the official campaign, the thesis aims to depict how potential first ladies were depicted in traditional female roles, constrained by norms, and with no further role in the political process. The practical assessment of the paper crucially demonstrates the...

Douděrová, Lucie ; Váňa, Tomáš (advisor) ; Just, Petr (referee)
The bachelor thesis Election strategy of candidates in Czech presidential campaign 2012/2013 - comparison of party and non-party candidates assesses the election campaign before the first direct vote presidential elections in the Czech Republic in 2013 with regards to the party classification of the candidates. The thesis consists of descriptive analysis of each campaign according to Dariusz Skrzypiński's criteria and a comparison of those criteria (communication strategy, financial strategy and strategy of relations between candidates) within the party and the non-party candidate campaigns. The assumptions verified in this thesis focus on both party and non-party candidates, advantages and disadvantages of their strategies and their comparison.
Public Opinion on the presidential candidates
Tabery, Paulína
In its regular survey in January 2008 the Public Opinion Research Centre focused on the questions about the presidential candidates Vaclav Klaus and Jan Svejnar. The task for informants was to present their attitude to each candidate separately from the other one. Support for both of the candidates is at the same level: 42 % of Czechs would like to see Vaclav Klaus as the president of the Czech Republic, the same rate would like to see Jan Svejnar.
