Mission, calling, service and their place in nursing
JEHLÍKOVÁ, Aneta
This diploma thesis is concerned with defining the terms of mission, calling, service, and searching for connections between them and nursing. In the theoretical part, we try to search for these terms and determine their meanings through historical and current literature. The empirical part of the thesis is based on qualitative research. Semi structured interviews were conducted with six medical high school students of the practical nurse program, with five university students of the general nurse program, with general nurses that were divided into two groups: those who had finished the medical school before 2004, and those who were studying the medical high school as medical assistants. The last groups for interviews were members of the Sisters of Mercy congregation of St. Borromeo. The main aim of the thesis is to find out how terms of mission, calling, and service are imagined by nurses, how these terms manifest themselves in today's nursing, and how actual they are in nursing today. Answers to these research questions arise from experience of general nurses, as well as students, and reflect their views on the research terms of mission, calling, and service. Empirical inquiry reveals that general nurses and students have a good idea of what terms of mission, calling, and service are. Among descriptions of these terms, the answers of the Sisters of Mercy of St. Borromeo are the most differentiated. General nurses divert from the profession as defined by Florence Nightingale, and they still attribute nurses the same virtues as she was imagining. Today, in nursing, the researched terms mission, calling, and service appear at least in the meaning we elaborate on here and have an archaic impression. Instead of these terms, words such as empathy or compassion are being used in today's nursing, and these words are attributed to a flawless general nurse by students and general nurses. General nurses and students agree that the researched terms perish in today's nursing, yet they still perceive that a general nurse should consider her profession as a mission, and all but three informants consider their current or future profession as a mission.

Tichá, Františka ; Kolář, Pavel (advisor) ; Veverková, Kamila (referee)
SOCIÁLNÍ ČINNOST NÁBOŽENSKÝCH OBCÍ ( CČS) OD JEJÍHO VZNIKU DO PADESATÝCH LET 20. STOLETÍ PARISH SOCIAL WORKS IN THE CZECHOSLOVAK CHURCH FROM 1920 - 1955 Autor: Františka Tichá In this work, I pursued the parish social works in the Czechoslovak church from its rise to 1950's. I partially captured an origin of the roots of the Christian church's social works in chapter two. Chapter three describes the rise of the Czechoslovak church and its social works development. The views of some of the Czechoslovak church's theologians on social concerns are captured in chapter four. Chapter five analyzes the social works in three selected parishes. In chapter six, I explained how the Czechoslovak church's teachings were implemented in parishes. Chapter seven discusses the downfall of the social works within the Czechoslovak church after February 1948. In conclusion, I have arrived at an opinion that the social works unions laid out an admirable effort in this field. It is unfortunate that due to the political changes in 1948 the social works unions had to undergo a liquidation.

Nováková, Zuzana ; Vrzáček, Petr (advisor) ; Suchel, Jakub (referee)

The work is closely focused on the area related to non-profit organizations that provide social services for the target group of seniors. In the theoretical part is mission defined by recognized standards of quality of social services and from the perspective of literature. Furthermore I view it in the context of the needs and size of the target group and social demand backing group organization. Subsequent chapters are devoted to the topic of mission in context of strategic planning, fundraising, public relations and ultimately organization culture. In the empirical part I present the implementation of qualitative research. The research was conducted using a case study approach in two registered organizations providing social services to seniors. The aim was to answer the research question: How do perceive the mission of organization its employees? Research was conducted through semi- structured interviews methods. The result is the following statement, which is valid for both cases: All employees are able to interpret the mission of their organization through their own values and experiences. Whether the employee's mission is shared or not shared, or employees consider it to be part of a formal, is...
Collaboration and competition among nonprofit organizations working with migrants in Prague.
Pračke, Šimon ; Navrátil, Jiří (advisor) ; Muhič Dizdarevič, Selma (referee)
This thesis is focused on the relations of competition and cooperation between non-governmental non-profit organizations working with migrants in Prague. Based on interviews with representatives of these organizations and the study of documents, this thesis shows that classical theoretical approaches that deal with interorganizational relationships generally, i.e. those of profitable organizations in the market environment, ignore the specificity of non-profit organizations. Unlike profitable organizations, non-profit organizations primarily do not aim at profit but rather at the mission they were founded for. Classical theories do not reflect this dimension at all. The non-profit organizations working with migrants in Prague not only cooperate but this cooperation is motivated especially by their mission, although they are situated in a highly competitive position because they are situated in the same area, work with the same clients, offer similar services to these clients and are financed from the same sources. Keywords Collaboration, cooperation, competition, co-opetition, inter-organizational relationships, non-governmental non-profit organization, mission, identity
