Monuments of the Great War in the district Kutná Hora.

The master thesis covers the topic of memorials of the victims of the Great War in the district of Kutná Hora. History of the memorials since their unveiling to the present day will also be taken into account. The differences in the memorials (e.g. in iconography) men in k.u.k. army and in the legions, will be researched. As one of the district's cities, Čáslav, was also the resident city of the 12th landwehr and the 21st infantry regiment of the k. u. k. army, the thesis has the ambition to find out, whether there was any sign of it in the memorials around the city.
Monument as the materialization of memory in relation to the current generation and the role of the media

The thesis "Monument as the materialization of memory in relation to the current generation and the role of the media" is devoted to the analysis of media discourse of contemporary memorials. The discourse of contemporary memorials is represented in the thesis by media coverage in the Czech periodical printed media regarding to two memorials installed in the Czech Republic. The first is a monument of General Patton in Pilsen and the second is a monument of the Czechoslovak RAF aviators in Prague - Klárov. Examined media coverage related to memorial scandal in Deník VLP, Mladá fronta DNES, Lidové noviny, Blesk, Metro, Haló noviny and Právo belong to the years: 2005, 2009, 2010, 2014 and 2015. The form of contemporary memorial discourse was examined with the help of multiple methods including quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis represented by textual and argumentative analysis. Based on the combination of the mentioned methods basic form of the discourse of contemporary memorials was described with the main focus on media communication containing the topic of foreign affairs and the concept of memory. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to give an integrated statement development of monument of Frantisek Palacky in Prague, which is a piece of one of the leading representatives of Art Nouveau sculpture Stanislav Sucharda and architect Alois Dryák. Attention will be given a public competition that preceded the whole project, the importance of choosing a place for a monument, process Sucharda's creation, the role of the architect and finally the period responses to the entire work.
The Culture of Memory: The Destiny od Lidice Memorial

This Bachelor work, dealing with a topic of Culture of Memory: The Destiny of Lidice Memorial, discusses primarily history of the Memorial built in the area of Lidice tragedy and declining visit rate as well as public interest in this sacred place after 1989. That is divided into four explanation captures. The introduction pays attention to general characterization and history of memorials and monuments, focused on their function and utilization. The second part commemorates history, the act of Lidice destruction in June 1942 itself, including other fates of Lidice inhabitants and also international acclaim caused by that unprecedented Nazi crime. That handles with 10th June 1942 in Lidice, shooting of men, abducting of women and children to Kladno Grammar School and following transport to concentration camps. This chapter further it describes the destiny of Lidice with its survivors after the Second World War. The international reaction immediately after the burning down, gained from those local media sources, belongs to this second part too. The third part devotes to proper history and story of the Memorial. in English The Monument of the "Benes Letters"? (The Statue of the President Benes in Prague as a "Place of Memory") This dissertation shows the gallery of various moods of recollections the Czech politician Edvard Beneš (1884−1948) during the years 2002−2005, it means around the great easterly enlargement of the European Union. In these period many controversies were led internationally and bilaterally about the "Benes Letters" and about the displacement of Germans after the WW2, in the Czech Republic about the issue "Benes and communism", too. The introduction sketches the theoretical and methodological starting points of this dissertation, and then recapitulates the European context of the problems and the structure of this study. The second chapter looks into the research of E. Benes in the milieu of the Czech pro- Benes contemporary witnesses of him and their organizations, characterizes their narrative and shows their activities, which were done in direction to the celebration of this hero. Formation of the south bohemian memory in the conception by F. M. Čapek

This work is a contribution to the concept of memory location in the Czech historiography. The main person is František Miroslav Čapek, native from a little town Lišov, near České Budějovice, which dedicated most of his life for research on the South Bohemian history. During his life he wrote several books, but also he done many deeds, which he memorized the South Bohemian people. This work was written on the basis studying of the professional literature, personal fond by F. M. Čapek and especially a book production by this amateur historian. This work is devided, among the introduction and the end, to three chapters. The first chapter is explaining the most important terms and concepts, the second one introduces life F. M. Čapek and the third, finaly part, focused on the analysis concepts his memory, especially in book production and performed deeds.
The art patronage as a tool of representation of the Zátka family in České Budějovice

The diploma thesis maps the activity of the Zátka family, a significant family from České Budějovice, in the cultural sphere. A view on atmosphere of 19th century and the beginning of 20th century will be presented via selected members of this family (Hynek, August and Vlastislav Zátka). The roots of their extended family will be summarized with emphasis on their role as founders and patrons in founding particular Czech organizations, companies and associations. The first part focuses on Zátkas' impulses and activities in cultural, political and economic sphere. The second part is dedicated to various family monuments, for example buildings (family mansions), statues or collecting activities.
