Assessment for selection and development of employees: Competency model for entry-level salespeople in services

This thesis focuses on the proper use of various assessment methods for selection and development of employees in various positions within an organization. The selection and use of assessment methods have been tailored to practical requirements for each position in the organization with regard to their specificities. This current thesis elaborates on the assessment for technical, administrative, managerial jobs with special emphasis being put on the assessment for sales positions. Within the strategic assessment programmes the thesis deals with assessing the potential of individuals and the prediction of future behavior which is of great importance for the organization's future success. An Integrated Model of Potencial is specifically mentioned in this chapter and its practical use is suggested. In the second, empirical part of the thesis an attempt has been made to create a specific competency model for entry-level services salespeople and proposals for its practical use have been outlined. New employee adaptation in a banking institution

(in English): The topic of the thesis is submitted, as an adaptation of a new employee in the organization. Introducing the topic within its complexity, showing his particular aspects of psychophysiology, mainly psychological resilience, and the influence to stress. Works on maps of the current possibilities and knowledge relating to the adaptation of the work. Specific attention is applied to the adaptation of the organizational culture. Aim of the empirical part of the thesis is to analyze employee orientation program of the specific banking company, its organizational culture and the specific position to organize the adjusting options, further improvements to the existing program. To this end, we have used variety of wide methods, mainly the qualitative nature of its character.
Psychological testing in personnel psychology: competency-based selection of hospitality leaders

This thesis deals with one of the most debated topics of the Personnel Psychology - the personnel selection. The aim of the thesis is to provide an exhaustive overview of the designing process of the selection procedures with special attention being paid to the various methods of selecting employees. Attention was primarily paid to the effort that the knowledge of the otherwise common methods of selecting employees be put in the new framework and the latest ways of their application. Particular emphasis has been put upon the new approaches to the method of interview, cognitive abilities testing, detection of individual personality at work and new methods in designing assessment centers. An interesting chapter is the use of emotional factors as selection criteria and the application of the attachment theory to work. Considerable extent of the thesis is also devoted to the methods of job analysis and competency modeling, their comparison and applications. Based on the previous theoretical treatise the empirical part attempts at creating a competency model for senior executives in the hotel industry and proposes possible ways of its practical use.
Interpersonal Check List as a Tool for Assessing Managerial Potential

The aim of this paper is to verify the applicability of Interpersonal Check List for assessing managerial potential, namely leadership potential. The findings of leadership research are summarized and applicability of Interpersonal Check List is theoretically discussed. Available methods for assessing leadership potential are presented, namely personality inventories and Assessment centre methods. Three data sources including 888 respondents in total are used for the analysis. Empirical tests show that employees in leadership positions score higher in several dimensions of Interpersonal Check List, particularly in managerial - autocratic, competitive - exploitive and blunt - aggresive dimensions. The discussion of these findings leads to the conclusion that the mentioned dimensions could be considered as indicators of leadership potential. Rigorózní práce v teoretické části pracovně vymezuje pojem personální psychologie, neboť cílem práce je identifikovat roli a uplatnění personální psychologie v oblasti výběru pracovníků a v oblasti zprostředkování zaměstnání. Na základě vymezení p ojmu personálního výběru jako komplexního procesu a diferenciace druhů personálního výběru identifikuje potenciální roli personální psychologie v procesu výběru pracovníka. Současně na základě vymezení pojmu zprostředkování pracovního uplatnění, určení fun kce, možností a limitů Úřadu práce a vymezení pojmu Bilanční diagnostika jako komplexního poradenského systému uplatňovaném mj. v praxi Úřadu práce identifikuje potenciální roli personální psychologie v procesu zprostředkování zaměstnání. Empirická část má charakter mapující deskriptivní studie. Psychological aspects of employment mediation process and employee selection

Theoretical part of this thesis establishes a working definition of the term Personnel psychology, since the goal of this thesis is to identify the application of personnel psychology in the fields of employee selection and employment agency. It defines employee selection as a complex process and differentiates its various kinds, to examine the potential role of personnel psychology in it. At the same ti me, it defines the term employment agency, determines function, possibilities and limitation s of Labour Office of the Czech Republic and defines "Bilanční diagnostika" (comprehensive career guidance and counselling method ) as a complex advisory system used in th e Labour Office. It shares these findings to examine the potential role of personnel psychology in the process of an employment agency. Empirical part maintains the character of a descriptive research. Its goal is to describe the involvement of personnel psychology in current practices of personnel agencies and HR segments of companies. It also examines the operations of employment agents from the Labout Office and involvement of personnel psychology in these activities. Assessment centers and their prediktive validity

This thesis is devoted to the method of assessment centres and their predictive validity. The theoretical part is focused on the history and development of assessment centres, their design, course, participants, description of the most commonly used techniques, possible uses, advantages and disadvantages of this method. A separate chapter deals with their validity and methods of measuring validity in assessment centres. In addition, this section analyses related topics - adaptation of employees and employee turnover. The empirical part focuses on describing and measuring the degree of predictive validity of an assessment centre, which have been used between years 2010 and 2012 by an unnamed insurance company for employee selection for a position Insurance Consultant. In this part of the thesis, the conducted research is characterized. The results showed that the predictive validity of assessment centres used in the organization was 0.20 - but this result was not found to be statistically significant. At the end there is the discussion about possible factors that might have influenced the research and consideration of the possibilities of increasing this assessment centre's validity.
