Without a trace
Pfann, Martin ; Babáková, Bernardeta (referee) ; Klímová, Barbora (advisor)
Without a trace explores the possibilities of working with the so-called memory of landscape, which I understand as a certain open, ongoing and changing composition of narratives, motifs, people and objects of different origins and different natures. These components and sources of memory all relate to the period of World War II and in particular to the theme of anti-fascist partisan resistance. The resulting intermedia work was preceded by field research, during which I gathered a wealth of material on the subject that led me to create a kind of alternative cartography. The map and the educational trail through the landscape of Vysočina, supported by text in the form of an audioguide, are the formats of the resulting work and an attempt to break away from the great simplistic narratives of war, partisans and resistance. They focus on the small stories of the actors of the resistance, not only Czech and Soviet partisans and refugees, but also local residents. The resulting format guides the user through the physical landscape and connects it to different interpretations of its history. My own version of the landscape memory is admittedly also influenced by my personal experiences from my childhood in Vysočina.
"Not in our name": The Melilla Tragedy as a case study of partisan media coverage of migration in the Spanish southern border
Vidal Rico, Marina ; Neag, Annamária (advisor) ; Macková, Veronika (referee)
The term "Melilla tragedy" is usually used to refer to the events of the 24th of June 2022, when the attempted crossing to the Spanish side of the Melilla border by a group of around 2.000 Sub-Saharan migrants resulted in at least 25 deaths. Hoping to contribute to the understanding of the coverage of migration in polarized media environments, the present study looks at articles focused on these events published by Spanish national media across the political spectrum. Through a Multimodal Critical Discourse Analysis approach, 16 opinion pieces published by El País, El Mundo, El Confidencial, and elDiario.es were critically examined in search of relevant conclusions on the influence of media partisanship in the media's reporting on the Southern border, and differences between the short and long-term reporting on the events. Results of this analysis point to ideology-based differences in the portrayal of migrants and the border and an overall tendency to talk about migration from a political standpoint, even more so in the long term.

Exploring the Impact of Brexit on European Capital Markets and Tax Policies: A Comparative Analysis of Tax Reforms in European Countries
Yuan, Dian ; Svoboda, Karel (advisor) ; Bruno, Randolph Luca (referee) ; Váška, Jan (referee)
From the United Kingdom's Brexit on June 23, 2016, to the formal Brexit on January 30, 2020, there has been a large amount of academic literature discussing the possible effects of Brexit. Among them, the literature on the impact of Brexit on tax policy reforms and capital markets in EU countries is too numerous to enumerate. However, the current research literature lacks a discussion of Central and Eastern European countries, and there is even less research on the link between capital markets and tax policy reforms. This article assumes that the impact of Brexit on the capital markets of CEE countries will cause the government to turn to tax increases to increase fiscal revenue. Three hypotheses are proposed under this assumption. In addition, the empirical research in this article uses the combination of the Poisson model and the Heckman selection model to conduct regression research on the overall taxation of CEE countries, changes in direct and indirect taxation tax policies and bond interest rates, government changes, and political parties left or right. It is concluded that Brexit has no significant impact on the capital markets of CEE countries, and has not caused enough shocks that the government will turn to the government to increase revenue by issuing more tax increases. And Brexit...

CHARLES UNIVERSITY FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES Institute of Political Studies Department of Political Science U.S. Congress Oversight Power - ABSTRACT Bachelor's Thesis Author of the Thesis: František Červinka Study programme: Political Science and International Relations Supervisor: PhDr. Věra Kotábová Year of the defence: 2021 Abstract This Bachelor thesis deals with the implied power of U.S. Congress to conduct oversight. With the exception of the impeachment process that is defined in Article I, the U.S. Constitution does not explicitly state what oversight is and how is it to be administered, thus the goal of this thesis is to explore the theoretical background surrounding oversight, its genesis, techniques, processes, and tools. Focus is given to pertinent Supreme Court rulings, as well as specific mechanisms of oversight, with deeper dive into investigative oversight. Data-based approach in the second part then examines and compares the number of hearings held in Congress in the past 12 years. The aim is to determine if there is a correlation between the level of congressional oversight activity, partisan majority, and the President's party affiliation and what might be some observable trends in the researched period. The conclusion is that while both parties exhibit on average the same level of...

Prague's football clubs playing the first czech league 2011/2012 and their image in national newspapers
Hejbal, Dominik ; Halada, Jan (advisor) ; Kraus, Jiří (referee)
The paper focuses on the image of Prague First League (Gabrinus) football clubs in Czech national dailies. The season of 2011/12 is surveyed, during which there were five Prague clubs in the First League, which was an unusually high count. Traditional contenders such as AC Sparta Praha and SK Slavia Praha were included, as well as Bohemians 1905 and the newcomers FK Dukla Praha and FK Viktoria Zizkov, both of which advanced from the Second Football League. The followed dailies are Sport (the only Czech sports daily), Hospodarske noviny, Lidove noviny, Mlada fronta DNES and Pravo, four general dailies with sports supplement. By using both quantitative and qualitative methods, the paper examines which events in Prague football clubs were assigned most space. Furthermore, the way the events are addressed is examined, as well as the clubs mostly reported by individual writers - whether there is dependence between number of fans and the space assigned to particular clubs. The following chapters seek the answer to the question if Czech dailies in the effort to aim at increasing readers' interest prefer clubs with more fans. We also study whether positive or negative events are more followed, or if success or failure is emphasized.
