Simulation of renovation of block-of-flats building with a focus on gaining an international certificate for building construction

The aim of this diploma thesis is to revitalize the selected type of panel house in the selected locality in order to meet the standards of international certification for the design and sustainable construction of buildings. First, the thesis analyzes the chronological development of the panel housing estates in Brno and compares the individual structural systems that were historically used for panel construction in Brno. Furthermore, the most used certification methodologies are compared and a specific certification is selected for next simulation. The chapter called solution is focused on performing a simulated certification process for design and sustainable construction of selected panel building, in three phases of its revitalization. The hypotheses describing the individual phases of revitalization are intended to confirm or disprove the achievement of this objective, moreover to say the extent of revitalization that has to be done in order to achieve our goals.

Changes and growth of a small town in time of normalization - the example of Benešov u Prahy

The thesis deals with the transformation of Benešov u Prahy from a backward town with nine thousand inhabitants to the centre of Podblanicko area with almost twice as many residents. The change did not come easily. The inhabitants and offices dealt with many problems ranging from inadequate transport and business networks to insufficient capacity in school facilities. Within twenty years (1970s and 1980s), Benešov underwent an immense transformation, which is evident at first sight. Prefabricated housing estates were built on the outskirts of the town and in densely built-up areas that had been redeveloped for building purposes. Not even the monuments escaped this remediation. The present-day appearance of Benešov is largely a reflection of fifteen to twenty years of construction activities in the monitored period. How has Benešov changed over the 20 years of the reporting period? What kind of transformation have all parts of the town undergone (center, peripherals)? Was it possible to offer sufficient capacity (housing, work) to new arrivals and old residents? How did Benešov cope in terms of services (education, transport, apartments, business network) with almost twice the number of inhabitants? Living Close to the Astronauts and 'in the Centre of the Universe': Every-day Life of the 'Panel Housing' Estate Jižní Město in Prague

The subject of this thesis is to record the every-day life, local and collective memory, and relationships of individuals - local inhabitants of the 'panel-housing' estate, Jižní Město, in Prague - towards the specific urban and social space in which they live. The thesis is based on interviews, with the long-term inhabitants of Jižní Město, which were structured to record their lived experience in the housing estate during two consecutive periods in recent Czechoslovak history - the so-called normalisation and post-socialism periods. The interviews were used as an empirical counterbalance to architectural/city planning discourse and Czech media, which has interpreted the legacy of 'panel-housing' estates in a negative way, as the socialist form of housing par excellence. The aim of this thesis is to analyse this discourse, which also reflects how Czech society deals with its communist past, and to compare it with the experiences, evaluations and current challenges in the lives of these long- term inhabitants, living in the biggest Czech 'panel-housing' estate with a bad reputation. Local identity and place identification in different types of urban environment The thesis is concerned with the question of local identity and place identification in urban environment on the example of Prague's Southern Town representing a large, centrally planned housing estate, and "old" Vršovice as an example of a traditional city quarter. The author distinguishes two theoretical-methodological approaches to the analysis of urban environment. The first approach is ontological-historical, ethic perspective describing the city with the use of theoretical devices of urbanism and phenomenology of architecture. The second approach - anthropological - is an emic approach studying the interpretation of a place by social agents. The author shows on numerous examples, how do the people identify with a place and what is the role of the physical attributes of the place and its memory in the process of place identification. The relation between ontological-historical and anthropological perspective is according to the author dialogic and he is looking for points of intersection. Media Image of Life in the Suburb of Prague in the 70s and 80s in Contemporary Czechoslovakian Media

This master's thesis concerns the construction and the life in the Ďáblice housing estate in Prague during the seventies and the eighties of the twentiethcentury and presents its reflection in contemporary Czechoslovakian media, namely in Rudé právo and Lidová demokracie dailies, Mladý svět magazine and relevant programs of Czechoslovakian Television. The Ďáblice housing estate was built between 1968 and 1983. To this day, it is considered to be unique for its urban composition in the Czechoslovakian context. The aim of the thesis was to present the media image of this housing estate in the normalization era between the Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968 and the Velvet Revolution in 1989. First, the theoretical part of the thesis describes the historical context and significant political and social events and phenomena. It also brings characterization of the contemporary media landscape with more detailed description of the researched media sources. Proměny panelových sídlišť po roce 1989

The bachelor thesis deals with the transformation of socialist blocks of flats after 1989. The theoretical part focuses on the development of middle and eastern countries. It discusses the development of Czechoslovak panels and their particular specifics over the forty years. The second part of theoretical chapter deals with architectural, urban, sociological and marginal and economic or cultural aspects. Current trends in development of prefabricated housing estates in the last twenty years are described here. In the empirical part there is a detailed description of a smaller panel housing estate located in Tábor, and its transformations after 1989 from the sociological and also architectonic point of view. The empirical part consists of qualitative research, which describes a panel housing estate as it is perceived in historical transformations by its inhabitants from the ranks of seniors. The research is primarily concerned with the transformation of settlement relations and the issues of current security in the housing estate and revitalization changes.

The article discusses itemized dissertation on “Open space of prefab housing estates in Brno”. The aim of the thesis is to analyse and describe the unused premises of panel house estates in Brno and to create and valorise usable system of data and information (regarding chronological sequence). The obtained data and the entire dissertation can be used in planning and designing interventions in prefab housing estates and in other structures of residential areas, respectively, as part of a multi-criteria analysis of particular housing estates.
