The role of the m6A pathway on electrophysiological correlates of spatial memory in animal model of Alzheimer's disease
Karkušová, Patrícia ; Telenský, Petr (advisor) ; Hromádka, Tomáš (referee)
Memory is one of the vital cognitive functions and can be divided into two categories, short-term memory and long-term memory. Long - term memory is further divided into explicit (declarative) for facts and events and implicit (non-declarative) memory, covering all other types of long-term memory. Alzheimer's disease is well known for a gradual loss of declarative memory and spatial orientation. It is one of the most common causes of dementia and affects tens of millions of people worldwide. The aim of our study was to determine the effect of inhibition of FTO demethylase on neuronal activity in a rat model of Alzheimer's disease (TgF344-AD) and a control strain (F344-CT), and evaluate the stability of spatial maps. We used tetrodes implanted in hippocampal CA1 subregion to record extracellular neuronal activity. Spiking activity was recorded in two spatially different conditions (familiar, unknown) twice, before and after applications of pharmacological inhibitor of FTO demethylase (MO-I-500). We have also evaluated remapping and map stability related to the application of MO-I- 500. We found the average frequency of neuronal firing rate increased in F344-CT rats in both familiar and novel environments after inhibitor administration, whereas increase in TgF344- AD rats was detected only in the novel...
Trilingual Bratislava: A Sociolinguistic View
Satinská, Lucia ; Nábělková, Mira (advisor) ; Ondrejovič, Slavo (referee)
The M.A. thesis approaches the trilingual language situation of Bratislava via example of four case studies of old trilingual Bratislava inhabitants. The first chapter introduces the historical context of old Bratislava; it is an extended introduction to the city issues, its ethnicities and languages. The second chapter processes respondents' language biographies with regard to language acquisition, contemporary language use and transferring languages to the next generations. The third chapter is close analysis of code- switching in respondents' speeches. The fourth chapter concentrates on language ideologies connected to individual Bratislava languages and ethnicities. The last chapter describes the components of collective and individual memory of respondents, such as mental map of the city (emerging through speaking about the city promenade, confectioneries and also celebrations) and repeated stories connected to languages. The thesis contributes to the discourse about (not only) language identity of Bratislava and approaches the use of specific sociolect of the city's older generation of indigenous inhabitants.
Continuity and Change in German Political Discourse: Holocaust as a Theme in Politics
Ďurková, Michaela ; Kubátová, Hana (advisor) ; Jeřábek, Martin (referee)
This bachelor thesis is concerned with the development of political discourse about Holocaust in Germany in the 1990s. It explores one of the most discussed chapters of German history by analysing speeches of selected political players. Political discourse is being viewed as an significant agent of the national process of reconciliation with past and as an element that abets in forming and strengthening of democracy. First part of thesis (1. and 2. chapter) is concerned with the theoretical approach to analysis. It examines contribution of political discourse analysis to political science. It also describes connection between the applied methodology and the object of study and gives reasons why is the work focused on the German parliament. Next part focuses on historical development of political discourse in Germany since 1945. It demonstrates the possibility that changes of such discourse are influenced by political regime and interests of country's main political representatives. The main part of the research is based on a premise that Holocaust as a theme played a significant role in the political speeches in Germany. By the medium of analysing individual speeches of selected policymakers will author come to evaluation of the extent of changes in German political discourse about Holocaust...
Holocaust in Political Discourse of Post-Communist Countries: Speeches of the Presidents of the Czech Republic and Poland
Ďurková, Michaela ; Emler, David (advisor) ; Chrobaczyński, Jacek (referee)
This thesis deals with the issue of memory and remembering in the post-communist area. In particular, it examines the form, extent and success of the Holocaust reflection and coping with the past on the example of the speeches of Czech and Polish presidents from 1993 (Václav Havel), or 1995 (Aleksander Kwaśniewski) until the access to the European Union in 2004. Author of the thesis assumes that the fall of Communism and the restoration of the democratic establishment represented a significant impetus for the countries in question to deal with their past. At the same time, they try to prove that the Holocaust memory politics of key political representatives of the Czech Republic and Poland has been one of the important factors in the creation of their post-communist democratic identity - and not only with respect to an unofficial demand of the unifying Europe to cope with the heritage of the past. Through the analysis of selected presidential speeches, the thesis identifies and evaluates the image of Holocaust created by the Czech and Polish presidents on the one hand and the weaknesses in the Holocaust memory politics of both actors on the other. After theoretical and conceptual introduction (chapter one), the experience with the Holocaust in Poland and the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, and...

The theme of the bachelor thesis are cognitive impairments in people with multiple scle- rosis. The first part focuses on cognitive functions, which are briefly described. Considerable part of the work is devoted to the disease itself, because it is important to describe the specific condition to be able to focus on its impact on cognitive function. Following part focuses on cognitive impairment in people - patients diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and provides an overview of studies on cognitive impairment in patients with multiple sclerosis. This section also briefly writes about neuropsychological methods used for the diagnosis of cognitive impairment in MS patients, treatment options of cognitive deficits in MS patients and its psychosocial impact. Danube: journey, memory, city and death
Satinská, Lucia ; Činátlová, Blanka (advisor) ; Bílek, Petr (referee)
MA thesis Danube: Journey, Memory, City and Death is, to a certain extent, a personal search for today's meaning of the river Danube in literature and culture. Practically, it contains texts from the antiquity until today, not chronologically, but in motivic spirals of journey, memory, city and death. It is geographically linked especially to German-Austrian, Slovak and Hungarian space. The chapters are buoy-like, because together they form the characteristics of Danubian culture, which are border, appropriation, palimpsest quality, and pleasure seeking. The chapter about journey deals predominantly with searching for Danube's identity and the character of traveler. The chapter about memory analyses chosen places of memory and certain historical figures. The third chapter, dedicated to Danubian metropoli (Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest), searches for common traits of their soul, which are realized through the concepts of border, pleasure and bridge. The last chapter about death in Danube deals with both images of death and river beings - fairies and nymphs. The whole text represents certain literary-cultural anthropology of Danube.
