Providing counselling for smoking cessation in Prague pharmacies: a questionnaire-based research

Background: Counselling regarding smoking cessation is along with the specialized centers and addictological ambulances also accessible in pharmacies. There are 26 registered as those with specialization in consulting of quitting smoking. Pharmacists who provide this service have to complete guaranteed course from the Czech Chamber of Pharmacists. In the field of addictology, this is currently not really covered topic. Objectives: The main goal of the bachelor thesis was to capture and evaluate the advice of pharmacists in smoking cessation in selected Prague pharmacies. The partial goal of the work was to describe client services in terms of sociodemography and to find the service based on motivation. Methods: In this study, the total selection method was chosen, the selection included all pharmacies in the capital city of Prague (26), which are in the register of pharmacies with smoking cessation counseling listed by the Czech Chamber of Pharmacists. One pharmacy was not included in the research sample as it was unavailable for technical reasons during the data collection period. The aim of my bachelor work was to find out the prevalence of the seniors' smoking, to find out the difference in a presence of the chronical illness between seniors smokers and non-smokers and to realize whether the seniors were informed by medics, doctors or nurses about the harmful effects of smoking and its consequences on their health.
Application of the Wisconsin Inventory of Smoking Dependence Motives (WISDM-68) for coaching in the domain of quitting smoking

This thesis is based on a succesfully defended master's thesis dealing with the possibility of using psychological coaching as a support method for smoking cessation. The theoretical section provides an overview of key information on the topics of coaching and smoking, with an emphasis primarily on the aspects applied in the qualitative research project, the description of which constitutes the content of the empirical section. On the basis of the author's preconceived original design which, in addition to the diagnostic and evaluation phases, comprised the essential stage of the three-month long coaching of nine smokers in different stages of the cessation process, the author sought to map the potential benefits, advantages and other aspects of the use of coaching as an innovative method, thusfar not commonly included among the established alternatives offered as smoking cessation intervention techniques. The main contribution of this thesis is a focus on The Wisconsin Inventory of Smoking Dependence Motives (WISDM-68) and its use in smoking cessation coaching. The whole process is illustrated by the newly introduced sample case study. Monitoring of a food-intake during tobacco detoxification

(teze): Úvod: Léčba závislosti na tabáku bývá často doprovázena nárůstem tělesné hmotnosti. Přesné příčiny tohoto jevu nejsou zcela známé, zásadní význam má zřejmě zvýšení příjmu energie a ztráta akutních účinků nikotinu na organismus léčených osob. Metody: Shromáždili jsme data týkající se vlivu léčby závislosti na tabáku na příjem energie a tělesnou hmotnost u 40 pacientů ve 2 pražských Centrech pro závislé na tabáku. Data byla získaná prostřednictvím dotazníkového šetření. Provedli jsme také podrobné monitorování průběhu léčby závislosti s důrazem na příjem energie a hmotnost u 1 vybraného pacienta. Výsledky: Zvýšení tělesné hmotnosti po zahájení léčby závislosti na tabáku se objevilo u 77 % sledovaných osob. Zjištěný nárůst hmotnosti byl ve většině případů v rozmezí 2,5 až 7 kg. Při porovnávání příjmu energie po zahájení léčby závislosti s příjmem energie před zahájením léčby se u 50 % osob příjem energie po zahájení léčby zvýšil a u 45 % osob zůstal stejný (u 5 % došlo ke snížení příjmu energie). Příčinou zvýšení příjmu energie u některých pacientů mohl být větší pocit hladu a chuti k jídlu (zjištěno u 53 % všech osob), zvýšení chuti na sladké (uvedlo 43 % osob), řešení chuti na cigaretu konzumací jídla (zjištěno u 33 % osob), konzumace jídla z důvodu potřeby zaměstnat ruce a ústa (u 21 %...
Eating disorders and smoking

This Bachelor Thesis is dealing with eating disorders caused by smoking. Thesis is divided into two main parts - theory and practice. The history of eating disorders, definition of each type of eating disorders, treatment examples and health complications of the disorder are covered in the first theoretical part. Also, there are disclosed the history of smoking, ways of treatment of the tobacco dependence and health consequences of smoking. At the end of the theoretical part there are discussions about the relations between smoking and weight, smoking and eating disorders, relapse of the disease when quitting smoking and about e-smoking among people with eating disorders. Practical part of this thesis contains of the research in a way of the survey. The questionnaire was made in two languages - Russian and Czech, in order to get greater amount of the respondents and to get more diverse answers. A link to the questionnaire was distributed by social media and web pages. Questionnaire was available to fill out from 13. 02. 2018 to 12. 03. 2018 and in total I received 101 respondents (54 for Czech version and 47 for Russian). Prague pharmacies clients' awareness about treatment of tobacco dependence possibilities

Objective: to investigate awareness of customers of Prague pharmacies about the possibilities of treatment of tobacco dependence, including interventions by pharmacists. Methodology: the sample of around 200 respondents will consist of customers of selected Prague pharmacies who are currently smokers. To meet the research objectives, the following research questions were chosen: 1: How often in pharmacy are smokers interviewed about smoking? 2: What kind of smoking cessation support do them pharmacists offer? 3: Where would smokers search professional help with smoking cessation? 4: How much informed are smokers about professional help with quitting smoking in pharmacy? Data collection methods: data will be collected through anonymous questionnaires during an interview; data analysis will take place in MS Excel. Results and recommendations: the results of the questionnaire survey should identify smokers' experience with quitting smoking, including their knowledge of where to go for help to this end. The thesis can help to increase awareness among customers of pharmacies about the possibilities of quitting smoking offered in pharmacies and to increase confidence in pharmacies staff. As for recommendations, specific proposals and comments may be provided to pharmacies concerning smoking cessation advice.

Cardiovascular disease and smoking. Treatment of tobacco dependence and cardiovascular risk

(EN) Introduction: Tobacco dependence is one of the four major risk factors (RF), cardiovascular (CV) disease (CVD). Objective: Analysis of CV risk of patients of our Center for Tobacco-Dependent. Methods: A retrospective assessment of the presence of CVD, RF for CVD and CV risk level according to the method SCORE in our patients - smokers from 2007 - 2009 (N = 1,349, 52.2% males, age range 25-64 years, mean age 44 ± 11, 7). CV risk was also evaluated one year after the baseline visit including newly diagnosed CVD RF, abstinence from smoking was validated by carbon monoxide in expired air. The results were compared to those of smokers in the study postMONICA (N = 1,122, 54.5% men, mean age 46 ± 11). Compared to the general population of smokers (postMONICA) significantly more Center patients had automatically high CV risk and CVD. The prevalence of type 2 diabetes was comparable as well as prevalence of hypertension and dyslipidemia in smokers without automatically high CV risk. Significantly fewer Center patients without automatically high CV risk were obese, family history was also significantly lower risk. Significantly more women with low RF and significantly fewer men aged 55-59 and women aged 55-64 with SCORE ≥ 5% came to the Center. Success rate of Center patients with SCORE < 5 % was 44.3 %...
