Comparative analysis of the national newspaper supplements Salon, Kavarna and Orientace

Diploma thesis "Comparison analyses of national newspaper supplements Salon, Kavarna and Orientace" analyses supplements of national, daily released newspapers: Pravo (Salon), Mlada fronta DNES (Kavarna) and Lidove noviny (Orientace). Essential methods used in this work are quantitative analysis, applied to specified moths during years 2006-2008, and chronological analysis of chosen issues during years 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2005. Based on them, various evaluations of supplement main characteristics, specific features and differences were observed. Most important characteristics investigated in the work are: supplement content and graphic conception, placement within the carrying newspaper, structure of published literature forms, themes and sub-themes. There can be also found summary of each supplement history, list of its typical authors and internet version description. Author of this thesis also introduced related overview of Czech literary and cultural magazines (Literarni noviny, Host, Divoke vino, Revolver Revue, Tvar nebo A2) and briefly stated profiles of main national newspapers. To gain supplement readers characteristics, approximate sociological questionnaire was processed among university students.

Position of activities of the Council for Radio and Television Broadcasting

This thesis deals with the issue of The Council for Radio and Television Broadcasting (the Council). The Council is an administrative office, which the public has little information about, and this lack of facts often results in various misunderstandings. The main objective of this thesis is to provide information about the Council and its activities and thus help to eliminate these mistakes and lack of knowledge. The thesis combines the administrative law and the media law. The thesis is composed of two major parts. The Council in general is dealt with in the first part. The history is summarized, the Council as an independent administrative regulatory authority is described and further examples of such administrative offices are provided in this part. The areas in which the Council operates are presented in the second part of this thesis, which is divided into three chapters according the main laws concerning the broadcasting. The first one deals with the law on broadcasting. Key broadcasting licenses and basic obligations of broadcasters are discussed in this chapter. The second chapter is about the law on the regulation of advertising. Criminality and its presentation in media-4choses cases in the Czech Republic after 1993

Diploma thesis "Criminality and its presentation in media - media representation of four chosen criminals in the Czech Republic after 1993" deals with presentation of criminality and criminals in mass media. Mass media play an important role, they are the main actor that creates public opinion and influences attitudes and opinions of the public within the basic themes that are important for contemporary society. After 1989, in connection with beginning media freedom and development of commercial media sector we could observe remarkable growth of news related to criminality and crime. We could also realize an increase of their tabloidization and brutalization. Unqualified public gains its knowledge of criminality in the region it is staying in and also in the whole republic particularly from the media. Media may although report to the recipients incorrectly about the involvement of criminality, number of crimes etc. The themes of this diploma thesis are as following: media production related to criminality and journalism, normative demands for journalism and media products including their infringements, social and media construction of reality and media representation. Structure and Research of Out-Of-School Influences on the Musical Development of the Child

The Diploma Thesis deals with the matters of children's musicality and the main factors influencing it. The thesis includes a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part focuses on the musicality issue and its structure, as well as on the factors that participate in this matter. Special attention is put to the out-of-school influences on the development of musicality. There is an outline of the influence of a family and its members, characteristics of a contemporary family and a present-day lifestyle. The thesis also deals with a social group influence and the impact of mass media, such as television, computers and the Internet. One of the subchapters is dedicated to the out-of-school artistic interests of children; another one deals with how music around us can act in a form of commercials, or in a store, for example. The practical part of this thesis is formed through a research oriented to the out-of-school influences mentioned above. This research was held at Libčická Primary School, Prague. Protection of personal rights of individual in mass media

11. Abstract in English This Master Thesis refers to the protection of personal rights of the individual in mass media. The main purpose is to analyse Czech legal regulations regarding this matter and to assess if the level of judicial remedy for the protection of personal rights is sufficient and appropriate. This thesis is focused on the collision of two fundamental rights, namely the right to protection of personal rights and that of freedom of speech and expression. Because of the growing influence of mass media, these rights are frequently at the centre of public debate and issues. The principal problem is which right should be prioritized. Both of them are established as fundamental human rights at the constitutional level therefore enjoy the same degree of protection. Attention is also paid to Spanish legal regulations of protection of personal rights of the individual in mass media. Medial image of candidates for president in second round of elections

The aim of this bachelor thesis is Media image of the candidates for president in the second round of elections, which were held in the Czech Republic in 2013. Using the method of content analysis and visual analysis of three of the most read online news, outcomes were found. The purpose was to find out if some of the news favored one of the candidates, if the news supported stereotypes about candidates and how they reached it. It was found, that all online news wrote in favor of Karel Schwarzenberg. They showed him (through photos, headlines and reports) more often in positive way then they showed his rival Miloš Zeman. Server Novinky.cz showed both candidates the most often of all online news in positive way. It published the most of the headlines, pictures and reports, which were positive. The most objective daily news was Aktualne.cz, because of the fact, that it published the largest number of neutral photos, headlines and reports of all servers. The proportion of positive and negative reports was in this server the most even of all. Miloš Zeman was showed in the most cases as a self-confident man with empty hands. The reflection of mass media in dystopian movies shot from 1970s.

The aim of this thesis is to provide a comprehensive and focused reflection with regard to role of mass media in selected dystopian films, respectively in movies where some significant dystopian elements do appear. This thesis is based on themes that have been the content of bachelor thesis written by the same author and expands on it - however, the bachelor thesis analysed exclusively three novels (Brave New World, 1984 and Fahrenheit 451). Nevertheless this thesis does not include any film adaptation of these novels. Within this work a wider range of resources was employed as it allows highlighting multiple topics associated with the mass media. The main theme is therefore related to the use of mass media and their impact on society. The thesis contains interpretation (from media studies perspective) of a total of 12 films, which are then divided into three categories based on the prevailing perception of the role of mass media. The first part is focused on the mass media as a constitutive element of dystopian regimes. In this case the mass media affect the society as a whole. Interplay Between Nomination Tendencies in the Language of Mass Media. The Case of the Analytical Adjectives

The thesis aims to describe and theoretically explain the range of complex nominal word structures and phrases that evolved in all Slavic languages with staggering productivity during the last decades. In particular, it focuses on the so called analytical adjectives, i.e. formally invariant lexical units mostly of foreign origin that manifest their attributive syntactic role (and the word class they belong to) not through a morpheme but through fixed word order position. The thesis rejects the view that analytical adjectives are first parts of compound words and explores several transitional cases. In more general terms, the thesis explores phenomena that test the boundary between words and phrases, morphology and syntax. It concludes that in Bulgarian there already exists a well established word subclass of analytical adjectives. They have resulted from an originally lexical innovation that has been grammatcalized due to intensive borrowings of words and phrase models mainly from English and their replication. Media (Re)Construction of Collective Memory: October and November as a Support for the Contemporary Czech National Identity

The bachelor thesis "Media (Re)Construction of Collective Memory: October and November as a Support for the Contemporary Czech National Identity" focuses on relation between mass media, collective memory and national identity. In accordance with social constructionism theory, the terms collective memory and national identity are understood as social constructs whereas mass media is considered to be one of the social construction agents. The aim of this work is to analyse a variety of media interpretations on significant Czech history events - October 28, 1918 and November 17, 1989. Analysed are newspaper commentaries published in order to commemorate these events during the eleven- year period from 1998 to 2009. As a resource for the analysis I have chosen three Czech daily newspapers - Hospodářské noviny, Lidové noviny and Mladá fronta DNES. The research method used is media qualitative content analysis. The work objective is to examine the typical media discourses based on national history which are constructed in a way to support contemporary Czech national identity. Not only does this thesis consist of research, it also includes methodology and theoretical framework.
