"Homo deformis". The fascination by appearance of deformed human body in the Lands of the Bohemian Crown between 1526 and 1620

During the 16th century a new phenomenon occurred, that the physically disabled people were presented as curiosities or miracles because of their visage. Some cases were realy incredible therefore their appearances gave an impulse for creating an artwork. The images were popular between all social levels, were collected by townspeople, scientists, nobles and kings. The dissertation thesis "Homo deformis". The fascination by appearance of deformed human body in the Lands of the Bohemian Crown between 1526 and 1620 aims to explore how the phenomenon of human curiosities was reflected in early modern visual art in the Czech lands. This dissertation thesis bases on individual examples of human monstrosity in various art forms such as portraits, allegories, scientific illustrations and pamphlets. It exams images of abnormal disabled people between 1526-1620 and focuses on their symbolic meaning, aesthetic interpretation. It summarizes the knowledge about perceptions of depicted abnormal persons in 16th century. It also shows the Early modern society reactions about "homo deformis", their everydayness and social status. This thesis studies reasons why the disabled body was a kind an inspiration for artists. MARTIN ZLATOHLÁVEK, PHD. Dissertation entitled Monastic rules and muses. The capuchin friars in the service of the art in early Baroque Bohemia set out for the purpose of research to the neglected theme of the Capuchin brothers - painters on the border between Mannerism and the Baroque era. This phenomenon in painting, which is not only characteristic for the order of the Capuchins, but also of other ecclesiastical orders, has never been more comprehensive. The Capuchin brother Paolo Piazza came to the Czech lands with first capuchin brothers; in his paintings he is inspired of the Venetian school of the 16th century. He was a versatile painter, he created not only painting on canvases, but also made wall paintings and his painting manuscript was not uniformly defined. Paolo Piazza worked in the capuchin monasteries in Prague and Brno during the reign of Rudolph II, for the emperor himself he created several artworks. Piazza's work has also been preserved in the engravings of the Sadeler family. Mannerist Tapestries in the Czech Republic

The thesis Mannerist Tapestries in the Czech Republic is focusing on the topic of mannerist tapestries in the Czech Republic. So far this subject remains, in both czech and foreign professional literature, without any greater attention and if the topic is mentioned, the expressions "late renaissance", "mannerism" and "early baroque" are very often mixed. For this reason, it is necessary to define "mannerist tapestry", based on formal analysis, comparison and focusing on cultural-historical background. After this theoretical part, it will be possible to place certain tapestries to this very short art period or vice versa to exclude them. The main part is focused on mannerist tapestries from the castles, museums, ect. of the Czech Republic and their inclusion in the European context. Jan Vermeyen - Prague goldsmith at the court of Rudolf II.

This bachelor's thesis "Jan Vermeyen - goldsmith at courtyard of Rudolp II.," is devoted to complicated personality, who Rudolph II. is at first, further his courtyard and his collecting activity. Simultaneously with this are conneted all events which happened in Europe at this period. Further this bachelot's thesis is devoted to biografy of goldsmith, to whom was attributed Rudolph's crown in the beginning of century. Two captures include a summary of his works which was compiled by himself or in cooperation with other Pragues' and Milans' shops, but this artwork was attributed to him in the 20th century. Thanks to this new knowledges crown which is mentioned in final capture.

The Influence of the Ancient art on Renaissance Sculptors in the 2nd half of 15th - 1st half of 16th Century

The Bachelor thesis called The influence of the ancient art on Renaissance sculptors in the 2nd half of 15th - 1st half of 16th century focuses on the comparison of ancient works with renaissance works in that period. It aims to compare possible themes and ideas of ancient figures that sculptors at that time could use as patterns for their work. Central attention will be given to these sculptors: Donatello, Tullio Lombardo, Michelangelo Buonarroti, Pierino da Vinci and Benvenuto Cellini. In my work, we also look at mythological scenes from a viewpoint of confrontation with the statue. The next aim is the introduction into historical and political context, that had a significant impact on the evolution of the art scene.
