Methods for measuring service quality in university libraries: a case study of libraries AMU and JAMU

This thesis examines the issue of measuring the quality of services from a theoretical and practical perspectives. It's trying to define the term quality in the context of library services, particular performance indicators used in practice and try to provide an overview of the possibilities of its measurement in the Czech environment as well as abroad. It describes methods Balanced ScoreCard, Benchmarking, Total Quality Management, ServQUAL and SWOT analysis, which originally came from the commercial sector and Benchmarking of libraries, Bibliotheksindex and LibQUAL +, which were created directly for a field of librarianship. It also maps the various activities in this field at national and international level. The practical part of the thesis consists of a survey in two selected libraries performed on the basis of three selected methods of quality measurement: Benchmarking of libraries, Bibliotheksindex and SWOT analysis. In conclusion of the thesis is based on the information gathered from own experience and practice created a general framework for service quality, the possibility of increasing quality and it's measurement in academic libraries.
Community functions of public libraries as one means of getting potential readers

Purpose of this thesis is to chart the area of community activities. The first part is theoretical. Main focus is on introduction into basic terms, and description of providing community services to the public, especially with regard to specific needs of target groups. Also promotional tools are given a brief part, as well as community activities realised abroad; following by specific examples of community activities of selected public libraries in region of Central Bohemia. The final part of the thesis analyses results of questionnaire focused on community activities provided by public libraries of Central Bohemia region as perceived not only by users, but also library staff. Regional Library of Highlands - services for users and regional function

The bachelor thesis introduces the Regional Library of Highlands, her services to readers and regional function. First reports on the Highlandsregion, the history and current state of the library. The next chapter provides an overview of the services that the library provides to readers. The last chapter discusses regional function within the Highlands region and provides information about libraries authorized to perform regional functions. Service Design in Public Libraries

This thesis deals with service design in public libraries. The theses consists of a theoretical part and a practical part. The theoretical part describes the services in public libraries. Then basics and principles of design services are introduced. This is followed by an overview of service design tools and methods suitable for use in libraries. The practical part analyzes services of the Matěj Josef Sychra Library from a user perspective, using tools and methods of service design and some possible improvements of these services are suggested.
Library rules of the municipal libraries

(in English): The purpose of this diploma thesis deals with library rules (regulations) of Municipal Library of Prague, Jiři Mahen Library in Brno, Helsinki City Library and with a prefigurative library rules for public libraries available on National Library of Czech Republic. The goal of the thesis is to build a model rules structure based on the analysis of the mentioned library rules followed by the definition an optimal content of public library rules. This work further studies library rules of the Municipal Library of Prague for automated branch offices with a focus on their contentual and formal changes during the validity of the library rule in the period from April 20th 1998 to April 12th 2010. Finally, the thesis offers a brief interpretation remaining library rules. The result of the thesis is the contentual definition of the optimal library rules and its structure intended for public libraries.
History and development of the Geographical Library of the Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague

(in English) The master thesis describes formation and activities of the Geographical Library of the Faculty of Science of the Charles University in Prague (http//www.natur.cuni.cz/geografie/knihovna/). The thesis deals with the formation of the library in the 1880s and outlines its development to the present. The focus of this work is to describe the current situation and outline the anticipated direction of the library's development in the coming years. Emphasis is placed on the growing importance of the Geographical Library as one of the most distinctive information institutes of the Faculty of Science, as well as the gradual introduction and use of new technologies and finally on cooperation with other information and academic institutions. In addition, all the program units (that are in use in the library) of the automated library system Aleph 500 are described. The author also focuses on the description of services, divided into basic and complementary, which the Geographical Library provides for professionals and general public. (in English) Diploma thesis "Municipal library in Odolena Voda as an information a cultural centre : Project" suggests possibilities of changes and expansion of library services provided by the Municipal library in Odolena Voda and suggests other activities so that it becomes in the future a modern information and cultural centre of Odolena Voda . The author briefly describes the history and current status of Odolena Voda. Academic libraries of public universities in the Czech Republic and their services aimed for foreign students : analysis of current state

(in English) The aim of master thesis was to describe and asses current state of services offered by libraries of public (i.e. non-private) universities in the Czech Republic to foreign students. The first chapter briefly characterizes university libraries in the Czech Republic and aims at legislative framework, financing, institutional background, users, offered services and information sources typical for university libraries. The second chapter deals with foreign students at universities in the Czech Republic. It presents an overview of works which dealt with the theme of foreign students in the Czech Republic until now, informs about which public universities in the Czech Republic are preferred by foreign students and which countries these students come from. The third chapter presents the principal part of the work. It contains the report on the survey carried out in public university libraries in the Czech Republic to which a questionnaire was sent focusing on services offered to foreign students. Services and programs of public libraries in the Czech Republic aimed at immigrants and national minorities

The objective of the thesis is to describe and evaluate services of public libraries aimed at immigrants and national minorities in the Czech Republic and programs to support them. The first part defines the principal terms related to libraries and minorities. An overview of legislation follows, focused on the same topic. The third part introduces five most common national minorities and immigrant groups living in the Czech Republic. The fourth chapter describes all regional libraries in the Czech Republic, two of municipal libraries near the national border where the percentage of minorities is higher and one specialized library with a focus on their foreign- language equipment, events, meetings or exhibitions about or for national minorities or immigrants, their cooperation with various organizations, employees' interest in minorities and a possibility of registration of foreigners at libraries. Following part is about programs and projects supporting foreigners in Czech libraries. The sixth chapter describes selected organizations working in the migration field. Diploma thesis " Information and library services for students of art schools with a focus on dramatic and musical art in the Czech Republic " aims to analyze the environment of libraries with a fund focused on music and theater, which serves students of art schools. This thesis also describes library and information services and the impact of copyright law to provide services in libraries with a fund containing score, audio and audiovisual media. The last section describes methodology of qualitative research and evaluates research by force field analyzing method and also analyzed findings and recommendations to address the identified facts.
