ILJA HURNÍK AND HIS BENEFITS TO PIANO TEACHING

This bachelor degree thesis focuses on the work of a famous Czech composer, pianist, writer and teacher; Ilja Hurník. Most of his teaching methods and piano works were created for children. The thesis also summarizes research on how favored these works are among piano teachers and children, as well as, how they enrich their subjects. After the introduction, Hurník's life is shortly described. This is then followed by an abridged list of his musical non‑piano work and his books to help orient the reader. The following chapter deals with his piano work, teaching compositions for children and his principles of teaching. This chapter is further broken down and contains partial lists of the works relating to these areas. The final part of the thesis is a research of the popularity of Hurník’s pieces created for the purpose of teaching. The research was done through a questionnaire and the answers of the respondents are processed quantitatively. The form of the questionnaire was a simple rating system (yes/no or never/sometimes/often/always tick boxes) and free from comments were not used. These responses were then tabulated and the answers summarized.
Piano playing in the light of academic knowledge

This thesis combines academic research and the knowledge of bodily functions and mental techniques with musical practice. As an introduction, it deals with the question of talent in general, as well as various factors affecting a musician’s success, diligence and appropriate motivation among them. The main body of the thesis focuses on the creative process and ways to induce creativity, concentrating on the effectiveness of practice and its specific characteristics: the most suitable time of the day, the optimal length of practice, goal planning and individual techniques. This section is accompanied by an overview of the most frequent mistakes made while memorising compositions and a description of the mental process of committing information to long-term memory, including the most effective learning techniques. Finally, the thesis examines the issue of mental preparation for public performances and discusses long-term as well as short-term preparation techniques, considering the question of lifestyle and dietary recommendations before and after a concert.
The evaluation of the head posture of children playing piano

Title: The evaluation of the head posture of children playing piano Aims: The aim of this work was the evaluation of an influence of playing the piano on school age children who had played piano for 4 or 5 years. Methods: 46 probands participated in the research, out of which 23 children represented the research group and 23 children represented the control group. Probands head movements were observed while playing a piece of their own choice without the aid of musical notesfirstly in a relaxed seated position and secondly in aadjusted seated position according to Brugger. Probands from the control group undertook the same observations, but without playing the piano. During the observations of the relaxed and adjusted seating position, probands looked directly to the front of them while their head position and their eyes remained still. The TrackIR tool (Natural Point Company) was used to conduct the measurements of the head movements. Results: The conclusion derived from the results is that piano playing from 4 to 5 years does not have a negative influence on the head posture of the children who play the instrument for 4 or 5 years. The proportion of piano at the profiles of future teacher of Music - Music Education

The author of the thesis entitled " The Share of Piano Playing in Shaping the Future Music Teacher" wants to bring to attention the importance of piano playing in all parts of the musical educational process and its significant role in forming the personality profile of a future music teacher. Without developed piano playing skills, a teacher cannot take a creative part in the musical educational process, attract the children's attention and involve them in creative musical activities. In the connection with the current educational trends (humanistic, poly-aesthetic principles); the demands on teachers are gradually increasing. Teachers are expected to fulfil high professional and personal criteria to be able to perform effectively at contemporary schools, to control the education, where children's spontaneousness and vivacity play a dominant role. That is why, at the beginning of the thesis, the author discusses philosophical points and then deals with the development of a teacher's personality via the prism of piano playing. The thesis also covers psychological bases of personality from the point of view of three systems: biophysiological- motor-neuronal, cognitive and non-cognitive. Julia Fischer - a personality and profil of the artist

Julia Fischer is today recognised as one of the world's leading interprets. At her young age she has already performed at all the famous concert halls over the world. She has collaborated with many renowned conductors and excellent musicians. In addition to her busy concert schedule Fischer's other prioritized occupations became teaching as well as professional solo piano and playing with a string quartet. Next to her professionaly successful life she manages to be a wife and a mother of two children. I would like to concentrate in my thesis on the period of her studies but also to all the important additional aspects of her musical career.
Alternative methods of treatment of professional diseases of pianists

Play on piano is one-sided movement activity. During this activity is burned our upper body mainly our arms and back. During overworking of particular part can get hurt the playing apparatus. Aim of this work is to map the most common diseases of pianists, to focus on symptoms and causations and mainly to find out options of alternative methods of treatment of professional diseases. Thesis will be focused on a detailed description of two methods – Feldenkrais method and Alexander technique.
The Personality of Pierre-Laurent Aimard And His Influence On Post-war Piano Interpretation

This thesis focuses on the personality of Pierre-Laurent Aimard – a pianist, who enjoys an internationally celebrated career and who is one of the most significant figures in the piano music of the second half of the twentieth century. He is closely linked to composers of Europe’s post-war avant-garde. The goal of the thesis is to depict his artistic life, his thoughts and opinions and their value for a contemporary pianists and also to describe his contribution by closely collaborating with leading composers of post-war era. The thesis also contains an analysis and comparison of Aimard's selected recordings of Gyorgy Ligeti's pieces, which were prepared in personal collaboration with the author.
INTERPRETATION ASPECTS OF CHOPIN’S B MINOR SONATA

The main aim of the thesis is to give a conclusive view of the current interpretation state of Frédéric Chopin’s sonata in B minor, op. 58. A brief formal analysis is provided as well as further study hints. The main part focuses on interpretation difficulties such as edition choice, composition style in contrast to interpretation approaches and fulfilment of the opus by famous pianists.
