Bohdan Khmelnytsky in the historical consciousness of Ukrainians

This diploma thesis focuses on the analysis of the perception of the figure of Bohdan Chmelnyckyj in selected works of art. The research focuses on Russian (Soviet), Polish and Ukrainian works of art. We will discuss such Russian (Soviet) cultural monuments as the Bohdan Chmelnyckyj Monument and the Peoples' Friendship Arch in Kyiv, the film "Bohdan Chmelnyckyj", the Polish film "With Fire and Sword", the Ukrainian film "Bohdan - Zynovij Chmelnyckyj", Lina Kostenko's verse novel "Berestechko" and the series of documentary films "Secrets of Great Ukrainians". The analysis of various works of art will help to define the Russian, Soviet, Polish and Ukrainian view of Bohdan Chmelnyckyj and his activities and to identify similarities and differences in the interpretation of the figure of Bohdan Chmelnyckyj. Attention will also be paid to how works of art influence Ukrainian historical consciousness. The theoretical basis will be the concept of historical memory. Shaping the identity of a place in relation to historical consciousness

This thesis deals with Zelów as a place of live of Protestants, whose ancestors left the Czech land after the 1740. The group identified with the Czech Reformed tradition. By the end of the 19 century, they were discovered such as the communitie of fellow countrymen, and therefore the thesis focuses on their descriptions in the press and books. The visits of Jan Auerhan, Vladimír Míčan or Josef Folprecht illustrate the approach of the assistance to fellow countrymen, who perceived them as a lost branch of the Czechs. However, their interpretations were affected by the sight of national glasses, and at the same time they decided to support them in order to avoid assimilation. The second part of the work focused on the repatriation action from Poland to Czechoslovakia. Based on extensive archival research, we interpret the situation and activities of the Society of the Czech Exiles and Returnees from Poland, which helped Czech evangelicals abroad who, despite their wishes, were not settled in one place, but on the contrary scattered to the border area. A canon of the great Czechs in history books from 1918 and ways of shaping the historical consciousness of youth in the present

(en) The thesis focuses on the pantheon of historical figures in the history books of primary and secondary schools over the past century and in contemporary school history teaching. The theoretical part of the páper deals with terms with which the research part is dosely linked.These are primarily concepts such as historical consciousness, collective memory or narratives, and approaches to the analysis of textbooks, history books and their content analysis are also mentioned. The role of the teacher in the process of shaping historical consciousness is also briefly stated. The Czech pantheon of personalities and the rationale for the baseline selection is the subject of a follow-up chapter. The core part of the dissertation is its own research activity, the first part of which is represented by a content analysis of history textbooks. More precisely formulated chapters relating to the figures of the Czech pantheon examined. The next stage of research is already the application of mixed empirical research. This methodology is represented by an online questionnaire survey among primary and secondary school history teachers across the Czech Republic. We also used the method of in-depth interviews with tutors and focus groups with university students.
Teaching of History of Medieval Clothing of History at Vocational Secondary School

TITLE: Teaching of History of Medieval clothing of History at Vocational secondary school AUTHOR: Veronika Raubicová DEPARTMENT: Department of History and History Didactics SUPERVISOR: PhDr. Hana Havlůjová, Ph.D. ABSTRACT: The thesis is focused on application of comprehensive knowledge of medieval clothing in education of the first-year students at humanities and art upper-secondary schools. The theoretical knowledge will be used for creating didactic programme from which the students will learn basic facts about clothing and its importance for medieval culture and society. The students should also realize how medieval cultural heritage influences the recent clothing and fashion. The programme involves different educational methods. The efficiency of the programme and its methods will be shown analysing the students' final products. In case the programme is successful, it will be offered to other schools with the same or similar curriculum. As a part of the evaluation, the teachers will be interviewed and their reviews of the programme and its use in education enclosed. The creation and reproduction of historical consciousness on the example of the association Radecký Praha

The master thesis "The creation and reproduction of historical consciousness on the example of the association Radecký Praha" deals with the historical consciousness, its creation and reproduction. The theoretical part defines not only historical consciousness but also pays attention to the related issues, such as collective memory, historical memory, sites of memory, or national identity, due to the fact that the boundaries between collective memory and historical consciousness are often at least unclear. Theoretical part is primarily based on the works of Maurice Halbwachs, Jan Assmann, Miroslav Hroch and Pierre Nora. The empirical part of this study concludes the research of the association Radetzky Prague, which seeks to return the monument of Marshal Radetzky on the Malostranské náměstí. The research tries to describe and understand the ways of creation and reproduction of historical consciousness of its members throughout the analysis of qualitative interviews. Mentioned authors already provide a certain methodological background research. Conclusion contains a summary and a comparison of research results with theses of authors that are dealing with similar themes. The Massacre of Aussig in Sudeten German memory culture

(in English): Bachelor Thesis "The Massacre of Aussig in Sudeten German memory culture" describes the role the so called "Massacre of Aussig" had in the memory culture of the Sudeten Germans from Ústí region, organized arround the Aussiger Hilfsverein This developement is delimitated by the years 1945 - 1973. In this time period, the major forms of rememberance used until this day had established themselves. This description of developement of memory culture, especially the graudal of communicative memory into collective and cultural memory as well as methods of instrumentalisation and actualization of these events is based on theoretical works of Aleida Assmann, Jörn Rüsen and others.
Historical reflections in current European song lyrics (since 1980) in selected thematic areas and its influence on historical consciousness

This thesis will be examining current song lyrics in popular and scholarly way to professionally judge possibilities of real impact of this lyrics to a historical consciousness of the listener. Then it will be following up the reasons why are historical topics so frequentative in song lyrics, various ways of interpretations, way od misinterpretations, influence of used instrument like language, form of the performance, sings, composition, mass character etc… To every each chosen interpret will be dedicated concrete and specific space in this thesis by the amount of the historical impact in his work. The result of this thesis should be very integrated and educated view to this subject of interest.

The intention of this work is to monitor changes significant natural place - the Giant Mountains Heidelberg / Zaly in the 19th century, when the topographical point in the country without national or sacred past, becoming a symbolic place of memory, based on an analysis of available sources to determine which social "entities "the creation of this symbolic" construct "involved. The culmination of this symbolic metamorphosis in the place of memory was the construction of the observation tower atop Czech tourists in the nineties, who within the nationalist "rivalry" between the Czech and German tourist organizations of "dominating the hill" reluctant to use toponomastic arguments interpreting the origin of the Czech name of the mountain, that, however, not based on the real facts, but only on certain notions of local "culture of remembrance". These ideas survived and were kept for centuries in memories as a myth a symbolic level the collective memory of the local ethnic (Czech) population during the 19th century, and spread thanks to a first layer of civil servants-topographers and later mainly due to expansion of tourist clubs.
