Valentová, Marie ; Hrůzová, Andrea (advisor) ; Láb, Filip (referee)
Contemporary constantly expanding content of social media like Instagram brings the medium of photography to new contexts. Photography becomes an instrument of immediate communication and its historically defined functions are an object of change. The continuity of Instagram content creating, the personal perspective of its users, the constant presence of camera accompanying them are aspects analogous to the artwork of Nan Goldin. Goldin's photo essay The Ballad of Sexual Dependency (1986)has a character of visual diary that captures the life of her community with almost obsessive continuity. It's also captured from deeply personal perspective depicting intimate moments and describing Goldin's personal relationships. Publishing of The Balladand formation of Instagram is divided by more than twenty-five years and both events and its meanings are profoundly different. This thesis nevertheless presumes that comparison of these, in many aspects alike phenomenons can help describe the change of the function of the media of photography, explore contemporary tendencies in photography aesthetics, the meaning of instagram's content to its users and provide general understanding of the role of shared photography in social and historical context. The methods of comparison are semiotic visual analysis,...

Eating as an Aesthetic Experience, or even as an Art?
JABČANKOVÁ, Anna Marie
This bachelor's thesis is focused primarily on options, whether you can consider food as an aesthetic experience or even if it is possible to call it art. The main points in this thesis are a rough look at food and the act of eating as a whole, which could then be called a type of "fine art." Pragmatic aesthetics will be the most significant factor in confirming or disproving this statement, as practical aesthetics focuses on everyday and mundane parts of life (as one of the few aesthetic and philosophical branches) and points out the unusualness and eventual aesthetic values. The last part of the thesis focuses on various eating habits and their aesthetic and ethical elements, which can sometimes even fundamentally influence the aesthetic experience of eating. The items listed in this thesis are the main features of an aesthetic experience related to eating and situations when it is possible to call eating an art.

The overview of the anglophone tradition of aesthetics of environment based on aesthetic theory of nature is confrontated with theoreticians inspired by phenomenology and pragmatism. The main objective of this thesis is the theoretical inclusion of everyday urban experience and then the creation of prerequisities to describe and evaluate this environment. The necessity to reflect the different attitudes of producers and percievers is already occuring during the first chapter. The following part is dealing with diverse examples of alienation, manipulation and violence, which specially designed city environments perform on certain groups of inhabitants. This chapter also examines the selection of the targets of violence, typology of environments, strategies and motivations of the ordering party of such designed environments. The perspective is turned around in the last chapter, when the city environments are described from the viewpoint of a consumer, a pedestrian or a reader. The city is comprehended as an authoritative structure of opportunities, which can be nonetheless be seized creatively in various practices. These practices are considered as somehow subverting or microsubverting the structuring authority.
Possible Uses of Camp in Interpretation of Czech Contemporary Cultural Background
DEMETER, Peter
Proposed dissertation is focusing on specific eccentric aesthetics based on hyperboles, ambivalent meanings and ironic attitude, which in Anglo-American background is so called camp derived from French. Camp origin can be found on the court of Louis XIV, where we can notice passionate tries to cultivate affected court-style culminating in baroque metaphor of the world as a theatre. Due to impact of modernity and postmodernity, scope of the camp extended to various cultural spheres and phenomenon began to corelate through its eccentricity with common marginality, respectively with something what is different from "normality" and "genuineness" also settled schemes of perception or ways of historical reflection. Goal of proposed dissertation is based on theoretical-historical interpretations to trace mentions of camp (mainly in literature) with focus on Czech background, where its rich interpretational potential can clarify most of social-cultural tendencies.

Les Salons: Denis Diderot's art criticism
Kavalová, Eva ; Jamek, Václav (advisor) ; Voldřichová - Beránková, Eva (referee)
This work focuses on analysis of Denis Diderot's Salons, the comparison of their individual parts and their development. These writings are still very important for understanding the art of the 18th century. Moreover, they are also examples of a distinctive contribution of Diderot as critic combining aesthetic, ethical and philosophical scales. The work pays attention to the conditions of genesis of Salons, but mainly deals with literary criticism as a genre that the philosopher created and continually improved over the years. An important part is the analysis of author's way of discourse about individual painters (specifically Greuze, Chardin and Fragonard) and how it is often changing over time.
