Problematika zemědělství v rámci dohody EU-MERCOSUR
Nádeníčková, Petra
The main goal of this diploma thesis is to evaluate the impact of the agriculture and its role in the mutual relations between European Union and Mercosur within the Free Trade Agreement. In the first part of this diploma thesis there is an explanation of the general development of international trade, dissimilarities of the agricultural politics from both sides and also their mutual agrarian trade. The main focus of the second part is particular influence of the agriculture in the agreement, individual stances of the chosen member states of the European Union and Mercosur but also of the agricultural organizations and associations. The last part focuses on the development of the Free Trade Agreement since reelection of the Brazilian president Lula de Silva which could outline possible development of the ratification and possible validity of this agreement.
Impact of the international trade agreements between EU and African countries
Svoboda, Tomáš ; Semerák, Vilém (advisor) ; Mošovský, Jan (referee)
The international trade policy between the EU and African developing countries covers the negotiations of various agreements aiming to promote mutual trade flows. The goal seems to both exploit the economic potential and support local development, including poverty or inequality reduction. To gain the maximum utilization of the benefits of trade, agreements need to be optimized and set toward the right degree of integration. Therefore, this paper provides the ex-post analysis of trade agreements concluded during the period 1948-2021 to evaluate their impact on mutual trade volume. The Fixed effects and the Poisson pseudo maximum likelihood estimation methods are used in combination with two sets of dummy variables. The results reveal the negative impact of the EU-African agreements across all depth levels in comparison to the general arrangements. Furthermore, the African continent shows a relative trade reduction among agreements containing too few and too many integration ratios emphasizing the necessity of finding the right balance. Disaggregating the effect into the African regions, West Africa seems to be the worst-performing area thus far. Finally, we have found strong evidence of trade diversion questioning the positive welfare of African nations. According to our findings, the renegotiation...
TTIP: Why did the negotiations start as late as 2013?
Karl, Václav ; Kozák, Kryštof (advisor) ; Fiřtová, Magdalena (referee)
This thesis' focus is a free trade agreement between the European Union and the United States of America called the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership. The main goal of the thesis is to answer the question of why the negotiations began as late as 2013. The thesis touches on the issue of regionalism; therefore it presents a short introduction on this topic in the beginning. It then follows to the Second World War and by chronologically analysing the trade relations between the EU and the USA it describes the factors which led to the negotiations of TTIP, as well as those that called them off. Among these main factors it primarily mentions the failure of multilateral negotiations within the WTO and various interest groups on both sides of the Atlantic, mainly trade and consumer organisations. Furthermore, it mentions the Great Recession of 2007 and the decline in the influence of the United States and the European union on the world geopolitical scene. The thesis also analyses which of the mentioned factors were relevant at certain moments and in individual cases, as well as if it shifted the negotiations back to the start. The whole thesis is written from the american perspective on this issue and it takes the european one into consideration only in the cases of dispute. In the end, it...
Impact of the FTA between EU and South Korea on the Czech Republic
Maderová, Karolína ; Semerák, Vilém (advisor) ; Hayat, Arshad (referee)
In this thesis we study the effect of Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between European Union and South Korea, especially on the Czech Republic. To do so, we use gravity model. We specify three different gravity equations, each with a different set of fixed effects, and apply two estimation methods on them: Fixed Effects and Poisson Pseudo Maximum Likelihood. Apart from this, we also use traditional indicators (Herfindahl and RCA indices) to assess the changes in trade. The results of the gravity model estimations suggest that the FTA did not have a significant impact on the bilateral trade. However, trade diversification analysis using the Herfindahl index and comparative advantage analysis using the RCA index both indicate that the bilateral trade between the Czech Republic and South Korea improved with the FTA in place.
The Impact of the EU-South Korea Free Trade Agreement on EU's Exports
Czakojová, Kristýna ; Polák, Petr (advisor) ; Vacek, Pavel (referee)
1 Abstract To support exports, the European Union (EU) and South Korea concluded the EU-South Korea free trade agreement (FTA) in 2010. An objective of the FTA was to reduce or remove barriers to international trade. This thesis examines the impact of the FTA on EU's exports. The gravity model of international trade was applied in the study with using the data over the years 2005-2017. The hypothesis was tested using static and dynamic GLS random and fixed effects, static LSDV model and dynamic GMM model. The two-step SYS- GMM model was concluded as a valid estimate. Empirical analysis shows that the exports between the two countries are predicted to be about 13.8 % higher if they have signed the EU-South Korea Free trade agreement, holding other factors fixed. Moreover, a positive impact of GDP and a negative impact of distance on export were detected, as expected.
Free Trade Agreement between the European Union and the Republic of Korea - success or missed opportunity?
Haas, Václav ; Kučerová, Irah (advisor) ; Plechanovová, Běla (referee)
This thesis addresses the Free Trade Agreement between the European Union and the Republic of Korea, which is the first one of the new generation free trade agreements for EU. First, the issue is explained in the theoretical framework of the theory of international systems and the theory of neoliberal institutionalism, which allows to grasp it adequately in the international political context. Then, the work presents the development of the legislative environment concerning the common trade policy and the transformation of strategic thinking in this area. Further, it defines the scope of economic interactions between the two participants and their common interests leading to the conclusion of the agreement. Subsequently, the thesis analyses the existing contractual relationships of both participants and defines the main aspects of the newly accepted agreement. Lastly, the current effect of the efficiency of the agreement on the trade with goods and services is analysed.

Relationship between Free Trade Agreements and Foreign Direct Investment
Kim, Hyunjin ; Štěrbová, Ludmila (advisor) ; Zamykalová, Miroslava (referee)
This paper analyzed the FDI trends between Korea and its FTA partners which were Chile, Singapore and EFTA. The other group was central European countries and their FTA partner countries that are Chile, Mexico and South Africa. The empirical studies of FDI developments after FTA have found that the results were different from country to country even though they have the FTA status with the same countries. Korea has been increased FDI investment in its FTA partner countries but not with Chile and EFTA. Similarly, Germany has increased its FDI in their FTA partner countries after FTA. But most central European countries which are Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and Hungary were not much changed their FDI investment after FTA. But their investment also increased when we measure FDI in the absolute numbers between before and after FTA. Regarding the prospects of FDI flows between Korea and central European countries after ROKEU FTA, We took into accounts such as FDI trends with its FTA partners, FDI regime and current FDI position etc including ROKEU FTA itself. Basically, we could predict that FDI would increase in central European countries from Korea when we consider the previous trends between them and the results of empirical analyses of the FTA partner countries. So it is hard to say that FDI will be increased in Korea from these countries after FTA. But Germany would be very active outward economy and it would invest more in South Korea than before FTA.
