The support of the childrens' reading in the Czech Republic and German speaking countries

The diploma thesis concentrates on the children's reading issues, and compares the approach to its support in the Czech Republic and the German speaking countries. The introductory part is devoted to the current children's reading, the factors that influence it, and reading interests of today's children. It also evaluates the contemporary Czech children's literature and its publishers. The following two chapters describe the activities for the children's reading support that are developed by Czech libraries and non-librarian entities. The next part introduces the projects for the children's reading support implemented in Austria and Germany; it also shortly describes the programs of other German speaking countries. The sixth chapter briefly outlines the subject matter of the children's reading support in both Czech and foreign media. There are two surveys attached to the thesis. The first compares the activities of selected Czech and foreign libraries, and their contribution to the children's reading support. The second survey, implemented among the children readers of the Central Library of the Municipal Library in Prague, evaluates the children's satisfaction with the offered thematic discussions for the school classes. Overcoming Methods of Kid Reader Communication Barriers

Abstact This undergraduate thesis examines possible means of overcoming communication barriers appearing in interaction with young readers. First, the key terms such as communication, communication barriers, reader, and young reader are defined. Then, literacy and ways of supporting young readers' literacy development are discussed. Specific strategies to eliminate communication breakdowns between young readers, their parents, school and library staff are further explored. The research part of the thesis investigates interactions in a second grade reading environment through a case study. The thesis concludes with a brief summary of current issues and suggestions of how libraries could take an active part in improving communication with young readers.
The role of the book in evolution of the children's imagination

The master thesis deals with the importance of the book in evolution of the children's imagination. The first part includes short introduction to problems of children's imagination. The second part is engaged in ontogeny of child from prenatal period to the middle childhood and in progress of key competences. It analyzes selected psychological approaches, which had the imagination as a subject of the research. The thesis explains and defines basic terms and processes of the imagination. It deals with a specific phenomenon of the children's imagination and with the evolution of the imagination. The third part introduces typical children's literature, directs on the traditional fairytale and it specifies problems of the literary characters too. It describes the historical development of the Czech book illustration, importance of the illustration in books for children and it also describes children's drawings. The fourth part applies all of previous pieces of knowledges into the work experience in kindergarten. It also describes relations between child and school or child and book. Reader's Popularity of Characters in Harry Potter by Children of Primary School and Secondary School

The diploma thesis is focused on the problems of children readership and its main aim is to reveal the influence of the literary work that is very popular among readers on the interpretation of concrete literary text. By the means of research it tries to detect how the work Harry Potter by J. K. Rowling and its popularity affect the perception of literary text with respect to pupils of the 6th grade in primary school and students of 1st year in secondary school. The defined aim is studied mainly through reader's perception of literary characters in the concrete literary text; the main focus is aimed at perception of character hierarchy, creation of relationships with characters and perception of the main character of the work Harry Potter. Thanks to these findings it is possible to say whether the children readers are able to perceive the concrete literary text independently on the work by J. K. Rowling and its popularity or whether they are constantly under its influence and are not able to free themselves from its dominance. The role of reading in orphanages in the Czech Republic

(anglicky) This master thesis deals with the role of reading in children's homes in the Czech Republic. The theoretical part shows the institutional care in the Czech Republic. The theoretical part presents the basic facts of developmental psychology and reading skills of children who are growing up in an children's home. The master thesis includes a research about the role of reading in children's homes and also a research about children's homes staff, which allows access to information for children. The methodological part contains information about selected technology for the research and infromation how was the research made. The analytical part contains the outputs of the research and its components are also meant to be used for improvements.
North American public libraries programmes focusing on developement of children's reading skills from birth to 6 years: case studies

The aim of this diploma thesis is characterization and evaluation of programs and projects, which are proceeding in United States of America to support children's reading skills. The first part is devoted to reading to children from birth to six years, impact of books to children, and to factors, which are influencing the beginning of reading. In other chapters are presented projects of American Library Association and its division Association for Library Services to Children. In the following, the programs of selected libraries and non-profit organization are mentioned (for example Mother Goose on the Loose, Birth to six or Reach out and Read). In the last part is described the situation in Czech Republic. There are presented projects like Celé Česko čte dětem, Rosteme s knihou, Poprvé do školy - Poprvé do knihovny, and also cooperation of libraries and kindergartens.
Support of Reading among Primary School Children by Using of Project Method

Thesis deals with the study of children's magazines with a focus on students first primary school. The work is focused on the use of language, graphic design, the aim and content of magazines for this age group. Furthermore, there also addresses the issue of online magazines compared to arbitrarily marketable magazines. The theoretical part focuses on the individual child reading a history of the magazine. The thesis is conducted to map the problems of children's magazines with a focus on practical use during lessons and also analyzes the current situation and future possibilities of this leisure reading.
Development of the relationship of pre-school children with books and literature

The subject of this Bachelor work is the relationship of pre-school children with books and literature. The theoretical part deals with the development of this subject in the 20th century, both in the theoretical area of children{\crq}s reading and literature and the doctrinal approach. Further it compares the approach to this subject area in the past and in the present. The practical research part examines the relationship of contemporary pre-school children with books and the characteristic of their internal and external motivation. This is based on a questionnaire completed both by parents of pre-school children and nursery school teachers, project methods, interviews and observation of children. The results of the research are compared with available sources from the 1970's and 1980's.
