Formation of new identity and symbols of the Czech society in 1989-1993 (Analysis in terms of the concept of civil religion)
Novotný, Josef ; Halík, Tomáš (advisor) ; Lupták Burzová, Petra (referee)
The thesis tries to prove applicability of the concept "civil religion" to the Czech society. After presentation of the concept of civil religion originating from R. Bellah, civil society and legitimization (grounded in the ideas of J. Přibáň) the addresses of president V. Havel and the articles from the selected newspapers of that period are analysed. In 1989-1993 as the transformative and crisis period one can observe the debate about the necessity of creating a civil society, finding a way of legitimizing the new condition and creating a new collective identity. Focusing on the individual and the citizenship following from the analysed articles constitutes the societal fundaments; and in these fundaments, thanks to "civil religion", there are recognized the transcendent component and the universality that both convey unifying potential and can be presented in a particular form through myths.

Qualitatively collected biographical interviews were further analysed, which led to the formulation of three chapters, each of which points to one level of life that was important for the formation of the above-mentioned identity. The setting of the communist regime, even after the decriminalization of homosexuality in 1961, was still not very favorable for sexual minorities. However, this meant only a small problem for the homosexual community, for which they always found their way and created their own conditions, yet with certain limits.

Kroufek, Marek ; Grygar, Jakub (advisor) ; Kotík, Michal (referee)
This bachelor thesis concerns on 'the practice of being a pub regular' ("štamgastenství") as a particular cultural phenomenon and its role in contemporary pub culture. It summarises the evolution of pubs in the Czech context and explains a symbolical meaning of the place of pub in the construction of a Czech national identity. The thesis looks at pub as a public space from the perspective of the concept of the third place of an American urban sociologist Ray Oldenburg according to which for one's healthy functioning in society it is important to have got, beside of a home and a workplace, also the third place, a neutral ground, where one can experience informal public life. As claimed by this approach, the existence of the third places is crucial for an establishment of local community and cultivation of civil society. This thesis focuses on pub regulars as the group that makes the third place in the form of a pub alive and keeps it as such. The practical part of the thesis engages in a qualitative research using a method of ethnography on two selected Prague pubs in order to find out whether there is still a space for 'the practice of being a pub regular' in contemporary pub culture and how the individual pubs deal with it. It concludes that 'the practice of being a pub regular' is evolving in a...

Miženko, Milan ; Šubrt, Jiří (advisor) ; Štemberk, Jan (referee)
Thesis "Vítkov as a realm of memory of the Czech society in the nineteenth and the twentieth century" deals with questions of historic memory and opportunities of its study in a context of the Czech society. Thesis focuses on changes in perception of Vítkov hill as a "realm of memory" of the Czech society during the nineteenth and the twentieth century, specifically in the years from the end of the second half of the nineteenth century until present days. The TV show Prostřeno as a mirrof of social and political phenomenons in czech society
Karták, Vít ; Štoll, Martin (advisor) ; Soukup, Martin (referee)
Prostřeno! show became a phenomenon amongst Czech television programmes. It is broadcasted daily and usually it is watched by hundreds of thousands of viewers. This culinary show should be apolitical and should focus solely on cooking and table manners. However, this is not the case and the show is corrupted by topics currently resonating in the Czech society. In a fact, these topics are usually connected with stereotypes and prejudices towards minority cultures and together with dramaturgical interventions they cause conflicts among show participants and also have impact on viewers of this show. This thesis aims to capture previously mentioned stereotypes in context of three examined topics (homosexuality, Roma ethnicity and Muslim culture), those have been significant themes in Czech society since 2015. The thesis is aiming to present a relevant view on if and eventually how are these stereotypes, prejudices and stances presented in the Prostřeno! show. Taking high viewership of this show into account, it might be assumed that the show itself is taking part on creating of stances, stereotypes or prejudices, which are present in the Czech society.
F. A. Šubert 1849 - 1915
Drexler, Otto ; Pokorná, Magdaléna (advisor) ; Beneš, Zdeněk (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the biography of one important personality at the end of the 19th century - František Adolf Šubert, who was in the post of the Director of National Theatre in Prague in years 1883-1900. The main focus of the thesis is Šubert's public life and his career, as well as on his position within Czech cultural society, in the wider context of the era of that time changing Czech society and theatrical culture perception. It deals with the question, why F. A. Šubert was a subject of criticism from the journalists already during his active career as a director, and why he has never been recognized as one of the let's say "cultural heroes" of that epoch. The base of the work lies in the spring of the year 1900 - which was the year of Šubert's abdication (together with the whole theatre management). The work deals also with Šubert's personal life, which influenced his ideas and persuasion, too. This thesis is based on the then print, pieces of specialized and memoir literature, partly also archival materials (the access to the last mentioned was due to several factors rather limited).
