Speech therapy and intervention of pupils with a diagnosis of elective mutism

The topic of the diploma thesis is speech therapy and intervention of pupils with elective mutism. The thesis is structured into four chapters. The theoretical framework is presented in three chapters, the fourth one is an empirical part of the thesis. The first theoretical chapter describes the concept of communication and the definitions of basic terms, such as speech communication, speech, language, language levels of speech, socialization and social interaction. There are also listed terminological definition of elective mutism, etiology, classification and symptomatology. The second theoretical chapter is based on the issues of speech therapy and intervention and its system in the Czech Republic in terms of diagnostics, differential diagnostics, the process of therapy, prevention and prognosis. The third chapter describes the multidisciplinary approaches and support of the pupils with elective mutism in terms of family and school education. The role of the teacher is also described and at the end of the chapter indicated the help to the pupil in basic education. Speech Therapy for Seniors in Residential Care

1 ABSTRACT The topic of this bachelor thesis is speech therapy for seniors in residential care. The thesis is divided into four chapters, which include both theory and empirical research. The theoretical part contains information about age and aging, various acquired neurologic speech and language disorders and available social services for the elderly in the Czech Republic. The practical part of the thesis is based on quantitative methodology, a questionnaire survey with the aim to determine whether speech therapy care is provided in nursing homes for seniors in the capital city of Prague as a part of comprehensive services. The analysis of many Czech and foreign resources was used in both parts of this thesis. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to compare the theoretical background with the practical implementation of speech therapy care in residential facilities for the elderly. Collective Speech and Language Therapy Prevention at a Kindergarten for Children with Communication Disorders

The theme of the bachelors ́ thesis is collective speech and language therapy prevention at a kindergarten for children with communication disorders. The aim of the thesis was to find out and describe the process of speech and language therapy prevention. The bachelors ́ thesis consists of two main parts, a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part is composed of three chapters, the fourth chapter contains the qualitative research. The first chapter of the theoretical part describes the ontogenesis of speech and language of a child from his/her birth up to the full development of speech and language and it concentrates also on the development of speech and language within the language levels. The second chapter of the theoretical part contains information about communication disorders, especially those types that are typical for preschool children. The third chapter of the theoretical part describes the organisation of speech and language therapy prevention in the Czech Republic, the Framework Educational program for Pre- school Education and it characterises briefly the school maturity. Pupil with communication disorders in preparatory class

The bachelor thesis "Pupils with Communication Disorders in Preparatory Classes" analyses the issues of preparatory classes. It develops the competences of school readiness and preparedness. The thesis summarizes the speech development as a basis for the diagnosis of communication disorders. It declares the positive effects of preparatory classes on the development of communication skills of children with postponed school entry in the region of Prague 9. The thesis proves the need to include children with communication disorders into preparatory classes. It offers the possibility to the parents of children attending preparatory classes to express their opinions on the functioning of these classes. It informs parents of preschool children in the region of Prague-East about the existence of preparatory classes and it monitors the level of parents' awareness. A mixed-method research is applied in the study. It combines a quantitative method - a questionnaire - and qualitative methods - structured dialogues and case studies. In the conclusion of the thesis practical recommendations are offered: amendment of the Education Act and the implementation of school-readiness testing at the beginning and at the end of the school year. Possibilities of logopaedic care for pre-school children in České Budějovice

Theoretical part of my thesis deals with basic terms from the logopedic treatment field, such as logopedic prevention, logopedic diagnosis and logopedic therapy and it also describes the system of logopedictreatment in the Czech Republic, including competence and qualification requirementsof the social workers providing this logopedic treatment. The practical part focuses on a survey, which uses the method of document analysis and interviews. Its aim is to identify what the alternatives of logopedic treatment for preschool children are in representative nursery schools and other institutions available in the city of České Budějovice. Its part is e.g. also the survey of the provided logopedic treatment range.

Development of i-CT Framework and Application for Communication of YES/NO Type

This master thesis deals with issues of development of applications for augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) in environment of special education for mentally challenged pupils with communication disorders. Thesis presents issues of development contemporary applications and follows on design principles of Computer therapy project, which compliance during the design and implementation should prevent the current issues. The aim of the thesis is creation of application for AAC of YES/NO type and i-CT framework - framework simplifying creation of similar apps for described environment. Both apps works on iOS and Android systems and were tested in an environment of people with mental disabilities.
