Intelligibility of Lexical Units in the Extracts From Reading-Books for Pupils of Lower Secondary Schools

This bachelor's thesis deals with the issue of comprehensibility of lexical units in examples from reading-books for lower secondary school pupils. The work is divided into a theoretical part and a practical part. The theoretical part deals with lexicology and individual concepts that relate to this linguistic discipline and the subject of research. It also includes a discussion of writing style, current research, the concept of teaching the Czech language and the relationship of RVP to teaching vocabulary. The practical research part presents and interprets data obtained from quantitative and qualitative research conducted at two schools. The research was carried out using a questionnaire survey and subsequent interviews with pupils of the 6th and 9th grades of lower secondary school. The questionnaires contained the highlighted lexemes under study in excerpted sentences selected from the reading books intended for the respective classes. The aim of the research was to find out whether the pupils understand the words listed in the questionnaire, whether they can explain them or replace them with synonyms or whether they can derive their meaning from the context of the sentence. The Vocabulary in Children at 2 to 3 Years

The diploma thesis deals with the issue of active and passive vocabulary in children aged 2-3 years. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on defining speech development in children, describing in detail the development and evaluation of vocabulary in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and abroad. Additionally, selected categories of impaired communication ability specific to this age group are described, more specifically, developmental dysphasia and delayed speech development. The main goal of the thesis is to test and evaluate the active and passive vocabulary of children at two to three years. The research is of a quantitative nature and presents the results of testing that was conducted using a newly created test of active and passive vocabulary for children at two to three years.
Expressive vocabulary of selected parts of speech in children of preschool age

Abstact This thesis relates to logopedic theme. It is focused on the issue of expressive vocabulary in preschool age. The main goal is an analysis of this area in children with specific language impairment and in intact children. In the research survey the analysis of the expressive vocabulary is carried out by using a test which was created for this intent. The test contains three subtests focused on different parts of speech. These are nouns, verbs and adjectives. With this test the evaluation of a range of expressive vocabulary and quality of expression is possible. The resulting data show that within the quality of expresion there is a greater difference between proband groups than in the range of expressive vocabulary. The thesis also describes in detail the differences in range of expressive vocabulary depending on individual parts of speech and on ways of inquiring about test entries which are different in individual parts of subtests. The research also includes the analysis of influence of a few chosen social aspects on range of expressive vocabulary and on quality of expression. In the group of intact probands the length of preschool education and number of siblings seems to be a statistically significant factor in relation to the range of expressive vocabulary. PaedDr. Jiřina Klenková, Ph.D. Abstract: The submitted thesis is focused on evaluation of lexical - semantic levels of language in children in late pre-school age, it specifically follows up their achievement in parts of receptive and expressive vocabulary. The measurement is implemented through the diagnostic test method which was compiled on the basis of foreign inspiration drawn especially from anglophone linguistic ambience. The lexicon is measured in intact population and in children with specific language impairment with the aim to compare obtained data. Developed findings should help to increase efficiency of logopedic intervention in content part of the speech. The project is based on the fact that currently there are no useful update tests available in the Czech Republic for global evaluation of lexicon. Lexicon Evaluation of Preschool Children

The diploma thesis Lexicon Evaluation of Preschool Children is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part of this work on speech therapy describes within four chapters the Czech vocabulary, psychological development of children up to the school maturity, speech development also up to the school maturity and finally presents diagnostic materials used in the Czech Republic for school maturity diagnostics and diagnostics of the lexical-semantic speech level. The practical part includes a quantitative research performed on children respondents in preschool classes in maternity schools. The main goal of this speech-therapy research was the modernization and verification of a testing set aimed at active vocabulary. The main reason was the fact that there is a lack of any adequate material for testing vocabulary in the Czech Republic. The new testing set could be also used as a subtest for school maturity diagnostics. The research conclusions were compared with the real situation of the tested children as referred by their teachers.
