"You can't command a change of thinking": system of informal education for the elderly from the public policy perspective

This diploma thesis deals with the topic of non-formal education for senior citizens in Czech Republic from the perspective of public policy. The main goal of this thesis is to capture the current state, main challenges and key topics in the field of non-formal education for senior citizens in Czech Republic. The system of non-formal education for senior citizens represents a complex structure of institutions, which offer educational programmes and activities. Both the system and the senior population are immensely diverse, which, on one hand, offers a high degree of flexibility and autonomy to both, the participants and the institutions. But on the other hand, it presents a challenge for public policy to capture the complexity of the phenomenon, whilst maintaining inclusivity. The non-formal education for senior citizens isn't defined by the legislative and the field therefore falls under three different departments: Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports; Ministry of Labour and Social Affair and Ministry of Culture. Hardiness of Senior Citizens participating in Universities of the Third Age

The population is getting older. Prognosis predict increasing numbers of people in the age group 65+ in the future. Therefore, it is necessary to think about involving senior citizens in social development and supporting their self-sufficiency up to a higher age. Education is one of the ways to achieve that. The focus of this thesis is on education within the Universities of the Third Age, which it studies from a new point of view. Hardiness is seen as part of personal characteristics which helps the individual cope with stressful situations. Research in this thesis is trying to find out if the senior citizens attending the Universities of the Third Age have a higher scores on hardiness then those who do not attend, and also whether they have a more positive outlook on their health and meaning of their lives. The thesis also studies whether the scores on hardiness depends on gender, formal education level and whether it is connected to perceived social support. The results show that there is no difference in the scores on hardiness resulting from gender. Senior citizens attending the Universities of the Third Age have a more positive outlook on their health and they also perceive their lives as more meaningful. History, present and perspectives of the Universtities of the Third Age in the Czech republic

The bachelor thesis is focused on senior's education that is put into wider psychosocial and economic framework. My thesis characterizes ageing, old age and seniors. Ageing of population is evidenced by demographic dates. It describes negative social phenomenons, especially "ageismus" and an endeavour of society to restrict these negative social phenomenons e.g. prosenior education. The thesis mentions economic impacts of ageing upon society. It contents some documents, both national and international, for endorsment of seniors. These documents declare social, medical and economic importance of care of senior's group. These documents place emphasis on active old age that ensure better quality of life in old age. The education is one of the possibilities. The senior's education is attached enormous meaning. There is originated new pedagogic discipline, which deal with specifics of senior's education, gerontopedagogy. Senior's education is part of lifelong learning and it has mostly special-interest character. The highest degree of education offers the Universities of the Third Age. E-learning support for teaching seniors

The purpose of this bachelor thesis is creating an electronic course (tutorial) for The University of the Third Age on University of Economics in Prague. The thesis is metaphorically joining topics like information and communication technology and education in it's own theme. Before creating the tutorial, it is necessary to explain the term e-learning. Therefore the thesis is divided into two parts: theoretical and practical. The main contribution of this thesis is creating a specific electronic course for students of The University of the Third Age using up-to-date programs, uploading the course on the Internet (specifically YouTube server), course presenting to the students and explanation of the term e-learning itself in the context of modern times at e-learning.
