This bachelor's thesis focuses on the use of material didactic tools in teaching chemistry at lower-secondary schools in the Czech Republic. The research primarily concentrated on instructional tools and didactic technology due to their closer relation to the content, methods, and forms of teaching. Special emphasis was placed on the use of textbooks and their structural components. The goal of the bachelor's thesis was to identify which material didactic tools are present in the lessons, as well as their duration and mode of use in teaching. Specifically regarding textbooks, the thesis aimed to map out which structural components of textbooks are utilized in chemistry lessons and with which topics. Therefore, in the theoretical part, the thesis addresses the characteristics of these selected tools, followed by an examination of their significance in teaching. The research method employed was systematic observation of chemistry lessons in lower-secondary schools across the Czech Republic. The analysis of the collected data revealed that blackboards, worksheets, printed materials, and various ICT tools were most frequently used in chemistry lessons. Textbooks were used in 21 % of the observed lessons. The data also indicated that the type of tool used was influenced by the topic being discussed. The...
Analysis of the Core Learning Content of the Human Biology Topic in the Lower-secondary Textbooks
Dvořáková, Barbora ; Vojíř, Karel (advisor) ; Ehler, Edvard (referee)
This master's thesis focused on the analysis of core curriculum content in the field of human biology as presented in textbooks designed for the 8th grade of primary schools and corresponding years of multi-year gymnasia. Its main objective was to conduct empirical analysis of the content of textbooks from various Czech publishers to identify the core curriculum or its key concepts presented in these textbooks. A microanalysis of textbook content and an analysis of core concepts presented by textbooks from individual Czech publishers were conducted. The analysis of the core curriculum was conducted based on the identification of important technical terms in the textbook text, removal of duplicates within individual textbook texts, further unification of terms based on their summarizing concepts, and finally, the identification of technical terms that appeared in more than half of the presented textbooks. The results indicated that out of the total number of key terms contained in current Czech textbooks on natural science, only 426 terms, representing less than 17 %, were identified as core curriculum content. KEYWORDS: textbooks, biology, human biology, key terms, core curriculum, analysis

The diploma thesis focuses on the problem with invasive species of trees in teaching at the 2nd grade of primary schools. The main goal of this work is the research of natural at the second level of elementary schools with an emphasis on invasive tree species. As another goal, the author set himself to find out, using a suitably prepared pretest, the entry level of knowledge before the actual teaching of this topic. After completing the course, verify the acquired knowledge and compare it with the initial knowledge using the same posttest. Another goal of the work is to acquaint students, through appropriately chosen teaching methods and forms, with the topic of invasive trees that grow near their place of living. The student will become familiar with the basic features, invasive behavior, mapping and subsequent disposal of the selected invasive tree species. In this work, the questioning method is used, where the students, through pretests and posttests, answer questions that reflect the information contained in some textbooks of biology for the 2nd grade of elementary schools. The results in the research part were processed into tables and the data recorded in them were processed graphically for clarity. The results of this work indicate that the topic of invasive woody species occurs only...

Analysis of Visual Components in Lower-secondary Biology Textbooks in the Topic Vertebrate Zoology
Šindelářová, Barbora ; Vojíř, Karel (advisor) ; Říhová, Dagmar (referee)
This thesis deals with visual components in science textbooks for primary schools, focusing on the topic of vertebrate zoology. The aim of the thesis was to conduct a quantitative analysis of the components in primary school science textbooks with the approval of the Ministry of Education and to determine the extent to which different combinations of visual elements occur. Individual parameters of visual components such as type, form, function, angle or distance of the elements were analysed. The quantitative analysis method allowed for a systematic evaluation of the components in the textbooks evaluated. The results showed that most of the images in these science textbooks are the same and there is often significant uniformity. This suggests that visual components are underutilized to support learning. Thus, the findings could serve as a starting point or support material for improving the visual design of science textbooks not only for primary but also for secondary schools.
