Slovak population of Prague
Martinák, Matej ; Ouředníček, Martin (advisor) ; Svoboda, Peter (referee)
Despite its large size and historically specific position, the Slovak population of Prague and Czechia remains relatively understudied. The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to review the history and the present of Slovaks in Prague in terms of their number and statistical records, demographic and social structure, and distribution within the city. By analyzing current and historical statistical data, an overview of the evolution of Slovak migration to Prague and of the number of Slovaks in Prague has been conducted and problems regarding data records have been clarified. Based on detailed data from the Czech statistical office an overview of the demographic and social structure of Slovaks in Prague and comparison with some relevant populations was carried out. The level of concentration was analyzed by cartographic outputs. By its broad conception of the topic, the bachelor thesis broadens the existing knowledge about one of the largest ethnic groups in the capital of Czechia. Keywords: Slovaks; Prague; urban processes; migration; social structure; spatial distribution
The Role of Coin Production and its Acceptance in Shaping the Power Structure of Early Medieval Czech Society
Kratochvíl, Jan ; Štemberk, Jan (advisor) ; Charvát, Petr (referee) ; Květina, Petr (referee)
The Ph.D. theses Role of Coin Production and Acceptance in Shaping the Power Structure of Early Bohemian medieval society discusses the earliest historical payment instruments, which appearance is assumed to have occurred in Bohemia in the 10th century. It looks at them, however, through a non-economic prism, the establishment of which is preceded by a critique of existing interpretations. The subject of the research are Slavic payment clothes and the oldest denarii minted in the Bohemian Duchy. The thesis formulates a new hypothesis about the way in which Slavic clothes could have fulfilled certain functions that we nowadays identify with payment. This hypothesis is based on the assumption of a different organization of economic relations in early medieval society. On the basis of this assumed organisation of social relations, a social crisis is subsequently reconstructed, the reflection of which is identified in the St Wenceslas legends, for which a new source of inspiration, Livy's Ab urbe condita libri, is also revealed. The hypothesis about the functioning of Slavic payment clothes is thus subsequently linked with the sources into a broader interpretative whole. The coins are viewed in this work in a chartalist and practical metallist manner, in opposition to the theoretical metallist approach....
Evolution of dowry
Pokorný, Daniel ; Kuběna, Aleš (advisor) ; Houdek, Petr (referee)
The topic of marriage markets is solved mainly by economics scientists so far (Tertilt 2002, 2005, Botticini and Siow 2003). Much less attention about this issue is paid by biologists. It is still unclear how variant types of marriage transactios influence the shape of societies. However, the importace is not negligible. Uderstanding of these questions may help us at least partly answer to some of the problems current societies face to. keywords: dowry, brideprice, marriage transactions, social structure

Maierová, Martina ; Bittnerová, Dana (advisor) ; Levínská, Markéta (referee)
The purpose of my thesis is to present possible influence of trendy things to prestige, in the ninth grade of city primary school. The goal of this thesis is to identify the social structure of the students' group, to map the value orientation of the students, to identify their trendy things, and to connect all these findings. The thesis tries to answer the question of the influence of trendy things to the prestige in this students' group, and find out whether in this group of students exists the materialization of prestige. The text is divided into two parts. The theoretical part focuses on pointing out the main aspects of the topic of trendy things, adolescence, materialism and prestige. These topics are analysed in the context of psychology and partly sociology, antropology and education as well. Empirical part, in addition to the description of objectives, methods, research sample and environment, pays particular attention to analysis of its own data of quality-oriented research with the support of several quantitative methods. First, it describes the social hierarchy of students in terms of their degree of influence, popularity and prestige, and identifies their sub-groups. Next I try to find out the prevailing students' value orientation. Then I subscribe the possible negotiation strategies...
Changes in the social arrangement of the lowland gorillas in Prague ZOO after incorporation of a new fertile female
Vítková, Eliška ; Vančata, Václav (advisor) ; Vančatová, Marina (referee)
In my several months of research I have been engaged in studying the distribution of affiliated and agonistic behaviour in a group and primarily towards a new female, over the course of ranking the new female into the group and changes in the social arrangement of the western lowland gorillas in Prague Zoo. For the research standardised observational methods were used, ad libitum sampling, focal animal sampling and scan sampling and statistical analysis on data was carried out with the aid of ethological software (Noldus- MatMan 1.0). Hypotheses stated that the agonistic contact towards Bikire would be initiated by females and above all from the female Shinda, also affiliated contact for Bikire would be initiated by the young and under aged, that the frequency of agonistic contact towards Bikire will gradually decline, that the other adults in the group are dominant to Bikire, that will result in lower affiliated contact and that the social structure will change in the group. From the results of the research it is confirmed, that agonistic contact towards the new female was initiated exclusively by females and in particular the female Shinda. Further it was confirmed, the initiators of the affiliated contact towards Bikire are the young and under aged female member Moja. It was revealed the other...
The Influence of Suburbanization on the Demographic and Social Structure and Social Climate in Suburbs of Mladá Boleslav
Hrušková, Nela ; Špačková, Petra (advisor) ; Kopečná, Martina (referee)
The main aim of the bachelor thesis is to describe the social structure of the population and social climate in suburbs Mlada Boleslav. In relation to immigration around the city there are changes of population size and population structure of municipalities, which is related to an increase in the differences among local residents. This is due to differentiation in terms of social status, traditions, behaviour and age. In this work are evaluated primarily the impacts of these differences on the relationship between the local population and people who moved recently. The paper is trying to figure out the level of involvement of newcomers in the running community and define problems and types of cooperation among these groups. I assume that it will be some variations between municipalities, but generally it will have similar problems and positives which were found in studies in suburbs of Prague. I also discuss whether, or how, is the process influenced by Škoda Auto, which is located in Mlada Boleslav. Keywords: suburbanization, social structure, social climate
Social problems of city Most from perspective of its young population
Pícha, Tomáš ; Tuček, Milan (advisor) ; Kuchař, Pavel (referee)
This Thesis deals with the social problems of city Most and how they are perceived and evaluated by its young population. Under influence of historical events the city has a very specific composition of the population and it has long been faced with many problems that are inherently social, economic, environmental and other. The Thesis presents the view of pupils and students of Most's schools on these problems and it analyzes which problems students consider as urgency, how they evaluate the living conditions in Most and what is their relationship to the city. The Thesis is supported by own SAQ survey conducted on a sample of approximately 600 students from different types of schools that provides answers to most of the research questions. Given that the Romany question intensively rezonates between young denizens of Most, the survey has been extended to gypsies living in one of Most's Romany localities - well-known settlement Chanov. This enabled the comparison of respondents' opinions (mostly from the rank of the majority) with views of young gypsies. Thus the overall output is consisted of a description of the current situation of the city and its problems, perception of these problems by its young population (majority in comparison with relatively numerous minority of gypsies) and outline of...
Classical concepts of stratification and their comparison with the situation in contemporary society. Subjective and objective position in the social structure
Rádl, Michael ; Šafr, Jiří (advisor) ; Jirkovská, Blanka (referee)
The central theme of the thesis is the current conceptualization of social classes and the issue of stratification in the Czech Republic in the period after 1989. In the first part I confront key theses of classical stratification concepts and follow their transformations in the history of exploration of the social structure. In the second part, by secondary analysis of quantitative data, I am trying to find the key factors of self- classification into social structures and to determine how this subjective self- classification correlates with objective (sociological) classification. An important part of the research is also the question of to what extent and in what sense people perceive the contemporary Czech society as a social-stratified. In the conclusion, on the basis of the results of analysis, I am trying to suggest which of the classical concepts of stratification best reflects the situation in contemporary Czech society. Key words: subjective and objective position, stratification, class, stratum, status, society, social structure

Plevová, Anna ; Sláma, Jiří (advisor) ; Štefan, Ivo (referee)
(in English): This thesis analyses and evaluates three Early Medieval burial sites in Bohemia: the site in Lumbe Garden, in Stará Kouřim and known graves from the burial sites Kanín II and III in view of definition of elite graves and social structure. Each burial site is analysed demographically and possession classification of male graves is made. Elite graves are the most remarkable group. They differ by the grave goods and usually also by the arrangement of the burial pit. Exceptional graves and burial sites are compared and contrasted mutually and with other remarkable graves from Bohemia. The site Saint-Estève le Pont in France is presented as an example of burial site with evident placement of members of one population in different sites according to their social status.
