Financial the Administration of Sicily as a Roman Province
Hejda, Josef ; Skřejpek, Michal (advisor) ; Falada, David (referee)
This work aims to introduce readers to the Roman administrative and financial law. These laws are closely related to the development of Roman law as such and with its transformation from a small city-state to the land state and finally to a large empire with vast territories on three continents. During this evolution can be observed increasing demands on the state administration and various approaches to the territorial organization of the empire. On the one hand Italian territory was initially given priority as the Roman homeland, on the other hand were provincial units, which alone have been forced by Rome to pay taxes. In the period of dominate these differences were removed without significant exceptions. Sicily was standing at the birth of the provincial administration. Here arose the first forms of provincial rights and also appeared first practical problems of its active application. This remarkable island was a place where Rome learned to control other nations, province which funded the development of the late Republic of Rome, and a platform which helped to control the Mediterranean.

Some of these instruments have developed during the ancient times into different shapes - these versions are described in this thesis on the background of iconography and bibliography. In the end of every single chapter there is a selection of the most important preserved samples of the musical instruments or their fragments. These samples, although they often are in poor condition, are clear evidence about the nature of ancient music. Keywords: ancient music, wind instruments, Greece, Rome, Etruscans, aulos, tibia, syrinx, salpinx, tuba, cornu, bucina
Roman imports in South Asia
Holeček, Jiří ; Stančo, Ladislav (advisor) ; Bouzek, Jan (referee)
- Jiri Holecek - Roman imports in South Asia Diploma thesis sums up the development of the maritime trade between the Mediterranean, especially Rome, and South Asia, especially India, in the time period between the first century BC and the fourth century CE. Furthermore, the works of ancient historians are used to obtain more precise context in the terms of geography and economy. Thesis will compare the development of the maritime trade and the trade using the overland routes, especially so-called Silk Road. In conclussion, the thesis summarizes relevant proofs, and with their help defines the extent of the influence of the Mediterranean in South Asia and compare it with the influence of the overland routes, and finally describes the reasons of this economical development.

Seismic Site Effects (Data Analysis and Modelling)
Caserta, Arrigo ; Zahradník, Jiří (advisor) ; Růžek, Bohuslav (referee) ; Burjánek, Jan (referee)
A comprehensive study of the soil shaking under the seismic wave-field ex- citation is presented. It includes theoretical, geological, geotechnical, data analysis and numerical simulations aspects. The aim is to quantify the main parameters allowing the estimate of the soil shaking in urban areas for better mitigating seismic risk due to future earthquakes. The city of Rome has been chosen as a case study because of its high density of popula- tion and large concentration of historical monuments with high earthquake vulnerability. This study improves significantly the knowledge concerning the detailed near-surface geology of the chosen study area of Rome, ful- fills the absence both of knowledge concerning its geotechnical properties and earthquake data recordings in the city. Among others, it allows for a better explanation of the spatial damage pattern observed in the city due to earthquakes in the past. The main innovations include the construction and long-term operation a seismic array in the city, analysis of the natural seismic noise, and instrumental recordings of the 2009 L'Aquila earthquake sequence. The 3D array (including a borehole sensor at 70-m depth) is the first one in Italy planned, realized and operated within an urban area, and the first one that recorded a significant earthquake in...
Ancient History in comics
Dragounová, Veronika ; Kepartová, Jana (advisor) ; Zdichynec, Jan (referee)
The subject of this thesis is comic books which are in themes and subject matter devoted to the history of ancient Greece and Rome. Attention is paid to comic books which were published from the beginning of the genre up to the present day, with the intention to document the largest spectrum of content and various conceptions of illustration. The goal is to analyse these publications both from the perspective of structure and, most importantly, from the viewpoint of factual correctness. The thesis pays attention to the concept of a story and to the author's intention to educate the reader; but taking into consideration that these books are fictional with the main purpose to entertain the reader. This aim is closely connected to another substantial objective of the thesis, which is to evaluate the benefit of these publications for children's literature and to consider the adequancy, whether the amount of factual knowledge is suitable for the intended child or juvenile reader. The potential use and application in the teaching of ancient history within the framework of school history teachers or other educational programs is also taken into consideration.
