Meat or Salad? Effect of Dynamic Norms on Preference for Meatless Meals
Weikertová, Štěpánka ; Urban, Jan (advisor) ; Soukup, Petr (referee)
The food choices we make every day have a great impact on our environment. Particularly meat consumption significantly contributes to global climate change. Although the current situation calls for a change towards more sustainable diet, meat consumption is still rising. Previous research show that dynamic social norms, i.e. information about ongoing collective behavioral change, can promote pro- environmental behavior, even in the context of meat consumption. Through two pre- registered online experimental studies conducted on a sample of university students (Study 1, N = 227) and on a sample of adult Czech population (Study 2, N = 462), this thesis examines whether dynamic norm message regarding the changing trends in meat consumption can influence intentions to consume less meat. We did not find any direct or total effect of dynamic norms on the preference for meatless meals. Mediation analysis only revealed rather weak indirect effect of dynamic norms on the preference for meatless meals mediated by perceived dynamic norms. In Study 2, we further examined whether the effect of dynamic norm message is conditioned by strength of the dynamic norms (effect of stronger vs weaker dynamic norm) and whether the provision of dynamic norm information triggers self-defense mechanisms which rationalize...
An Examination of Household Energy Conservation Behavior in the Framework of Theory of Planned Behavior and Norm Activation Model: Prague Case
Boyaci, Çagatay ; Soukup, Petr (advisor) ; Remr, Jiří (referee)
This M.A. thesis aims at investigating the socio-psychological motivations and demographic factors related to how individuals perform energy conservation behavior in the household domain. For this reason, two approaches to this sociological issue, the Theory of Planned Behavior and Norm Activation Model, were comprehensively examined to be adequately combined into one experimental model that would determine and help to explain the motivations on the energy conservation behaviors in households. In total, 303 respondents were surveyed who have a residency in Prague by sharing an online-based questionnaire in various Facebook groups between April 28, 2021, and July 3, 2021. In order to test the created hypotheses according to the developed model of the research study, structural equation modeling and ANOVA analysis were employed. As a result, the findings show that combining the Theory of Planned Behavior and the Norm Activation Model gives promising results in explaining the socio-psychological motivations of household energy conservation behaviors. The author of the thesis concludes that social norms have a positive influence on personal norms, and further the personal norms have a positive impact on intentions, and therefore the intentions directly impact the household energy conservation behavior....

Environmental Education in the Czech Republic with Reference to Scouting Experience
Musilová, Markéta ; Zvěřinová, Iva (advisor) ; Duffková, Jana (referee)
The aim of this paper is to highlight the concept of environmental education as a strategy to support pro-environmental behaviour. Paper connects environmental education with Scouting and suggests their possible closer cooperation. It tries to support this connection by mapping work scoutmasters with nature. The research was carried out using qualitative method of "Understanding interview". The interviews were conducted with scoutmasters of girls and boys troops. Thanks to different variables of the observed units, such as the practices in the country or in a major city, it shows a number of different circumstances. Research suggests a different work with nature in urban and rural sections and also some gender differences. Interviews and observation also revealed some findings related to contemporary changes like working with technology, higher demands on education of children and also worries of parents. Besides analysing the differences, is the research deals also with reflection of scoutmasters on the topic of pro-environmental behaviour within scout centres and troops. These all findings may serve as a feedback for the environmental department of Scouting and for those who would try to support environmental education in "Junák".
How the Members of Parliament Are Getting Green? Factors Influencing Environmental Policy.
Skalík, Jan ; Vinopal, Jiří (advisor) ; Buriánek, Jiří (referee)
HOW THE MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT ARE GETTING GREEN? Factors Influencing Environmental Policy. Jan Skalík Abstract In the new millennium the Chamber of Deputies has been significantly less supportive towards environmental protection than it was in the 1990s. It has been proved by the analysis of 156 votes concerning the environment in the period 1994 - 2010. Unequivocally, the strongest and the most influential factor in terms of the impact on the other characteristics and the environmental benefits is to which Parliamentary Club the deputy belongs. From the comparison of voting patterns of the Green Party (SZ) and Civic Democratic Party (ODS) it is possible to demonstrate why the environmental legislation is supported mostly by women and MPs from Moravian districts. Generally it could be said that growing political success in the parliamentary right-wing parties is linked to less favourable voting for the environment. However, among centrist and left wing parties this is different: proenvironmental voting is connected to success in the Chamber. MPs who vote pro- environmentally are often older and were elected to the Chamber earlier. While a degree in engineering correlates with an unenthusiastic relationship to the environment, a degree in the humanities is often related to its protection. If an MP is...
