The main goal of this thesis is to discover what paths lead young people to political participation, what political activities the respondents took part in, how they perceive the influence of influencers on political participation and how they experience the current political climate in the Czech Republic. In the theoretical part, I focus on the definition of political participation and its types, factors influencing political participation, findings regarding the political participation of young people and existing knowledge regarding the influence of influencers on political participation. Pandemic: about war, oppression and other metaphors
Tikal, Matěj ; Dvořák, Tomáš (advisor) ; Hájek, Martin (referee)
This thesis is based on analysis of metaphors, that were used by Czech political elite to construct meaning of Covid-19 pandemic and its implications for Czech society. Pandemic is firstly described as political problem and selected literature is used to describe pandemic discourse. Next, notion of social constructivism and conceptual theory of metaphors are introduced. Political rhetoric is conceived as conflictual and in common relation with public debate. Based on critical metaphorical analysis, this thesis revealed conflict between value of safety and freedom that was reflected in metaphors of war and oppression. This contest of metaphors can be used to interpret and explain some of the phenomena Czech society witnessed during Covid- 19 pandemic. This thesis shows that metaphors are valuable instrument for analysis of problems, that defy the possibility of being observed by instruments of everyday knowledge. This is why metaphor analysis can be deemed as useful tool for research of upcoming crises, which might emit similar level of abstraction, as Covid-19 pandemic.

Šimková, Jana ; Rektorová, Lucie (advisor) ; Lütke Notarp, Ulrike (referee)
The aim of this diploma thesis was to find out, what role gender played in the media coverage of Danuše Nerudová's campaign for the presidential election in 2023. In the theoretical part, the concept of gender is explained as well as its connection to politics and how gendered language influences the political environment. Attention is paid to gender stereotypes, the historical development of women's representation in politics, and to specific obstacles that prevent women from being as active in public life as men. Specific impacts of stereotypes are shown through the examples of two well-known foreign female politicians, Hillary Clinton and Zuzana Čaputová. The context of the Czech presidential election in 2023, the campaign of Danuše Nerudová and the ways in which she herself has related to the issues of feminism and gender are then described. The methodological part presents the chosen research methods, qualitative and quantitative content analysis, and the media examined: Aktuálně, Deník Referendum, iDnes, iRozhlas, Echo24, Heroine, HN, Novinky, Reflex, and Seznam Zprávy. The Influence of Corporatism on State Security in (South)East Asian States
Mališ, Jan ; Karmazin, Aleš (advisor) ; Karásek, Tomáš (referee)
In the world of politics, and anything that surrounds it, any kind of outcome gets decided, in huge part, by the influences it went through, it absorbed and which it stood in opposition to. One of the most cited and talked about influence-paths are those of the economy of a state and how it influences other parts of the state. One aspect of such a phenomenon we can look at can be how the economic sectors are set up in the state - more specifically, how the corporate framework of a state looks, and how this economic part of the state influences the state's security policy, in particular its grand strategic policy. For the analysis of this occurrence, we have chosen 4 countries in Southeast and East Asia, more specifically those that display a single ruling, dominant party for most of its modern history - Singapore, Japan, The PRC (China), and Vietnam. Each nation offers different unique peculiarities, that make each analytical chapter differ in many instances, which then get distilled into a final chapter, with a spectrum for each corporate framework. Japan and China land on opposite ends of the spectrum with Japan showing the most societal corporate system, and China the most statist-authoritarian one. Both Singapore and Vietnam share a "mixture" of these two extremes. Following upon this...
The trial of Milada Horáková and Co. and its influence on the Czechoslovak media in 1950
Sladká, Julie ; Groman, Martin (advisor) ; Cebe, Jan (referee)
The bachelor's thesis examines the trial of Milada Horáková and associates and its impact on Czechoslovak media in 1950. It explores the political background preceding the trial, the fate of Milada Horáková, and the media environment of the time. The practical part includes research from both contemporary and historical media. Specifically, it utilizes qualitative content analysis of Rudé právo and Nová svoboda from mid-May to mid-June. The goal was to identify main themes, narratives, and propagandistic elements in the headlines, subheadlines, and subtexts of both newspapers. The research revealed how the figures of the trial were presented and how the media approaches of the two newspapers differed. The findings provide deeper insights into media manipulation under the totalitarian regime and the methods used. Additionally, the practical part includes an analysis of Martin Vadas's documentary series "Process H" and an examination of mentions of the series in Czech online media. The result is a summary of the documentary series, detailing the types of approaches and perspectives it utilizes, and providing a broader context of how the trial was staged and the propaganda techniques employed by the media. The intention of both studies is to contribute comprehensive knowledge about how the...

Media Coverage of the Major Candidates in the 2024 US Republican Primary Election
Jakšič, Marek ; Just, Petr (advisor) ; Osvaldová, Barbora (referee)
The Media Portrayal of the Main Candidates in the 2024 US Republican Primary Election is a thesis that focuses on a detailed analysis of articles reporting on the candidates for the Republican nomination for the November US presidential election. Articles discussing the Republican Party candidates are examined during the analysis period from November 14, 2023, to January 14, 2024. Due to their high number, only the top five favourites in the primaries were included in the analysis. These candidates are Donald Trump, Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley, Vivek Ramaswamy, and Chris Christie. Three media outlets, or rather their news sites, were included in the analysis. The first is CNN.com, which represents the left-leaning media. The second chosen server is WSJ.com, which by contrast represents the center-oriented media, while the right-oriented media is represented by FOXNews.com. Although only three media outlets were deliberately included in the analysis, each of them occupies a different place on the right-wing political scale. Therefore, it can be assumed that the coverage of each candidate will differ at least slightly. The last condition that the articles had to meet in order to be included in the research was that the texts had to be related to the chosen topics. These nine topics were inflation,...
