The economic development and international trade of North Korea using the factor analysis method
Kim, Ha Eun ; Chytilová, Julie (advisor) ; Cahlík, Tomáš (referee)
In this paper, after reviewing the characteristics of North Korean statistics, I examined how North Korea's trade affects its growth using empirical analyses. There have been many studies that have shown trade has affected economic growth, but there have been few empirical studies on North Korea's case. Cointegration test, regression analysis, and factor analysis were used. The empirical results suggest that even considering economic fluctuations, North Korea's trade has not shown a significant impact on growth. The development of nuclear weapons and their proliferation: A comparison of Iran and North Korea Master Thesis Author: Martin Marek Supervisor: PhDr. Vít Střítecký, M.Phil., Ph.D. Year: 2016 Abstract The text deals with nuclear proliferation in the cases of Iran and North Korea. The motives of nuclear ambitions are examined using models of Scott D. Sagan and other selected theoretical concepts. Gradual analysis of exposed states in the perspective of historical development, national security, domestic politics and norms forms the basis for understanding the perception of nuclear weapons by these states and approach to them as to a mean to accomplish certain objectives. Subsequent comparison reveals both similarities and difference between examined states in the perspective of motives of nuclear proliferation and shows explanatory potential of each model, which is various, in given cases. The effort of ensuring national security seems to be the strongest motive in both examined cases. It is followed by domestic influences, whereas norms stand rather for additional factor. Nevertheless, variety in explanatory power of the models is apparent in the cases of Iran and North Korea, notably in relation with their limitations. Other factors, such as regime type or parallel development of other type of weapons of...

Rogue State Concept and the US Foreign Policy towards Iran and North Korea
Černá, Veronika ; Střítecký, Vít (advisor) ; Ditrych, Ondřej (referee)
Master thesis deals with the concept of "rogue states" and strategies of the United States that are used towards rogue states. Concretely, attention is focused on two such labeled countries - Iran and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Strategies used by the United States are further observed during the presidencies of George W. Bush and Barack Obama and with regard to two typical characteristics of rogue states - effort to acquire weapons of mass destruction and the support of terrorism. Despite expectations, it appears that strategies used by the United States differ significantly and they are often influenced by historical experiences and strategic interests. Bush's and Obama's foreign policies were significantly different on the rhetorical level. However, as shown in the thesis there can be found certain continuities between the strategies towards rogue states.
The EU foreign policy toward the North Korea: its effects and limitation
Jang, Seong Jung ; Rovná, Lenka (advisor) ; Biriczová, Hana (referee)
Jang, Seong Jung EU has been engaged in North Korean affairs since it started humanitarian aid in 1990s. EU has developed institutional grounds for the diplomatic relation and it has implemented foreign policy towards North Korea in the context of Asia strategy. Its approach to North Korea is connected with Neo-liberal thinking. It stressed the international cooperation to resolve the nuclear problem, and utilized political dialogues and international institution to improve the poor human rights in North Korea. It also continued humanitarian aid irrespective of security problem, and offered economic cooperation programs for the economic development of North Korea. However, EU is not in the strong position to affect the security issue in the Korean peninsula due to various causes such as the geopolitical distance. Moreover, EU's economic cooperation programs are often frustrated by the political constraints. Rather, it puts the energy in keeping the position by playing a leading role in the improvement of human rights and continuing humanitarian aid. This policy trend will be continued in the near future. Though there are limited capacity, EU has strengths in part to contribute to the settlement of the North Korean issues with a few reasons. First, EU gains a favorable position to access to North...
International trade of uranium and its impact on world politics
Štětkář, Matěj ; Černá, Iveta (advisor) ; Bolotov, Ilya (referee)
I have written my bachelors thesis on International trade of uranium and its impact on world politics. The main goal is to analyze the evolution of international trade of uranium together with its impact on world events. Statistical and non-statistical data I have mainly taken from the official website of World Nuclear Organization and from statistical outlines made by OECD and IAEA. Based on the research, I have analyzed the Supply and Demand on the international market of uranium together with stating the main areas of extraction. Uranium is due to its importance in the energy and military industry very important strategic raw material that had great significance in the field of international relations in the past. The international trade of uranium is naturally connected with regulatory restrictions that are enforced by international nuclear organizations. The view of this work is the analysis of the impact of uranium on the world events in the last 50 years together with the prediction of the evolution of the international trade of uranium into the future. Although uranium is becoming more and more important source of energy in the future, it is still a subject of many controversial discussions.

Elimination of consequences of famine in North Korea
Horák, Petr ; Zemanová, Štěpánka (advisor) ; Volenec, Otakar (referee)
Elimination of consequences of humanitarian crisis is generally a complicated process. Especially, in countries whose goverments are not able to secure convenient conditions for humanitarian workers' activities. This is also the case of North Korea, which was struck by famine in 90's. Although, the country is still suffering from structural problems and has been accepting humanitarian aid on a long time basis, the attitude of the government towards any cooperation with international organizations is complicated. Inspite of the fact that there has been a significant progress and improvement in agriculture, DPRK still remains vulnerable to swinging production. This is caused by abrupt weather changes. The thesis summarizes the causes of the crisis and evaluates up to now results of DPRK on its way to reach food security.
